If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Very creative review-- In regard to the suspension you can't have it both ways. A lot of people on this site were spoiled with their LS 400's etc. that had smooth rides. BUT when you drive a "sport" luxury car like the Genesis you do not want a smooth ride over bumps because that means you don't have good ground contact through your linkage system. A half inch CG change can make all the difference in the World. Ground contact keeps you in control of your vehicle for quick turning, manuevering, what have you. I also own a SC 430 and am afraid to take it fast into turns because of the luxury suspension. Yes it is relatively smooth over bumps but I don't feel in control which is dangerous. If you want to float over bumps get another car and for those that have harsh rides-- get educated! You can't have it both ways. That "harsh" ride may save your life some day--

Added note: I also test drove the 09 and 10 over bumpy roads and found no difference in suspension. The best suspension I test drove was the BMW 5 series. Positive, in control and took bumps like butter. Was it worth an extra 15-20K for riding over bumps? No. Besides, there is a BMW and Lexus on every street corner where I live. They're too common--

If you can't be bothered to educate yourself about the true nature of the suspension complaint why even bother posting this regurgitated nonesense...?

Lucky me - I was able to get spoiled by my 2002 VW Passat, instead of paying for a Lexus or BMW. If you "can't have it both ways", I wonder how that BMW 5 managed to both ride and handle so well at the same time?

You obviously didn't read or understand my post. You can get most anything in the World you want for money... but how much do you really want to spend?

Are you familiar with the phrase, practice what you preach? Why are you really here Doug?

Oh please. As someone who used to own a 2002 Passat, I have to laugh. Those cars go through control arms like crazy. On top of that, the suspension on mine would squeak loudly over bumps whenever the temp got below 40 degrees. These are widespread issues reported by many owners. And the ride quality wasn't that great either.

The Suspension Complaint is simply that: The, 2009 V6 has a problem with mainly the rear suspension being excessively rigid when subjected to a series (more than 1 ) sharp bump. The effect is indicative of a vehicle with excessively high load rate coil springs and a bi-valved shocks that closes the large orifice incorrectly. (in otherwords the combination is not well match for that situation) This is also indicative of reduction of ground contact load in the read producing a jittery or skittish feeling.

The solution is simply: Replacement of the existing coil springs with lower rate coils having a initial free length longer than the current springs selected so that the resting height of the two suspensions (old and new) are the same but the spring rate loading is on a lesser ramp. Such springs coupled with new shocks that lock to the low flow position do so at higher flow rate or are just changed out with a simple mono shock. This can now be accomplished by the owner by ordering the appropriate components and having them installed.

Alternately positioning of added weight in the trunk would increase the load on the rear coils increasing the deflection to balance the increased force, ie. (increasing the stroke of the shocks). Lead sheet laid under the carpeting and spare tire in the weight range of 250 pounds would accomplish the job reasonably well and leave trunk space largely unaffected, The sheeting should, at the very least be contact cemented in place and the headlight leveling position should be adjusted, Also it should be noted that the increased load will place more load on the tires and the rest of the suspension as well as other components, possibly effecting the handling of the vehicle, during both normal and emergency situations as well as durability, It should be duly noted that this procedure is not advised by me but outlined only for illustrative purposes and in fact adding any weight in the rear of any type or configuration is warned against.

Anyone performing ANY of these acts obviously does so under their own guidance and self decision and agree that THEY assume ALL liability for ANY problem arising from the installation and or modification.

Not worried about you Doug, but beginning to wonder if Waters works for Hyundai?

Yup. You got me. I'm just a Hyundai employee/salesman. In fact, I don't even own a Genesis, I'm just here to praise the Genesis and Hyundai.

I now have 4,500 miles on my 4.6 Genesis. The ride has improved considerably since the first 100 miles on the OD. It feels almost as if the stiffness has softened with the extra miles, I suspect that the shocks have settled into a better place providing a much improved ride. It now has what I feel is still a taunt ride but not nearly as harsh as it was when it was brand new. I for one am very pleased with the ride now.

The money is already in the very nicely designed multi-link suspension of the Genesis sedan. That is why it is so sad that the tuning is all wrong. For no more money you could have a vehicle that drives like a BMW, if Hyundai had just done a better job tuning the spring and shock rates.

Could be! I question his motives as well as those of everyone who is so intent on denying the experience some have had.

Can anyone confirm if both the 2010 V6 and V8 rear suspensions were modified? Or was it just the V6? I've read that it was only the V6 that was improved. Any truth to this?

Both suspensions were improved with the same upgrades from early 09 to the present. This includes front springs and struts, rear shocks and springs and two revisions of the rear sway bar.

Maybe it hasn't changed, but you've become accustomed to it? Have you ever heard of a car's ride quality changing after purchase? Especially after only 100 miles?

Its common for people to notice change when its sudden - say going from one car to another, and noting the differences. One needs to be careful about making judgements and comparing two cars like this because they are not necessarily equal. I don't know what car you came from before the Genesis, but perhaps the Genesis was firmer than your previous car, but now that you've grown accustomed to it, you've found that its not bad afterall, just different then what you knew in the past.
