I'm sure the 2 Canadian guys at StraightPipes who offered this review were well-meaning; however they appear to have relied on information from the Korean configurator site, rather than the U.S. configurator, with a lot of misleading or inapplicable information as a result. (The Genesis Motors Canada website has not yet set up a configurator for Canadian buyers.) To list two examples of inapplicable information: the U.S. version of the 2021 G80 won't be available with the rear seat entertainment system and reclining rear seats, and also won't offer the G-matrix 19" rims as an option, at least according to the current info on the U.S. website's configurator. I therefore wouldn't advise putting much reliance on the content of this review if you are a U.S. buyer.
Motor Trend did a video reveal on April 29 of the new G80 with the head honcho of Genesis USA , who happened to mention that the car's starting price will be "just under $50K". That will be a MAJOR increase over the 2020 G80 starting price. I'm not sure anyone was expecting that big an increase. I thought the strategy at Genesis was to undercut the pricing of comparable models at BMW, Audi, etc. Might not really be all that much cheaper any longer. Any thoughts?
Exactly. Even the recently discontinued Lexus GS, a 7-year-old dinosaur, started at $51k. Granted, that does come with a V6, but it's only 11HP more than the 2.5T in the G80 and has less torque. The 5 series starts at $54k, A6 $55k, E Class $54k, all with motors almost 50hp down and less standard equipment. The G80 is a match for any of those three and a good $5k less.
