  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SPYSHOTS: The next generation of the Genesis G80 is here

genesis-eg80-ev-1.jpg

eG80 or test mule?

Considering that Genesis has filed for a trademark for eG80, likely the former.

It looks like 0-100mph in about 11 seconds which is where I hoped it would be. With that, low 13s 1/4 mile with trap speed above 107mph should be feasible and that's the AWD he is testing:

I'm sure the 2 Canadian guys at StraightPipes who offered this review were well-meaning; however they appear to have relied on information from the Korean configurator site, rather than the U.S. configurator, with a lot of misleading or inapplicable information as a result. (The Genesis Motors Canada website has not yet set up a configurator for Canadian buyers.) To list two examples of inapplicable information: the U.S. version of the 2021 G80 won't be available with the rear seat entertainment system and reclining rear seats, and also won't offer the G-matrix 19" rims as an option, at least according to the current info on the U.S. website's configurator. I therefore wouldn't advise putting much reliance on the content of this review if you are a U.S. buyer.

Yeah, car reviewers in general are really only at their best when they actually have a car in front of them to review. I don't need them to regurgitate what the manufacturer spec sheets already describe, especially when their misinterpretation of the information as mentioned before.

Just seems like a hollow attempt to keep their channel alive since they can't currently physically review cars for the next few months.

Motor Trend did a video reveal on April 29 of the new G80 with the head honcho of Genesis USA , who happened to mention that the car's starting price will be "just under $50K". That will be a MAJOR increase over the 2020 G80 starting price. I'm not sure anyone was expecting that big an increase. I thought the strategy at Genesis was to undercut the pricing of comparable models at BMW, Audi, etc. Might not really be all that much cheaper any longer. Any thoughts?

The 5 series starts at $54k, A6 $55k, E Class $54k, all with motors almost 50hp down and less standard equipment. The G80 is a match for any of those three and a good $5k less.

Exactly. Even the recently discontinued Lexus GS, a 7-year-old dinosaur, started at $51k. Granted, that does come with a V6, but it's only 11HP more than the 2.5T in the G80 and has less torque.

But let's wait until we actually see the prices.

And those prices might be without destination, and other fees. At any rate, the G80 Sport (if it comes out) will probably be quite a bit higher than now, no? The new car is nice in some respects, but looks like a grandpa car in some ways. Hope Genesis fixes that with a future Sport, starting with the steering wheel :D. It needs a shifter too. Finally, the jump to 3.5L should have brought better power numbers IMO, but at least there was an improvement, especially in TQ. But the reported reduction in weight might make that difference better than on paper. The only issue is torsional rigidity was probably reduced, so curious to hear an independent review once put to its paces. No word if it'll come with adjustable shocks, air suspension, or any other advanced chassis improvements, to better match the Europeans. We'll see.

Did you pre-order a car or a piece of fine furniture ;)
The car manufactures spend $$$$'s coming up with these fancy names. I tell people I drive a Black G80 with black interior.

Congrats on your new ride.

Those names have meaning. There is Closed Coffin black. It is the darkest available.

haha, good point. I just copy/paste what was on the screen. Dealer tells me I'm the first in line. Now, even more waiting but she'll be worth it.

FYI, a new English language review of the G80 by Carti in Korea is now available, including a test drive. About 22 minutes in length. A very positive review overall.

Korean market cars seem to always be slower and floatier than their global versions, probably due to the entire country consisting of speed bumps and slow urban traffic. I wonder what changes will be made to the North American version performance and ride-wise. We know we'll be getting a stiffer suspension, and quite a few pounds will be shed without the adjustable electric rear seats.

Korean journalists are getting around 5.5 seconds for 0-60 for the 3.5T, which makes no sense given the less powerful old G80 3.3T Sport does it in sub 5 seconds over here. Given the increased power and 300 pounds of reduced weight, I expected this to be at least as fast if not faster than an 840i Gran Coupe, at 4.8 seconds or so. Lots of questions in the air. The car can't come soon enough.

Do we expect the sport to have that carbon fibre look trim in the interior? Pretty sure the current one has no wood in it right?
