  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Center Console Peeling/Flaking

Yes I’ve noticed that as well with my car. I only had it for 8 months before I’d noticed it. I’m definitely getting the dealership to remedy this.

I would have the dealer replace the peeling trim if possible under warranty, and then protect the area with clear 3M film so that the paint will not be rubbed off by items placed in the storage area like cell phones.

Anyone having this issue on a 2020 G70? Looking at mine it sure looks like the plastic trim piece is matt black so would be odd if it was coated with something? No issues so far. 9FDB83E8-BA42-4A93-AD7F-F67FD8617447.webp

How has the new piece been holding up?

So far the replacement has held up without any of the flaking issues present in the original. I've used that part of the console area no differently than before, so I state with reserved confidence the replacement pieces were up to snuff in terms of quality and it must have been a bad batch or poor manufacturing control in the instances of those G70 owners with issues.

The dealership didn't bat an eye. Just ordered the new part and replaced when it came in. Had to make a 2nd trip to the dealer (by porter, they came to get the car and gave me a loaner).

1700 miles on mine, no issues yet. Maybe this was fixed on the 2020? I'll def keep an eye out. I am so far the only one with the faded door controls but the parts are on order and will be replaced this week when they come in.

Looks to me the protective film is still covering up the bottons/controls. Its real thin, so try peeling off. Or use an adhesive remover as maybe the adhesive is still on them?

Not that I could tell. Took it to the dealer last week and they had never seen it before and got genesis approval to replace them so that's the route I am going. Hope for a clean swap and no issues after!

Had a very similar issue with the fading of a button. They replaced it and it's been good since

I have the same issue since one year

I think I'm seeing it on one of my buttons. I thought I saw it like the first week or so, but it looked more like it was due to shadows/reflections. I'll be asking dealer to replace when I do my first oil change. At least that's if I can't clean it off.... haven't tried yet.

Just got my 2021 two weeks ago and have the same issue. Driver, passenger, and rear all faded.

Just noticed this on my car. Kind of hard to tell if it's from wear and tear.

Probably not from wear and tear. Mine started peeling the second day I had it.

I just started seeing it on one button on my passenger side. Had my car since April. I'll definitely mention it when I take it in for its first service.
