  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G80 Sport - discoloration of the dark chrome trim around the doors

So, is this the same issue I'm having (see pic). My G70 is "brand new" but probably sat on a sunny Phoenix lot for a year seeing as how it's a 2019 model. I really didn't notice this so much while shopping, but it's annoying me now. I don't know if I have the dark chrome. The door handle etc. is much darker in real life than the phono. The car has every option available with the 2.0T. Sport, Prestige, Elite, Prestige packages. Would we expect that Genesis would replace under warranty IYO?

That looks like shit for a brand new car recently off the lot. It's tough to tell from the pics, but yeah I'd ask about it next time you bring it in.

Wow, you guys are lucky. My dealership warranty manager claimed it was tree sap damage and wouldn't replace it. When I pointed out that tree sap doesn't just magically land on the trim around my windows and nowhere else they said it was damage from a car wash (Which I have used once), but somehow those chemicals only did this to the trim around my windows and nothing else. Then they said they had seen this on no other cars. So, it had to be environmental.

Showed them this page and they said it changed nothing, and to call customer care.

As I was leaving the service guy even said that he hoped they did the right thing, and he'd replace it if it was in his hands.

Called customer care who said they'd take a look and call me back. Over a week later I get a call saying that the dealership had said it was tree sap damage. I told them that the dealership said to call them to overturn their decision. So, asking what they thought wasn't the point, and they said they were e-mailing me to an alternate dispute method.

Looked at the email and it was the contact information for the BBB.

Genesis experience for the win!
Did this ever get fixed under the Genesis warranty?? My chrome trim looks a lot like yours did/does.

Well I dropped my '18 off to have the trim replaced this morning and they gave me a '20 G80 Sport (red) as a loaner. Aside from the differences in the entertainment center the car looks extremely similar. This is not surprising from what I've read. What I did find a bit amusing was the same dark chrome window trim is still on this model year. A bit of confusion from the loaner car person informed me that another gentleman who happened to be a Hyundai employee was dropping his car off for the exact same fix. She thought I was him, which might explain the sweet loaner. I'd say Genesis is going to be fixing this issue for years to come. Hopefully they did something different with the '21s.

Wow. Well, this has to be easier than when Hyundai had to replace 600K Sonata/KIA engines that were ten+ years old. I appreciate your sharing that they did indeed take your G70 in to get fixed...if they give me any guff, I'm bringing in your screenshot. Thanks!

Just to be clear it is a G80 Sport. Not G70.

Wow, our loaner was G70 Elite, 2.0 HTRAC. 1200 miles. Nice enough car, but not a G80 Sport.

View attachment 15239I have my G80 sport for about 3 months and after I got my car back from the dealership for some rattle and armrest fabric issue. I notice that the dark chrome trim around the doors starting to discolor. I see spots everywhere on the chrome. Pieces started to look like it was from a 15 year old car.

Is anyone is having this issue? This is a WTF moment.
Yes I am too

Genesis is still replacing the trim for those inquiring. I just bought my 2018 G80 sport a little over a month ago in Texas. I took in to my local Genesis dealer here in Colorado Springs and showed them the discoloration issue and they called me back a few hours later saying my new trim was on order for all my windows and is covered under warranty. It took a week to get the replacement trim in and I am dropping it off tomorrow to get replaced. My loaner will be either a 2020 G70 Sport or G80 Sport depends on which one is available.

I finally got my car back with the side trim replaced. Comedy of errors as it took what felt like three weeks. I'll share a couple of data points that I don't recall previously in this thread.

I was told that when replacing the last bit of side trim around the back seat side little window that the window is also replaced. I was their first trim replacement customer so they weren't aware of that ahead of time. This was delay #2. Well, my windows are tinted so they had to bring in a tint company and then tint those new little windows, delay #3. One of the service managers made a comment that the repair bill was $3K for all the work. Assuming that's accurate I would think Genesis at some point is going to come up with either a fix, or looking for ways to get out of full replacement. That's all conjecture on my part though.

My greatest heartburn through all of this aside from not having my car for 2-3 weeks was finding out mid process that they were going to have to re-tint some of my windows. So something to keep in mind and be prepared for when your car is going in the shop.

The trim looks great and I picked up a bottle of that spray on ceramic coating Bubba referenced somewhere in this thread. Just need to put it on the trim and hope that slows down the inevitable.

I am having the same problem. I also noticed it after a visit to the dealership. I've had my g80 sport for a little over a year. I would like to know who to address this issue with. Paid too much money for the issues i've been having

Spend some time reading the complete thread. Many avenues of how to address have been discussed.

Got my trimming replaced. Unfortunately, there is a slight dent on one of the replacement. How aggravating.
I have the same issue on my 18' G80. Did the dealership replace the trim under warranty?

i don't know about the US but in Canada, they do not honour it, I have to wrap in black and coated with ceramic , so far so good

Canada here. Had mine replaced in full twice under warranty, no questions asked.

Ye

Mine looked like that when I bought it. I sent it back to the make ready area 5 times before someone found a way to fix it. It looked like new when I accepted it.

What material is the discolored trim actually made of?
