  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What did you pay for your Genesis G80?

Texas general sales tax is 8.25% in the Dallas area, but I believe they only charge the state tax when buying a car, not the 2% add-on city taxes.

So.. live in a state with no income tax when earning a living - but retire in a state that does have an income tax, but lower sales tax. Work it both ways!
In the perfect world.

Just got my 2019 G80 Sport Brand New (300 miles on it). MSRP $48k, after taxes, additional insurance for wheels/windshield/interior, prepaid maintenance and a lot of stuff and Chicago City (and IL as well) taxes I got it for $57k total. Not too cheap, but I'm happy.

Congratulations. Good luck, enjoy and be safe.

2020 G80 3.3t. It is difficult to say price due to a trade in. I snagged a new ‘20 after I did the math and found adding the optional packages to a 2021 model to make it equivalent would be $15k extra. I would probably have selected a different car for that much difference. I think they will have a difficult time selling the more expensive ‘21 G80.
The dealer also used IMHO deceptive trade practices. After agreeing on a price, I was told “oh by the way, your warranty started 6 months ago when this car was in the Chicago Auto Show”.
They are trying to make it right, but I have not seen any proof yet.

If it was sold to you as new, you should be able to get the warranty started on the day you bought it.

I am fighting them now. Genesis says that they can now show me as the original owner. I am not sure what that means, since I bought the car with 83 miles on it.
Since I am the original owner now, the warranty should have started with my purchase. However, the dealership said that they would provide the warranty at their facility for the entire warranty length. If I move, I would have to transport my vehicle to that dealership for any warranty service.

No such thing, really laughable. Dont believe them. Call customer services and open in a case. When you get a response in writing (yes get it in writing) you will be able to any Genesis dealer.

You would be doing everyone a favor by giving us the dealer’s name so they could be avoided at all costs.

So I got mine with minus 2 months of warranty/genesis services/etc. How the dealer explained it to me - this car (3.3t 2019 G80) was discontinued by the manufacturer and already sold to the dealership 2 months before I bought it. Most of the cars, which they have at their lot are property of the manufacturer and the warranty starts when manufacturer sold it to the end customer or to the dealership (as it was with mine). I had 300 miles when I got it (maybe test drives, or so), but I am still the original owner and get $9k discount off MSRP, so I'm pretty ok with that.
But in your case the dealer at least should provide you a nice discount for that. Is this dealership somewhere in Chi area?

I will give Genesis two more weeks to make an effort to correct my issues. They claim to be hindered by Covid.
I have to believe they are a dependable and upstanding company, until they are not.

My guess is that you actually bought a used vehicle so only the remaining new vehicle warranty is applicable. They are trying to get around that by saying they will take care of the warranty items in the future at their dealership. Hopefully I'm wrong. Of course if Genesis can make you the original owner then the full warranties will apply.

Not necessary. Two months ago I have test-driven "brand new" G80 Ultimate 2018 with 7k miles on it. It was a courtesy vehicle, so it was never titled. So by papers, it is a new vehicle and you're the first owner if you buy it. In fact yes, this is a used vehicle with less warranty, than expected.
I'm not an advocate of that dealership, which selling these cars as new, but if you can get a good deal for it, so why not? Of course, the buyer should know, what is he buying before signing the papers and agreeing on a price.

Mileage does not signify being used but rather titling. In the past, vehicles used for promotional use (car shows, sporting events, etc.) were titled and then had to be sold as used.

Honestly, I don't know how it works, but I have test-driven exactly this car, which still on sale:
It has 7k miles on it and was never titled (checked carfax), and it still listed as "new", despite it has two years less warranty and mileage.
It seems not right to me, as I said I'm not an advocate of this practice. For example, BMW selling courtesy vehicles with 1-2k miles as used, which seems fair.

Interesting if a dealer does that since BMWNA/USA allows dealers to sell a vehicle as new as long as it has under 5,000 miles on it. They will allow the vehicle to receive all new vehicle rebates and incentives.

Genesis G80 2019 AWD Ultimate 3.8
Vic Black
Brand New (~200 miles on odometer)
Bought from dealer in Chicago suburbs

OTD $47,192 (including sales tax, title and registration)
Bought in the last week of June 2020

MSRP was around $56K. Dealer offered to sell for $44K, likely because it was the last 2019 in their inventory.

Curious when it was made, per the sticker inside the driver door frame. I bought my 19 in Nov, it was made in Feb.
