If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My 8 year-old grandson just broke my passenger rear door handle. The small retaining clip at the rear of the handle broke off. This is the second time a handle has broken. I few months ago the front passenger handle broke in a similar way. It was replaced at no cost by the dealer. Off to see the dealer about fixing the newest break.

Has anyone else had a problem with breaking handles?

ajn

No. And I have 157,000 miles on my 2011 Genesis. Also, many people have traveled in the car and numerous times its had 5 people travel in it. So many people have used the handles in my car.

are the handles on a 2011 the same as those on a 2015?

they are not the same. I did not see that you had a 2015.

Except that this is the 2015 forum...

Revived thread? Broke two handles over two weeks on my 2015 Genesis in June 2018. 26K miles on the car. Passenger front and passenger rear. Upon opening the doors normally, handle separates from door and door stays closed. Interior mechanism was plastic, must be weak plastic. Dealer had to order the parts so two trips for each event. Covered by warranty but ridiculous this would even happen. Dealer said they'd never encountered it before but I have seen several instances posted in the Genesis Coupe forum. Now I'm paranoid about opening the doors and do so extra gingerly. Of course I had just filled out a great survey about my Genesis experience prior to these events.

Yeah, I had both door handles break on my 2010 Genesis Coupe, but no issues so far on the '15 sedan (KOW).

Yall some strong ass people.

I've only had my Genesis 2015 for a year, and my 6 year old nephew opened the door and the handle broke. Shit is made of plastic. So no you don't have to be strong, maybe just pull to hard for a sec, and shit it fragile and breaks. Also there electrical system sucks.

Same happened to my 2015 genesis

Same issue here 2 months ago rear passenger side broke when my 7yr opened it. $150 later dealer replaced it. The job was performed by my service rep, so it looked pretty easy. Needless to say drive side just broke too not waiting a month for parts from the dealer again. Ordered the part my self and figured I'd just do it, but can't find the diagram or directions on how to do it. Need to paint the part too as it came in unpainted which is fine don't care if it is a 100% match or not. These cars look sharp, but I'd never buy one again between the random bs stuff that breaks and poor electrical issues I'm done w/ this $60k POS. Sad thing is I do like how it drives, but I've had this car in the shop by far more then any other high end vehicle I've ever owned.

If any one can point me in the right direction on how to replace the rear exterior door handles it would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing happened to me last night. I was shocked. It was the right side rear passenger door. I never use that and have no kids and was just putting groceries in. Off to the dealership I go to get this serviced. I have a 2015 genesis too

Yes, I've broken 2 on my 2015 Genesis and 1 on my 2011 Genesis. It's all plastic inside the handle so they break easily...

Just had mine (rear door handle, driver side) break yesterday literally opening the door to get my stuff out and giving the keys to the service rep.

Yeah, these handles are flawed and break fairly often unfortunately.

My 2015 Genesis passenger rear handle just flew off!!! Definitely plastic broke. Amazing to see how many 2015 genesis owners are experiencing the same thing. I certainly hope tis will be covered by warranty. I'll print off all these comments and b*!$^ a little, maybe. I was thinking it my girl-power strength, but apparently it's cheap plastic!

I had the front passenger door handle snap off in my 5ft 90lb wife's hand. The door rarely gets used. Tried to get replaced under warranty but Hyundai said NO (61k miles). I said for a $200 part you are losing a future customer, but was belittled and told, "It's more than $200 because we have to have labor and match the paint". I assumed the mechanics are actually at the dealership all day and not on-call... oh, well. Hyundai just didn't care. I was told it is wear and tear. I said I have a 2005 Camry with over 200k miles and the doors work fine. They told me, "That's Toyota!" I said it's a safety issue and they didn't care about that either. I opened an NHTSA complaint (# 11390883). Maybe I will give Genesis a chance again... don't know... love the styling and drive, but I am afraid it might just be tinsel... shiny and cheap. Already had the propeller shaft assembly replaced under warranty too due to drive noise.

Maybe it came off in your wife's hand but was broken by the kid that tried to break into your car last week?

Had one break on the right rear door about a year ago, have extended warranty and dealer would not cover, but I pushed and pushed and asked- "if this happened to a car with 35K miles on it- what would you do" so they covered it. Broke the left rear door tonight- just opening the door normally.
This did not happen in my 2013 Genesis or any other car I have ever owned- so its a Hyundai issue.
Will see what the dealer says tomorrow... disappointing.

Well the actually part that is broken only cost $16 for passenger side online, which is the handle stop trim piece.

The main door handle itself seem fine; so it should be a easy repair to do yourself. However you may have to have the part painted, so it may still cost about $100 if you pay someone to do it.

Here is how to remove the broken door handle section. Just pull a plug and unbolt it. Bolt in the new part and replace door plug. Too easy. Yeah it is a pain in the butt when parts break, but it is easy and cheap to fix on the Genesis. Pretty simple car to repair mostly.
