If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Broken door handle

For those who have not yet experienced a door handle failure, I suggest that, when pulling the door handle, one firmly place their thumb on the door handle cover thereby relieving stress on this under-engineered part.
LOL this is exactly what I had to tell my family members to do while opening doors :)

The door handle is a 2 piece set. Is the broken part the "door handle cover"?

If so then you may be able to salvage the broken part. It requires removing the interior door panel which is not that difficult. Youtuber's have uploaded plenty of how-to videos.

After gaining access to the inside of the door panel, drill a couple of small holes into the the broken door handle cover's interior plastic braces.

Using a piece of thin wire, e.g. picture frame mounting wire, thread the wire through the newly drilled holes using enough wire to anchor the door handle cover to the rear door itself.

The door's metal frame has an opening through which the wired can be fed. Loosen one of the bolts that attach the door's metal frame to the exterior door, wrap the wire around the the bolt and re-tighten the bolt.

Sorry, I didn't take pictures when I salvaged my door handle cover. Good luck!
Ugh, my front passenger door handle just gave it up today (2015). Door barely gets used since we typically drive around in my wife's car as a family. Thanks for the insights on this...will probably try this method.

Well crap. Good news, it's not the shitty plastic cover that's broken. Took off the cover and could see the door handle is pulling the spring loaded lever and attached wire. Proceeded to take the interior door panel off, undid all the bolts around the fiberglass inner door frame, but it doesn't wanna come out. I didn't want to just pull it out for fear of dropping the window glass. Anybody of have luck removing the inner door panel? It's the panel in the attached picture. I figured I'd pull the door panel off, find the disconnected wire, reach in and fix it...but no:wallbash:

Reading through the service manual some more. Looks like you gotta remove the bolts by the door latch too. That's definitely where it was sticking. Will give it another go later in the week when I get some more time.

You have to remove the window glass too. That panel holds the window regulator, which holds the window glass.

Yeah, watched some Youtube videos last night about removing the window regulator. Once you get the window out of the way AND take out the door handle, the whole regulator panel wiggles out with the door actuator attached. See pic. The grey foam tubing at the top is the wire coming from the door handle and I can see it's moving a pulley inside the actuator, but nothing happens:(

Found this guy on eBay, so $85 all in to fix it. Comes with all the plastic doodads attached so I won't have to dismantle all the plastic parts from the existing actuator. If you buy it from Hyundai (about $160 and it's just the black body of the actuator. I'm a pro at dismantling my door now that I've played with it 3 times trying to get it out:sneaky: 2015-2019 HYUNDAI GENESIS G80 Front Righ Driver Door Lock Latch ACTUATOR OEM #12 | eBay

I bought one brand new off of Amazon for $80.

Got my part from eBay and replaced it, all is well again.

Must say, Hyundai's actuators aren't the best anymore. The release pin actuator to my gas cap door similarly broke internally. That was more a PITA to replace since you have to reach up in the trunk wheel well. And now this door actuator broke on me, and the passenger door rarely gets used since we typically drive around more in my wife's car as a family.

The tip of my fuel door open actuator broke off as well. By cannibalizing the broken actuator with a new OEM one ($26 on Amazon), I was able to replace the actuator w/o removing the trunk liner. See "Broken Fuel Filler Door Lock Actuator" in the forum.

Still like the car but these petty product failures for a top of the line luxury vehicle concern me.

LOL, my stupid fuel filler door lock actuator broke 2 winters ago too! It failed, or at least I noticed it failed on a cold/snowy February morning. So like a dumbass I'm trying to pry it open at the gas station because I thought it was just frozen. Finally gave up, went home and had to cut the tip off. Ordered the actuator and replaced it from the inside out by just prying back the trunk liner and reaching in. Wasn't the easiest, but it worked.

So yeah, I do still love my Genesis as a whole, but 2 simple things broken were a PITA to deal with. I can only imagine what the dealer would have wanted to replace both of these. Probably would have been $800 to fix the door and $500 to fix the fuel door.

Glue doesn't do the job for long. Broke the door down and "southern engineered" the handle back to the door. Better than the OEM anchor and not that hard to do.

The front passenger door handle on my 2015 Genesis broke a few months ago. After doing some research on glue, I'm going to try either the JB Weld, or Rhino glue. With so many people having the same problem, Hyundai should recall this, and fix all of our car handles.

My 8 year-old grandson just broke my passenger rear door handle. The small retaining clip at the rear of the handle broke off. This is the second time a handle has broken. I few months ago the front passenger handle broke in a similar way. It was replaced at no cost by the dealer. Off to see the dealer about fixing the newest break.

Has anyone else had a problem with breaking handles?

ajn
I have also had this happen and pretty sure it was going to happen regardless of your grandson, so dont be hard on him. I am surprised that you are having this issue with a 2023, as mine is a 2015 and would have thought by now Genesis would have figured this out.
My breakage happened outside of warranty, and I found a small body shop that would install and paint my supplied parts for $100.00 I believe, and the parts were under $100.00 so all in all not terribly painful and far cheaper than the dealer wanted.
Good Luck

Right rear door handle cover just popped off today-broken plastic clip :(

The plastic around the threaded metal piece was broken into 4 pieces, so used jbweld plastic epoxy for that and gel for the base-going to grind the sides down and try the fitment.

Worked just fine after filing down the sides a bit with my dremel!

This problem (plastic door handle) has happened to me twice. I fixed it the first time with a liberal dose of JB weld. I'll probably do the same thing again. My son tends to wrench pretty hard on the doors, so I expect it to happen to the front doors soon.
