  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Early Owner Feedback

I'm currently in the deciding phase on whether or not to buy a G70. I've put down my deposit, and have been talking for a few days with DJ here in Edmonton. I know that there are a couple of owners that have had their cars for a short while now, and I'm curious how the cars have been. Does everything work as advertised? Any issues? Or conversely, is it even better now that you're finding any nice little surprises with the car?
The only mistake I made on the 2020G70 was not getting the sport module. I got 3 3 prestige. The difference is the adaptive suspension should have been standard..The 2019 had 18 inch tires while the 2020 they switched to 19 that made the ride harsh on bumps. Yes I had two G80's before and went to the G70 as I live alone. My Audi A5 has a better ride

... For all of you that own a G70 with the manual transmission....
... I am considering buying a new 2021 model with a manual. I do not want any car with an automatic.
....Do you recommend it or something else that I should consider?

This post has the best breakdown about how the 2.0T manual performs: Joined the Club - 2.0t Sport M/T

It'll be up to you whether those things are important to you or not. If you want a good turbo car with a manual, the upcoming Elantra N or current Veloster N are fast. If you want one that's faster, you could wait for the Nissan 400Z. If you want a good naturally aspirated manual, the upcoming next gen Subaru BRZ should be solid. If you prioritize luxury, then the G70 is probably your best bet. But if you're willing to compromise some luxury for better manual performance, the BMW 2 Series or last gen 4 Series should be good.

Hopefully that new Yaris GR comes to North America in some version or another. It looks like a ton of fun.

Kusa... I did get to drive a BMW 230i 2.0L turbo, 2 door sport coupe with an automatic last week and yes, I liked it very much. I would have to order one to get a manual and not ever having owned a BMW product, I am hesitant to do so. I am probably too money conscious to feel comfortable buying a BMW because of the required maintenance and upkeep and due to the fear of German plastic not lasting more than 5 years. It may just be a personal fear that I could overcome.
... The Veloster N and the current 370z were already on my list, and I have been anticipating the new Elantra N coming. I did previously own a 2003 350z and am familiar with that car.
... Thank you

You are getting less than 10 mpg (US) driving conservatively!?!?!?! What in the world.........
I have had the 2022 G70 Launch edition for a couple weeks now. I put a lot of KM on it already and I can get the L/100km down to 9.0 if I'm in Eco mode and driving very conservatively. Ramp that up to sports plus and I'm right around the 18 mark. When I use them in combination from my custom settings to sports plus mode and those are basically the only two that I use I'm getting 10-11. I use the sports+ in town and as soon as I get on the highway I'm in custom. Eco powertrain, Eco AWD and sports + for steering and suspension. I'm noticing very little change in L/100km when my speed changes from 110-140 over longer periods. I'm getting 10-11. So the car is really aerodynamic and doesn't cost a lot of fuel to cruise. The fuel tank gets me 550km which is a bit smaller than I expected but whatever, I didn't buy this for fuel economy. I bought it because of the perma grin I have while driving it.

I've had my G70 3.3 Sport for a week, and I'm absolutely loving it. It arrived with one minor flaw - a scratch in the driver's side window. A rather odd defect, but the Genesis Experience Manager addressed it immediately by advising a new window was already on order. The delivery walk through was very thorough and informative. Frankly, the entire purchase and delivery experience was flawless - huge thanks to Spencer Callaghan at Genesis North Calgary.

I was shocked to read some of the previous comments regarding fuel consumption, but I'm pleased to report that my experience is totally different. I drove the car from Calgary to Radium and back again (mountain highway driving for those not from this part of the world), and had highway fuel consumption at 9.5 L / 100 km (24.75 mpg). I wasn't driving hyper aggressively, but I certainly enjoyed experiencing what this car is able to do. I am seeing fuel consumption at 11.5-12 L / 100 km (20 mpg) for city driving. Again - I am driving moderately with occasional moments where I feel like pushing the car. I'm not sure what is happening with the other vehicles, but I'm happy to report that the fuel consumption on this car is on par with other performance sedans I've driven.

There isn't much to be said about this car that hasn't already been said. Yes, the back seat is fairly cramped, but I don't plan on sitting back there any time soon. I was able to fit my golf clubs in the trunk without having to remove the driver from my bag and there was still room for another golf bag and a couple of small / medium suitcases. It isn't a huge trunk, but enough room for a weekend away with my wife.

This car performs beautifully, but it is also a comfortable car to cruise in. The heads up display and lane centering make operating the vehicle during long trips effortless. I really enjoyed running the car through the paces on the twists and turns through the mountain passes. The handling and acceleration were exhilarating.

I'm very pleased with my purchase, and wouldn't hesitate to look at another Genesis vehicle base on my experience so far.

Flying out to pick up my 2022 G70 3.3 Sport Prestige this Friday. Got a 600 mile drive after picking it up so I will let you know my initial thoughts! Looking forward to getting in this vehicle.

Had my 3.3 two weeks.
MPG: you have to really baby it to get 18+ mixed mpg.
I knew what it was going in but still feel it should get 20 in eco mode.

Things I like: shutting engine off puts it in park. no need to hit both buttons. Auto wipers, Styling, handling , speed.
Thinks I zonk: the sunroof creaks all the time. Wiper stalk too close to paddle shifter. Grille shows water spots too easily I keep hitting my elbow on the B pillar hard, after owning a 2 door coupe previously.
Trunk is very shallow and barely fits a golf bag horizontally

Got lots of insight from this site when I was purchasing my car, so just thought I'd try to make a contribution.

Came out of an Infiniti Q60 Red Sport Coupe and purchased a Genesis G70 3.3T in Siberian Ice. Other cars I was considering was a Mercedes E450 coupe and an M340. I started by looking at the Genesis just for completeness, but at the end, the price/value equation won me over. Brand cache couldn’t make up the 20-25k gap in the vehicles.
It's been about a month and a few thousand km's, so I'm by no means an expert, but have enough road time to provide early owner feedback.

- From a power perspective, I'd say it's probably on par with my previous car, and even feels a little bit more aggressive in sport mode. The handling in sport was also a big surprise. I've driven it pretty hard, and this car feels glued to the ground and wants to go. I honestly expected it to be a slight step down in this respects….but it keeps up!

- Esthetically, I’m not sure it turns too many heads – and not sure I care. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice looking car, def gets some looks, and I personally like it more every day. One stand out in this respect is the colour…I’ve had more people comment on the Siberian Ice…colour choice was a home run. (…and 25% tints all around was a good call too…good privacy, and doesn’t scream drive-by shooting)

- Probably the second most comfortable car I’ve sat in. (first being an Acura Legend, in case someone’s wondering) Seats are perfect…everything is well positioned and convenient. I spend lots of time in traffic and in grandpa mode (aka comfort mode), and while it doesn’t pull like sport mode, it’s quiet and takes anything the road can throw at it quietly and comfortably.

- Features wise, has everything I need….highly customizable, and easy to use. (except the heated arm rests in the Mercedes…but frigid forearms doesn’t rank on my concerns list) Noticed some people complaining about the app. Guess it’s personal…but I really don’t care if it takes a minute from when I send a request, for that operation to actually take place. Seems like a negligible gripe to me.

- Need to mention the infotainment system…as I read lots of criticisms on this point that it’s a clone of the Hyundai system. I’m a tech guy….and while maybe it doesn’t have the ‘graphics’ prowess of other systems, usability and function are actually great....don’t know how I slummed it for the last 4 years and survived.

Wouldn’t be a real review if I didn’t share some of what I perceive to be shortcomings…and actually only a couple so far.

- Gas mileage isn’t bad….it actually sucks ‘SUV style’. I get about 13.3km/100km…mixed city/hwy. I’m not concerned about the money for gas (I saved 25k…and the price/value ratio would still hold), but it’s amplified by the fact that the tank is 15Ls smaller than my old tank, and 1L/100km less efficient. Time spent for an extra 37 fill ups over 4 years….makes me want to punch a Genesis engineer in the face. (just one though)

- Wireless charging pad….have read some mixed reviews, and haven’t toyed around with it too much, but not stellar. Not sure if it’s coil placement or materials….but limited success charging several phone models. Not really a game changer to me.

To sum it up….I’d make the same decision again. Quick, fun, and comfortable. Nearly everything is as great as I expected from the reviews….and when I’m complaining to myself about the extra fill ups, with the savings by my math, Genesis is paying me about 100 bucks an hour to do it…only unhappy guy here is the engineer I dummied earlier.

This is probably the best real review I read so far in all my research. I think this sold me as you are coming from one of the cars I had in my search and you were searching the same cars I am now while looking at the G70. thank you

Have had mine now for 3 years as of last week. I can say that the fuel is still a thing but truth be told it's more the driver than it is anything else. It's way too easy to jam out of intersections in this thing. I trounce all kinds of cars and trucks that aren't expecting it. Highway it's pretty serviceable fuel wise. I rarely use eco, it doesn't make a huge difference over comfort TBH.

Looks wise I get less these days as there are a few more bopping around here but I still get teens and random in the grocery store parking lot asking about it here and there. I rarely use sport, it's honestly too much around the city in traffic, the car is really damn fast. Unless you are using it to tear out of an intersection or blast onto the highway I don't flex it often. I did get to enjoy the undocumented drift mode using sport mode to jump out of a parking lot in front of a very surprised truck in a beautiful Ken Block-esque sweeping drift, really impressive if not surprising to me and my passenger in the moment. :-D

My other minor niggles have been fixed in following model years I have noted. The back seat foot room is still trash, even worse in my 2019. Knee room is OK but man my 13yo son leapt up in size during the first year of the pandemic and now when it's in the back seat with his size 12's I feel bad for him, the foot space is pretty bad. I noticed the 2021 had created a bit more room but it's still a baffling design issue.

I'd still buy it again all things being equal, I don't think there was anything else that compared that year or the next and the Genesis purchasing and service is exactly what I wanted, I hate car dealerships. I'll look at another Genesis when this car is up in 2 years, depending on what their EV models look like.

That last part is key to me. I have looked at everything comparable and the pricing is so much different for used cars. Value to options Genesis wins hands down.

Now so many people are trying to convince me to get a Stinger but two big flags. One I am moving from a 2018 VW GTI that was modded and lowered, at 41 with growning arthritis hand issues from military, time for me to go sport luxury than sport GT. Two the Kia Stingers in the Florida region are more expensive than the G70.

Interestingly I would have bought a Stinger as well mainly for the extra space, I actually tried but KIAs pricing was so out of wack, as well as their lease rates comparatively sucked. Dealers were so flippant about even talking to me I just left and placed my order online at Genesis despite having to wait weeks for it to be sent over. Hard to ignore the concierge service and home delivery benefits this day and age.

G70 definitely a better handler and a bit quicker. Styling is subjective of course but I still think the G70 wins on class. Do appreciate the Stinger though.

Totally agree with all your points. I feel better about trading in my VW GTI after reading your signature. I noticed you have a GTI and don't have complaints about driving the G70.

Just wanted to note real quickly, came from a 2016 golf R w dcc and nav, 6spd. Carvana had a crazy trade in value. Haven't looked back since. Bought a 3.3t prestige awd in uyuni white and absolutely love it so far.

I'll post more later when have some time but I shopped around trying to stay within the vw family, even considering the mk8s. Cant do the capacitive button thing and having all your hav tied into your infotainment is a deal breaker for me.

Make sure to send a copy of your sale to those Kia salesman.

Hello I just got a G70 and I'm getting about 10mpg! Definitely a disappointing surprise.

Sounds like you're looking at instantaneous mileage rather than average. Or you're racing up a mountain, haha.
Even with fairly aggressive (but not track) driving in Sport mode you should average at least 17mpg in mixed driving. (BTW, the car's computer mileage readout seems to be nearly 10% high). In comfort mode, normal mixed driving should be about 20 mpg.
Don't get me wrong, these aren't great numbers, and definitely suck compared to every 3 series I've owned, but it's waaay better than 10.

17?? I have the 2.0t version, and I don't even get 17 with mixed driving.

I'd take the car back to the dealer in that case. That's ridiculous. Hell, my wife's AWD 2.5l turbo CX-5 SUV gets 26mpg average.
