  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Bugs & Other Issues

As i might have mentioned earlier, I set up an appointment to have the fan noise checked. In the intervening time I got a call from the dealer saying they checked a couple other GV80s on the lot (their techs asked about the noise too) and suggested I cancel the appointment. Apparently, the loud fan noise is what it is. Terrible, but at least you don't hear it inside the car.

Have it checked, mine does not do that.

How can their Techs compare it to your car if they have not heard your car? You deserve better than that!

Actually, they have. I got the first car at the dealership. After some period of time with it I drove it to the service department and said, "Listen to this!"

They went and started a new GV80 that they had just received and put the 2 cars running side by side. After about a half hour of running my car it still had a loud fan and their new car had a very quiet fan (about 60 degrees temp out at the time here in FL). At that point they scheduled the appointment to check the fan a few days later.

And then, as I said before: " In the intervening time I got a call from the dealer saying they checked a couple other GV80s on the lot (their techs asked about the noise too) and suggested I cancel the appointment. Apparently the GV80 never warmed up enough just sitting on the lot running. It wasn't until a few techs took the cars for a road test that they noticed the loud fan too. I would presume that since this is winter that if you live in a cold climate you may never hear it either.

I am having problems with my Sirius XM radio. Often times I start the car it will be stuck on a single XM channel. I cannot change channels, it's stuck on a single station. I can switch to FM/AM/HD, Apple car play, or bluetooth audio. Those all work, but XM is stuck on a single channel.

I am getting ready to purchase the GV80 and would appreciate inputs from new owners regarding problems experienced with the vehicle. Thanks.
Bought mine (3.5T) on 28Dec20 and it was in the shop on 11Jan21, needing an entirely new rear axle due to a factory defect apparently. Dealership is dragging their feet on fixing it - they've had it for 11 days so far and haven't even started repairs. So, my brand new car is now a used car that required major repair after only having it for 2 weeks. I only put a couple hundred miles on it in the 2 weeks I had it. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement given how much we paid for it. Has anyone else had this issue?

How did you know something was wrong with the rear axle?

Most of the files were not recognized and some would play for a few seconds. I solved the problem but Genesis does have work to do. What they say should work, does not. I do understand that some files might have characters embedded in the name that could cause a problem, however, the files did work in my 2017 G90 so the expectation is they should work in the GV80. The one file extension that does work is a .WAV file. I converted all my files to this format (it took a while since I have 3,800 music files in over 100 folders.) I used Movavi Video Converter 21 Premium (works for audio also). You can drag an entire folder into the app and it converts very fast. It's available online for about $40. I formatted the SSD Sandisk drive with EXFAT and transferred the files. I added a VIDEO folder to the collection. When I voice command to "Open USB video", it does so. File selection is the same as the audio files. You can use a flash drive as well. I suggest USB 3, at least. Sandisk has a USB 3.2 (Sandisk Extreme Pro.) I'm going to copy the files onto it and leave it in the compartment as a backup.
This is a follow up on the USB music problem. As per above I have my music on a 1 TB SanDisk drive and all my files were converted to WAV files. It has been working for weeks. Today, I got in, turned it on and on many files that had played previously, I got the error message.. This is a Genesis problem and I hope they address it. My sales guy said he would make it a priority and call tech service - I never heard from him again. The connect service is useless. so, how do we get it solved?

I don't believe the model has any thing to do with the problem (whether it's Prestige, or Advanced .. or?

I just leased a GV80 Prestige on 12/3020. I put about 500 miles on it so far. Highway 75%, city 25%. so far mileage is slightly over 20 mpg. I am not an aggressive driver but my wife is.

We love the car. It draws attention every time we park it. I traded in a 2017 G90 Ultimate, which was the best car I ever had (mixed emotions about giving it up.)

The only problem I have encountered so far is with the USB audio function. On my G90 I had a flash drive, with my music collection. I plugged the same flash drive into the GV80 and I'm having problems. I'm getting messages that state the format is not compatible; the files are mp3s or m4as. the m4as seem to play. I reformatted two new flash drives and tried all the combinations that my Mac desktop offered. Still doesn't work. Next, I'll connect my iPhone directly and see if it works.

The only other thing I noticed is the engine noise when I stand in front of the car. It's quite loud. When I did the same with my G90, I couldn't even tell that it was running. However, the inside of the GV80 is very, very quiet - as advertised.
What deal you got for lease ?

What did Sirius XM and your dealer tell you when you contacted them? Such problems occur when radios are not registered.

I have a Prestige and zero problems with MP3s. I copied several thousand songs (in folder per album format) on to a new 3.1 USB stick I bought. No errors and very nice sound. Have you checked the software version of your head unit? I noticed my maps are 10/23/2020 so maybe there was more than maps updated then?

when i had my GV80 at the detailer to apply the ceramic coating they noted some small dents in the hood, i'm going to take it in to the dealer for them to fix it, not sure if something happened at the dealership but i keep her parked in my garage.

Have you tried playing music via bluetooth thru your phone?

I have, sounds great!

That’s good to know. Just curious, would using a iPod touch in bluetooth mode be easier or just redundant? I’m asking because I’m really disappointed that the iPod classic won’t work.

I’m hoping to take delivery next Saturday and have already set up a USB flashdrive hoping it will work.

My ipod does not work either. So far, I stream. I do wonder if the mp3 format would be better. Can anyone compare?

Well, in desperation I just ordered a Bluetooth transmitter for the iPod classic off of eBay. I won’t see it for a few weeks but I’ll let you know if it works when I receive it.

Yes. It works fine; both Bluetooth and when I connect Iphone via Apple Play. Same music that does not play from USB. I have corrected the problem by converting all the files to .WAV and using a SanDisk Extreme Pro 3.2. Never had another problem I also had a Sandisk ! TB SSD drive - also no problem,.
