  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’ve been posting updates as have others on
the low speed vibration in Genesis G80s. As of today mine is still at the Dealer in Pittsburgh with less than 1000 miles on it. I finally contacted Genesis customer care and asked about a repurchase or Lemon Law adjustment. At first they seemed agreeable until I received a phone call yesterday informing me that they would not take any further action until Genesis issues a “TSB” on this well known issue. As such they were denying my repurchase request or my initial lemon law complaint. In the alternative they directed me to the Better Business Bureau dispute resolution system. They said they have countlessly replaced transmissions, drive shafts, tires and axles without any resolution to the problem and to continue to do so without a TSB from Genesis engineering in South Korea would be foolish.
I plan on pursuing this matter further but anybody waiting for an answer to this vibration problem will probably not receive anything in the near future.
I’ll continue to watch this forum for any updates anybody may have out there and continue to post future developments.

It's the driveshaft coupler. It hardens, vibrates when not loosened up yet, then smoothes out after warming up.

Keep us updated.

Thank you. I’ve seen that before but now Genesis engineering is telling us that the problem is not related to the driveshaft or the driveshaft components. Car has 800 miles on it. Been at the dealer for over 30 days now. ??? Still waiting. The loaner is worse.

Mine vibrates inconsistently. Hard acceleration smooth as butter. Mild to medium acceleration and it vibrates like crazy from 50-60

Does it get better after it warms up?

No that’s the weird part, hard acceleration and smooth sometimes. Slow to mid and it’ll shake 50-60. Other times smooth. I’m going to put tires on it. They’re all at4-5/32

So I have ordered new tires and done some more research on Tyne tire more specifically then the vehicle and there have been a few reports of the silencing foam on the inside of the tire coming loose, which makes complete sense for the condition I am experiencing. I’m going to have them save the tires for me so I can contact continental if this is what’s going on. I still have around 5/32 on each tire tread remaining they are not worn out

So here is the vibration One of my tires had the foam come loose inside. It was intermittently vibrating between 50-60 mph sometimes up to 70. Other times smooth as glass. I put a set of perelli tires on today and I’m going to contact my dealer and see if they can do anything with the bad tire due to the tire and wheel warranty I have. I have a 2020 G80 3.3 sport AWD. 3300 miles. At exactly 30 mph the car shakes, clearly coming from the rear. Took it to the dealer. Was told the cannot replicate the issue. So I took it back and told them it vibrates at 30 mph. To replicate this, I suggested driving the car to 30 mph and engage the cruise control. This way you can't miss. I also handed them a copy of a Service bulletin describing how to repair this very issue. They kept the car, and said they will do the TSB ( two washers under the center drive shaft support, have to order parts? ) . But on the repair order they wrote that I am having this problem because I am engaging the cruise control at too low a speed and straining the transmission. Went so far as to say it was designed into the car. ( see attached. ) So I got in the car, when up a hill in their parking lot, started down the hill, put the car in neutral, and at 30 mph vibration is back. No "strain " on anything. I went back inside and ask the service advisor to take a ride with me. He refused, saying he cannot leave his desk, he has customers coming in. ( I though I also was a customer) So I am going back yet again, to debunk this ridiculous diagnosis. I worked for Porsche and BMW when I was young. The car needs either a new drive shaft, or to have the shaft balanced. Several people have mention it is worse when cold, and that is true of my car. 37 degrees here this am, and it was shake rattle and roll. Genesis knows about this and I intend to keep after them until they fix it. I am attaching the TSB also.

I still have the problem too. Having Genesis USA handling my case right now. They had me bring it to dealer (fifth time) to diagnose. Of course they say it is the tires. They are to "hard" of a compound for this car even though they are on the Genesis recommended list! It is more noticeable when I first drive it in the morning or going to lunch.

Just can't believe they would try to blame it on lugging the engine due to cruise control. CC does not force it into any certain gear! What an idiot.

It just boggles my mind. I was polite but told him that was very implausible.

It makes me want to print out your work order and take it into that dealership, and say "I saw this work order on the Genesis forum and I'd like to meet the idiot who wrote it!". I won't, but yeah...

If the car is in 4th gear at 30 MPH without CC off, we all know it'll be in 4th gear with the CC on.

My car aggressively changes gears with CC on, when going up hills. It's more noticeable on the highway, but it indeed happens at slow (30 MPH) speeds.

I have a 2020 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate that I purchased new in 2020, and have the vibration issue as well. The dealership checked all suspension components, switched the tires to Michelin, and the new the tires now have flat spots after the car sits for 8+ hours. Currently have 10k miles on the odometer.

Took it back to the dealership and was told I was being “too picky”. Well….when I go to purchase another car I’ll be “too picky” and not purchase another Genesis. Genesis customer service has been uncooperative as well, but they sure love accepting our money during the sale.

If anyone has experience with a decent tire selection that seems to work on these cars I would love to hear about it.

My 2018 G80 Sport is the first vehicle I've ever owned that has noticeable tire flat spotting. There is vibration for the first few miles on cold tires (~<50F). I'm on my third set of tires from 3 different manufactures (Factory Conti's, Mich's and Continental DWS06's).

I chose a tire that had higher maximum load rating. The Factory Conti Procontact T/RX I had were rated at ~1477 lbs. The Mich's and DWS06's were rated at 1776 lbs. tirerack.com has a wealth of information for tire geek/fanatics. I liked the Mich's (AS 3+'s I think), but burned through them in about 28k miles. I used 3 sets of the Conti DWS06 on my previous 2011 Hyundai Genesis 3.8. They are working/wearing well after 15k miles on my 2018 G80 Sport.

I find keeping the cold tire pressure +2psi above (36 Front 40 rear PSI) manufacturers recommendation (34 Front 38 rear PSI) reduces the flat spotting some.

As far as I’m concerned the 2021s have vibration in the rear driveshaft area also. It’s a documented problem on the GV80s but not yet on a G80’s. I would avoid buying another G80 if I were you unless you I wish you live with what you have

I think this is the problem I'm having with my 2017 G80 AWD; it vibrates like crazy until it warms up. I'm going to try replacing the driveshaft coupler. Dealer gave me the can't duplicate, probably tire flat spotting routine. New tires, same as the ones on my wife's car which don't do it, I had the wheels straightened, 4-wheel alignment, etc.
