Lost Brake while having my kids in my 5.0

This is just some information about how manufacturers select which cars are recalled.

Car companies calculate how much it would cost to recall all vehicles that may have a safety problem.
Then they add up how much it has cost them for lawsuits and doctor/hospital cost, and how many projected failures there will be.
Whichever amount is the lowest makes the decision of which ever way to go. Recall or TSB.
By the way, there are recalls, and TSB s. A recall will be paid for by the manufacturer for all the cars that may have the problem. TSB's are Technical Service Bulletins for the shops. It helps them to find and fix some of the harder problems. This is paid by the manufacturer if it is still under warranty, otherwise the owner pays.

This is a true example. Ford trucks had a problem where a switch on the master cylinder would leak brake fluid into the switch and cause a small fire that would melt the plastic brake fluid reservoir and cause the brakes to fail. The switch was for the cruise control. There was a recall on the F150 and F250 but not on the F350. I questioned an upper level parts department man at Ford and was told that not enough people had been killed in the F350 to justify a recall. There just were not enough F350s with cruise control. They did issue a TSB for the F350.

The truck we were working on was my wife's nephew's. He did lose his brakes but was able to get it stopped.

Hyundai/Genesis may do the same with problems.

That makes sense if a compony only think about it financially.

Wow! This is very concerning. I am going to call MTO and complain. They are putting people’s life in danger by not issuing a recall. Every owner in Canada must know about that problem.
I just booked the recall for the ABS fuse issue and they said there was a TSB recall for the brake tube replacement...app 6 hr job. Located in Barrie, Ontario

I believe the fuse replacement recall is not as important as the brake line problem. They just don't want to do a recall for a several thousand repair job. The did a recall for a $20 fuse hopping that people bring their car in and they do an inspection on the brake lines while the car is in.

Can I ask what is the build date of your car Hammer dealership says mine is ok build date Dec 2014 hopefully they will inspect when they replace the fuses and don’t mess anything up I love this car on fire with no brakes what a ride 🚘🧯🚒😎

Mine just came back from an engine replacement and they didn't say anything. I'm in a non-salt-belt state... but the car is a salt belt car. I'm thinking I need to go tell them the car spent at least two service record provable years in Maryland.

This is a great example of the usefulness of a car forum! Living in the South, I probably have no corrosion, but an inspection will show that quickly enough. As the TSBs don't mention how one can tell the production date (I am used to seeing VIN number ranges), and my 2015 Sedan was bought in August of '15, just before the 2016 / G8 change.
Thanks for posting the two TSB's!! Very helpful indeed.

It’s right. This is why I love forums.
I also have some updates about my car repairs. It didn’t go as smoothly as you imagine.
So far I had to take it back to the dealership two more times since the initial repair.
I haven’t had my car for about 3 weeks!

Update from my side, it took between 2 and 3 weeks to complete the brakeline TSB repair. Seems to have gone smoothly. They noted corrosion was found. Glad they took care of it.

I was taking my kids to the ice cream store today. On the first stop sign I pushed the brake and it went all the way down. Fortunately car stopped. I turned back home (with crying kids in my car lol).
When I sopped at home EBD light came on. I checked the level of brake fluid and to my surprise the reserver was empty. Since I have not checked the level for 2 years I though maybe I was low on brake fluid. I added some but the brake pedal was soft. I though maybe there is air in the system. I decided to bleed the brakes.
While jacking the car up I saw a wetness in the middle of the car. The car was leaking brake fluid. I guess from the lines. I am not sure because it's covered with panels.
Has anybody seen something like this?
Trip from the Tire shop. After putting fresh winter tires, coming to red light, the brake pedal felt soft I didn't feel good so decided to safely pull over to a quite side street. With the engine running and in park. The brake pedal went all the way. Pumped once or twice AbS light warning! Looked under hood and under carriage. Saw break oil dripping over the lip middle cover, also found and checked the break oil reservoir is empty. IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE , NO RECALL NOTICE , NOTHING. Guys get your checked.
However I did receive the recall for the ABS fuse and called in for it be done, parts are back ordered. BUT THIS IS DANGEROUS.,
Towed the car over to local hyundai dealership.
Thank you Hamed57 for sharing your experience. Greekgeek thanks for the TBS.......

Will update with the dealer response.

Infact looked up the recall history for my vehicle. Except the emission and ABS saitch recalls, nothing on brake lines, corrosion, my report is attached.

From what it seems, my issue , is similar to that of Hamed57 .
Keep safe everyone.

Agree . 👍

I called the Corporate client line yesterday. I asked them why haven't you pushed a recall for this problem yet. People could be injured or killed if they lose their brake while they are driving.
They said we only push recall for safety concerns!!! For this problem we just have a service campaign.
Hmmmmm...
If enough owners call
It should not just be a service campaign.

Wow, glad to hear you were able to offroad safely. Pretty scary situation, please update us on Hyundai response and root cause of the failure.

My dealership replaced my brake line assembly under the recall too, after finding it was purchased in Maryland.

update:
MY 2015
3.8
139434 kms

The dealer called to confirm the cause: brake lines busted.
HCE21-41 P030-DH service campaign
parts ordered (under warranty)+++ install fresh brake lines under the car and also complete the two open recalls on top, while the car is at the shop.
1.Auxiliary Carbon Canister Install

2.Antilock Brake System Control Module.( switch.)

Earlier had called Hyundai Canada- (told them to stop playing around and do the right thing NOW !) and they probably spoke to the dealer. I went in to see the service manager today- they had the paper work ready. . ...... but never once did (H.O) send a recall letter or a safety warning service campaign information. I survived a close call. :)
thumbs up for Hamed57 and Greekgeek for their input. Much appreciated.
I will now call MTO as well.
Do yourself a favor: go get your brake lines checked.
