This is just some information about how manufacturers select which cars are recalled.
Car companies calculate how much it would cost to recall all vehicles that may have a safety problem.
Then they add up how much it has cost them for lawsuits and doctor/hospital cost, and how many projected failures there will be.
Whichever amount is the lowest makes the decision of which ever way to go. Recall or TSB.
By the way, there are recalls, and TSB s. A recall will be paid for by the manufacturer for all the cars that may have the problem. TSB's are Technical Service Bulletins for the shops. It helps them to find and fix some of the harder problems. This is paid by the manufacturer if it is still under warranty, otherwise the owner pays.
This is a true example. Ford trucks had a problem where a switch on the master cylinder would leak brake fluid into the switch and cause a small fire that would melt the plastic brake fluid reservoir and cause the brakes to fail. The switch was for the cruise control. There was a recall on the F150 and F250 but not on the F350. I questioned an upper level parts department man at Ford and was told that not enough people had been killed in the F350 to justify a recall. There just were not enough F350s with cruise control. They did issue a TSB for the F350.
The truck we were working on was my wife's nephew's. He did lose his brakes but was able to get it stopped.
Hyundai/Genesis may do the same with problems.
