New Genesis 3.8 Tech... Great deception caused by dealer...

Well... I've received my Genesis with great excitement on Friday morning! With the excitement of the moment, I did a tour of the car on the outside but not the inside at the dealership.

I was driving around this week-end and I noticed a small hissing noise. I also noticed a tear on one of the rear seats. I brought the vehicle in on monday and I should receive it tomorrow...

Turns out they tore the seat while treating the leather... and the hissing noise is due to a bend in one of the front mouldings most likely because of problems during preparation of the car... Now they said they fixed the leather (I haven't seen it yet...) and they have people coming in tomorrow morning to fix the mouldings...

This upsets me quite a lot as I have bought a new car but feel as though I'm getting a used one because of dealer mistakes... and as good as fixes can be, they can never be as good as factory installs.

What would be your take on this issue?
 
Depending on the skill of the upholstery shop they are having fix the problems, you probably won't be able to tell. If you can, you should insist on having them replace the entire seat.

Knowing that the interior was damaged will probably never go away, so hopefully you've expressed your outrage to the dealer (most especially if you paid for the leather treatment). And hopefully they'll do the right thing and recognize they screwed up and make it up for you. Things like free detailing or oil changes tend to soothe over the hurt.

Sorry to hear that happened. :( Hopefully they'll take care of it.
 
My take is probably your take: in your excitement you forgot what to do. It happens, they'll fix things, and you can go back to being excited again.

Yeah I told them... they told me they would clean up the car as if they where delivering it for the first time with detailing inside and out and such...

As you said, it's a feeling that won't go away... especially since it's inside and outside work...

I just hope this is the only problem's I'll have with the car...
 
When I take possession of a new car I go over it tooth and nail to make sure everything is perfect. Sometimes new cars get damaged during shipping and like in this case prepping. I found a dimple on a roof on a new car 10 years and I made replace the car before taking delivery.

Yep!

It is crucial you thoroughly inspect your vehicle before taking any sort of delivery. Make them pull it into the shop to inspect it if it's getting dark. The last thing you want to feel or have is liability for something you didn't even cause.
 
The sales person I dealt with thoroughly went over the car with me to make sure there was absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I found a very light scratch on the clear coat near the very bottom of the front bumper and they promised that they'll take care of it in no time.
They made sure that everything was taken care of before letting me take off with the car.

Dropped off the car the next day for that scratch and got a loaner for that afternoon.
Everything was perfect.

Probably the best car buying experience I've had.
Comparing your experience to mine, I'd demand everything I need to correct those issues.
I think those issues aren't that hard to fix, so hopefully your car looks better than new.
Make sure EVERYTHING is right before taking delivery. Good luck!

Unfortunately my experience with dealership is 70% bad (at least). Case and point. When I first got my car I noticed a shake at highway speed driving it home. I brought it in and they explained that the tire was defective. They ordered a new tire and I brought it in for the change on a different day. After I took it home and I went to wash the car I noticed that the rim that they took off now had a chip on the rim. They mishandled the tire. I mentioned it the next time I was there and they asked if I mentioned it at the time I received the car back. I of course did not so that was the end of that. Not a HUGE deal but still the car was brand spanking new.

Just this past weekend I went to change my oil (I had the last one done by another dealership to prove a different point). When I went to take off the oil filter cover, I noticed that the socket I bought (and used before) was loose. Well the one I had on there was a 25mm hex top and the one I had before was 27mm. Hmmmmm. They must of broken the one I had on there (original) and replaced it with one they had on hand. They failed to mention that when I got my car back. What else do they fail to mention while they work on your car and try to hide it.

It's very possible that the person treating the leather knew that they did something wrong but didn't say anything to not get in trouble.

I usually do everything myself because of those very examples. I wish I could install parts that go bad under warranty as well. Just give it to me and I'll do it. I know I'll be careful.

When I bought my car I told them to not wash it or do anything to it. They did anyway.

Anyway, sorry to hear about the back seat and molding. Hopefully you won't have to have them redo anything as that adds more time they have the car to screw something else up.

It's not worth taking your car to a place that will do your oil change for $9.99 and free rotations... You get what you pay for.

I have been going to my same service center for 14 years. Family owned and operated. The oil change is little more expensive but I know it will be done right and if anything would be out of order they would admit fault. They guided me when I needed new performance tires and gave me a choice of all my options. Not once have I felt cheated.

I trust no one to wash my car. When I go to the dealer I put green auto tape on the windshield that says DO NOT WASH(yes I have issues). Most of the scratching,hazing,micromarring of paint is caused by the washing/drying process.

I hate to let them touch it period...especially having seen how some people at dealerships treat cars. I am leaning towards skipping the first free oil change because of fear they will do it wrong (cheap oil...leave drain plug loose...etc.)

I would very closely inspect their leather fix. When I bought my used Acura the leather driver seat was torn where you get in and out of the car. The dealer said he had someone who specialized in fixing leather and it would cost about $150. The fix, was to fill the spot with vinyl...like those leather repair kits you see on infomercials. The first winter the fix cracked when I sat on the cold seat. I wish I had put the $150 toward the cost of a replacement used seat...or for a real leather upholsterer. The only proper way to fix leather is to replace the panel or the seat altogether.

The fix seems excellent... I had a concern it would crack as soon as the weather dips (we go down to -30C in winter down here). But the service manager at the dealership told me if it did they would replace the seat completely so I had her write it down on the work order just in case! Other than that, the moulding seems ok, I can't really tell they've done anything except for the streaks/hand prints they left on the windshield... I'm starting to see Mark_888's point, with the Equus on the way, I sure hope the amount of care in the service will go up a notch because as great as the car is, if I have to worry about the state my car is coming back in every time I go to the dealership, I'll most likely look elsewhere when it's time to change the second car...

Anyways, that's the end of my rant for the day...
