  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been waiting for this vehicle to come out from first photo's and information I saw. I was shocked when I went to the local Hyundai dealer to take a look at the new G70 and they already had 4 GV70's. All were fully loaded Sport/Prestige. I opted for the Saville silver with the black and red interior as shown in many of the on-line early reviews. It is really a stunning vehicle in person. The proportions are great for a "compact" SUV and the roof line seems a bit lower so it could almost pass for a "hot hatch".

I was going to wait until the 2.5 came out to compare but in today's insane car market ( new or used) I just took the leap. The test drive did me in. I will say it's not as aggressive feeling as the G70 or the Stinger I had for awhile. it's more of a luxury ride even with those huge 21" boots. Even in Sport + mode there is still a bit more body roll than I thought there would be but unless you are canyon carving the trade off in plushness is worth it. The 3.5 also seems more tame than the 3.3 in the G70/Stinger. You have to prod it more to get pushed back in the seat but it is silky smooth and I could tell immediately it was not a 4 banger. Hard to say if it is worth the extra dough for the 3.5 but I wanted all the options and the interior is just beautiful. They really paid attention to the design of this rig. The driving assist is scary good. Too good. You could almost take a nap before it asks for input. Lexicon stereo seems pretty good. I haven't had to the time to mess with the settings yet. I don't even know how many speakers there are. Sales guy said 17 but I don't think there are that many.

There's not much I would change, but on the Sport they should have gone with black/mirror caps and added some side exit vents to break it up a bit from the side view. I'm going to see if there is a way to do the mirrors. I didn't love the 21" wheels but they are growing on me with the dimples. I think the rear black area is too large and the huge round exhaust tips are a bit much but people will know what you are driving that's for sure. The hood over-hang in the front seems weird but it makes sense with the entire body line involved. It really is a pretty car. Love the front end treatment.

I'll report back with more miles. For now it's time to sit in the massaging seats and read the manual. The learning curve on this thing is a bit steep.

Leased it for 3 years as the trade-in I had was so strong I basically paid the whole lease upfront ( in fact they had to cut me a check!). Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Depends.. I figure the way things are going at 60 years old this will probably be the last high performance gas engine I will be driving. Unless I get a C8 Corvette.

Test driving will be dangerous to the wallet...

Congrats. We need to see some pictures.:)

Funny I dive a C8 Corvette and also looking at a GV70 when my dealer gets them. :-)

It's 108 outside now... needs to cool down a bit

I rolled it out of the garage using the party trick on the key fob. Pretty amazing. Might be a closer when leaving the bar with a new friend..

Love the Savile Silver. How are you liking the red interior? Is it a bit darker in real life than as shown in some pictures and videos?

I heard that Genesis was adding soft closing doors to the Prestige and it would have augmented reality. Any truth to this? Congrats on your new car.

No soft close on mine. The other omission at this price point is headlights that swivel with the turn. Even the Mazda's have that.

My bigger fault is no 12v in the dash area for my radar detector! It's only in the center console/arm rest and that dog won't hunt.

At first I dismissed the red interior because it seemed odd to have black seats and mostly red everywhere else but after driving the white with all black interior I went back and looked at it again and after watching the video's on-line I re-thought it. I am a little color blind but I would call it a medium red. It's a bit louder than it looks in pictures but the contrast with the cool carbon accents is pretty great. I like the red stitching on the steering wheel and the upper dash as well. I'd call it sporty and yet classy. Glad I got it now.

They also had a black on black in the showroom and while I love black cars you kind of miss the details both inside and out with that combination. And here in Phoenix that color would be a no go for me. It was down to white or the silver for me and they had it so I got it. Didn't love the white on this for some reason.

The salesman is ordering one with the mat grey ( forget what they call it) and while some cars look good in that ( like my old Stinger) some do not. Not sure how it will work with this.

Love that color, spouse wanted Red so went that way. The Prestige wheels are much nicer than the 19"s on the Advanced. Really pops on that silver. Was this Earnhardt?

Thanks for your post on my intro. . .this is a sweet looking combination. The silver has a complex tone to it.

I like red interiors if done right (the cayenne and sq8 both have red interiors).

Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on it as you drive it more

250 mile thoughts. I took couple of highway cruises at 70-80 mph. Very smooth although the tires don't seem to like the rain groves cut into the new freeway here. Kind of wobbly. I also need to figure out how to disable the lane keep annoying beep when the cruise control and LKAS are off. The thing is smooth although I do think smaller wheel/tire set up would be smoother. The choice is looks or comfort. They do look good though.

Manual says to keep the rev's between 2000 and 4000 rpms during break in but that seems impossible even in comfort mode. The thing grabs gears and holds on with any real throttle input. I have to keep it out of sport+ for awhile. Couple things I would change. Paddle shifters are a bit small like my old Stinger but I have small hands. Bigger and real metal would have been nice. I see myself using them frequently. This exterior color would have looked better with black mirrors like the side trim and the roof rails. Kind of an oversight there on the Sport trim. It will take awhile to learn to not reach for the shift wheel instead of the infotainment knob. I will use the knob more than the touch screen as it's a bit of a reach while driving. Love the screen set up. Low and wide as opposed to the huge almost square versions I am seeing out there. The digital dash is pretty great I must say. The non- digital is also very good so I wouldn't feel like I missed something so significant. I don't see how the "eye camera" will work for me as the top of the steering wheel blocks it in my preferred position. I have not messed with the 3D adjustment yet. HUD is good as long as your not wearing polarized glasses which is a drag.

I got 22.5 MPG at 70 MPH for 20 miles and I think that's good considering the salesman told me they ship them on the "rich side"and don't expect real MPG until a few tank fulls are run through. Not sure about that. So far I kind of like the suede inserts on the seat's. It was 115 degrees here today and they are cooler than all leather I would imagine. The seat vents are very strong. Excellent.
So is the massage function. The suede will demand careful care and there will be no food in this car and water will be the beverage of choice.

The center console where the dials are is a finger print magnet along with the climate controls and the steering wheel controls. Same with the touch screen of course. Really like the Sport steering wheel. Too bad it's not the standard wheel in all trims. That was a miss by Genesis. I can see the two spoke in the GV80 and the big sedan but to each their own.

I took some very tight corners at 10-20 over posted and it was very buttoned down. I could feel the eLSD doing it's thing as the rear end stepped out a bit. Handles well for a heavy/ taller vehicle. I do not think sport or sport+ changes the suspension that much but it's early to tell. More seat time needed. I do think the eLSD is important if you want to "drive it like you stole it". Other than that the AWD system is great on it's own.

So far it's what I thought it would be if a bit on the pricey side, but hey there are guys spending 70-90k on domestic pick-ups these days so it is what it is. Nothing is cheap anymore.

More to come..
