If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

I feel like specific review timing is not that important for manufacturers since most people do research when they're ready to purchase, which will be months or years from now for most people. It also seems like Canada started getting GV70s before the U.S., so imagine American reviews are not too far behind. Possible they could also want the 2.5T to be reviewed since it will be the engine most people go with.
I think it all came down to Genesis delivering these vehicles to showrooms way sooner than they thought. Initially the information was that it would not be out until late summer and then whoops they arrive in early June. They had to pick an embargo date and they guessed wrong. It is very strange to have a full month ( or more) that a new model is on sale this far in front of the national reviews like Car and Driver and Motortrend. The new Acura S type TLX was in reviewers hands way before it hit dealerships.

Barossa Burgundy this guy does a decent review. Even demos locking kids in car. One advantage to viewing more reviews is sometimes they point out unique features that you didn't know before. After all 647 pages of reading an owners manual is not as fun. (ie., you can adjust the speed of the hatchback motion, keyless only on front doors, customizing / fine tune Driver Assistance settings to your driving style, etc)

Doubtful as automakers like having their top spec reviewed, plus it's been about 2 months and still no press fleet reviews of the 2.5T Stinger.

Also, takes longer for the press fleet to make its rounds here as opposed to up north.

A good but more reviewers and spread out across the country.

Figure Genesis Canada mostly had to transport the press fleet to Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Anyone know when the US press embargo is lifted on a vehicle that's been out for a month?

Still nothing in the US review wise?

Totally unrelated, but what % tint did you go with on your GV70?
Not sure. The dealer installed it as they do on just about every car here in Arizona where the sun shines 320 days a year. It's also fully legal here. You can go full black out here with no police issues. They charged $399 for two windows which on the high side. It looks to be just a tad lighter than the OEM glass on the rear side windows.

Trim names and levels are completely different as well as pricing. The husband and wife tag team are burying it because according to them it is "far more expensive than the Germans". That is not the case in America. I don't find the Canadian You Tubers as informative as the top American reviews like SG and Alex on Auto's. They screw around too much and are trying to be funny which they are not.
^ yeah, there are several trim and pricing discrepancies between US and CAD markets. Driving impressions, etc, are all still valid between markets for the most part.

zack spencer and his wife are bang on about pricing of upper trims in CAD though, and with the opinion that the 2.5T models will be volume sellers (I know they aren’t the only ones saying this). The 3.5T models are just too expensive up in CAD. They’ll sell some, for sure, especially to those wanting the new kid on the block or who fall in love with the styling and want all the bells and whistles just because. But Genesis is still a value play, and at the top trims the perceived value is just not there anymore - at least up North.

Like zack said, if this was the 2nd or 3rd gen GV70 after it had established its market share then sure, bump up pricing closer to ‘z Germans’. But they’ve done it too soon. Should they have to discount their pricing based on quality/reliability/overall packaging? Heck no, the GV70 is a legitimate contender with outstanding features. But the brand is still in its infancy, the GV70 is brand new, and the retained value forecasts are an indicator of current brand perception. Genesis needs to account for this and price their models accordingly to win market share (like they did with the G70), otherwise the vast majority of lemmings buyers out there will keep driving past Genesis stores (figuratively- CAD has online sales model) and on the the big 3 with their lots full of boring white/black/silver usual suspects.

$75,500 is simply too much for a loaded GV70 up here. Clearly the story is different in the US with different trim pricing which probably helps...unless dealers are gouging with over-MSRP pricing!

Side note (sorry for OT) - i met Brian (this reviewer) at that track day in the Vancity area which he shows a clip of drifting around an auto cross course. It was a “VIP” event for the G70 launch put on by the local Genesis experience managers, i think for all those who had placed pre-orders. Genius idea by Genesis and it was a blast. We beat the hell out of those G70’s but they held up very well on a hot day (for us). At the end we each took a ride with one of 7 pro drivers, several of which were drift circuit guys. Fun to see what the G70 could handle. Aside from a bit more body roll than ideal, the stock G70’s ate it up and the AWD systems allowed lurid slides and drifts with all the nannies shut off.

haven’t heard of any similar events by Genesis for the GV70 - it’s aim is different - but we did get a half baked launch event out at the airport to check out a KDM spec GV70. Obviously COVID impacted what Genesis could do this time around...

Would you believe 3 Gv's in 6 months! (2 GV80's one GV70)
It started in January when my wife said her Palisades was to big. It was a great car all the bells and whistles that Hyundai had available. We were going to take a new Santa Fe for a ride. We had a Santa Fe before the Palisades. Anyway it felt like a toy compared to the Palisades and frankly the old Santa Fe also.
Well there was a GV80 in the show room. I had been waiting for this car to come out since my first Genesis back in 09. But there it was. We took one out for a drive liked it now to decide on trim. There was about 12k in dealer BS tacked onto the price. Since I had purchased three cars from this dealer they did some dealing. But not a lot.
Took the car home and by the time I got there I hated the car. Seats seemed "short" no HUD no 360 cameras, these were all thing we had in our Palisades.
Left the car in the garage drove back in another car to keep the mileage down.
To upgrade to what I wanted they wanted 15k more. I said no and would live with my car.
Took the car on a trip North 1100miles on I-95. Car mechanically was great. But uncomfortable as hell. I could dive almost hands off with the cruise and lane guidance system. But by the time we arrived at our destination I hated the car. The day after I arrived I went to the local Genesis dealer (who had sold me a 2012 Genesis). Asked what they could do for me. They had a GV80 AWD 2.5L HUD, and magic seats (don't know the official name). So for an additional 15k I got a car I thought I wanted. Drove in home 1,100 and the magic seat and HUD saved the day.
Home a few months and had to borrow a G70 while they did some body work on my other car. I got to keep it over night. I also asked a neighbor to let me drive his Stinger for comparison. And I preferred the Stinker with 70K miles on to the G70 which was a disappointment.
Next day I went to return the the G70 and my wife came along. Went into the Dealership and saw the GV70 on the floor. She wanted to take it for a ride. She loved it. I liked it. 3.5 AWD, sport package everything I wanted.
So we bought it trading the GV80. Very happy with the purchase. Now have to wait for the after market to come up with a trailer hitch and Weather tech floor mats.
PS Had installed trailer hitches on my previous GV80. I am realy getting good at it, so guess I will get to do it again once they are available.

This is fine with me. It turns me off that GLCs are everywhere now…

jaybar that is an incredible story. And I thought I needed a 12 step program for my auto addiction ( 38 vehicles in 40 some years of driving). So did you not like the GV80 because it didn't have all the tech as the top trim and it had the smaller motor? It typically gets great reviews and was Motor trends car of the year last year. It's also closer in size to the Palisade I would imagine which is why that would not be for me as a retired single guy I just don't need that big a vehicle. Glad the GV70 came your way and hopefully you didn't get killed in all those transactions. The price gouging that is going on out there is just ridiculous. I paid ( leased) at full MSRP and oddly feel like I got a "deal". How warped is that?

Also interesting was your comparison between the Stinger and the G70. I was on the fence between those two a couple of years ago and went with the Stinger because I liked the additional space/hatchback and I thought it looked better. I loved that Stinger GT but it had to go due a back injury so the GV70 was it's replacement. So far I really like it.

Well the G70 was a base model. 3.3T engine don't remember if it was AWD or not. But when you consider the cost of the Stinger I didn't feel the G80 was any better and it cost more.
Funny story I was selling my C7 Corvette stoped into the KIA dealer. I knew my Vet would bring 52K (cause the Chevy dealer next door offered to pay that an hour before). They had a Stinger in the show room. White same as the Vette, I think the price was 52K. Walked around the car, walked around the show room. Lot of people at desks looking at computers but no one offered to help me, Even the receptionest ignored me. So went across the street to the Genesis dealer, and looked around their used car lot saw a BMW 540i xdrive. They took my corvette and gave me 10K change which I used to make up some of the cash I needed on the first Genesis

I just watched Redline reviews new review of the G70. He commented on waiting to get the new GV70 to test a couple of times. That said we apparently won't be seeing US reviews very soon. So weird.

Thanks! Your back windows looked a lot darker than factory so must just be the lighting. I was thinking you did all your windows. I was gonna have them match front windows to the back tint and tint my windshield! Here it's legal with a doctors note so I have my ophthalmologist write me a script because of my "sensitive blue eyes" lol

Totally unrelated, but what % tint did you go with on your GV70?
the rear at least on mine in US is approx 20% which is what im going to go with on fronts

He also said that he just got out of the TLX Type S, which was weeks ago. So this was probably filmed a while ago and was a queued up release, especially since it's not an all new vehicle. He could've driven the GV70 since then.

Don't feel bad I'm on 45 cars and 3 motorcycles and now waiting for number 46 GV70. :-)

Random question for owners. Is the rear seat center arm-rest supposed to unfold all the way to the seat bottom or is it supposed to stop in a straighter position? I thought mine did but when I unfolded it yesterday is went limp all the way to the seat and didn't look right.

How far back are the seats reclined, mine is straight with how far my seats are reclined. It does appear limp the less reclined the seats are for me though
