  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Other cool cars like the G70

I don't think a V8 engine will add much to a car that many rank near the bottom of the hierarchy of sports sedans. Their auto transmission is also very dated and way beind the competition, including the G70. I am sure it will sell well given the large fanbase and also the nostalgia factor, but real performance won't be its merit until Lexus releases a full F version.

Reliability would only be really important for used owners, alas most buyers are leasing their sports sedans so they won't give 2 craps about it. It's not like the G70 or any of the germans are horribly unreliable for the first 3 years. I give Lexus credit for their service but you spend like 3 to 4 hours a year for service there so not much to it.

I am not saying the G70 is perfect either and all honesty if I had to replace my G70 I'd prolly go to a m340i for that sweet inline 6. But I don't think the IS500 is going to be all that special, and many enthusiasts are going to be disappointed (kind of hinted at by savagegeese near the end of the video). It will still sell well given the large fanbase for lexus but most enthusiasts will likely pass it over for other sports sedans.
Yeah, by the time I'm done paying for my G70, as "conventional" as it is (especially in Texas), honestly I'll probably take a good, long, look at the blue and white propeller logo as well. I love the m340i, but I will probably go back to the dimensions, luxury, and comfort of a G80, E-class, or 5-series.

The biggest rival to the IS500 won't be the likes of the 3 Series or G70, it'll be the plethora of used GS-F's being sold that have the same powertrain setup. And Lexus is one of the few luxury brands where one can buy used with complete confidence.

IS500 honestly just feels like an attempt by Lexus to empty out the GS-F parts bin. It's actually missing a lot of features from the GS-F like the torque-vectoring rear differential too.

Have you seen the Nissan 400z reveal?

Long story short: based on the same platform as previous 370z, using the 3.0 twin turbo from the Q50/60 Red Sport, and has a 6spd manual.

To me it sounds like they cut a lot of corners; though, I'm sure there's a lot more to it than I'm giving it credit for.

It looks sharp, I'm curious about the weight.

I personally don't get it... It just seems like a newer 370Z to me... Seems backwards to the rest of the industry in terms of innovation and moving towards the future. Maybe that's the point?

I posted a thread a long time ago when i let it go. Here...

Oh boy, I think that story just prevented my from buying a Genesis. The warranty stuff was one thing, but the struggle with the service dept completing an oil change properly and the other significant leak at 10K miles is a major red flag/turnoff! Like you said, even if covered under warranty, what are the odds it would have been done right. That’s an issue of initial quality and for people that don’t lease and keep their vehicles a long time! Any chance that leak could have been due to mods/hard driving?

Absolutely not. After watching my first oil change video, which was done at around 1,000 miles (also, before any mods) there were already signs of leaking (@Slip_Angle 's keen eye saw it). It was, without a doubt, a quality control/manufacturing defect.

SMH! Makes me want to just go the safe/vanilla route and just buy a Toyota/Honda, or a Lexus. I have owned an Accord and/or Toyota pickup for the last 30 years. The reliability just gets boring. LOL

Agreed. I wonder if that was the point all along, or if it was about cost, or maybe both? Either way. I'm not that excited about it. The style is pretty dang convoluted as well. It's like they just took design cues from all the previous Z's and just cobbled them together without any thought. :/

Honestly, I'd rather get one of the new BRZ/86 twins over this thing. Smaller, lighter, cheaper, and it still has 4 seats - all while looking better. And, with the money savings you could turbo it and have just as much power.

Don't let my crappy experience stop you from buying the car you ultimately want, though. I think the majority of members here have loved their cars, all while having had good experiences with their local dealers.

That said, if you still want one, go and chat with your dealership. Ask the service department about valet services, oil changes (ie what kind of oil they use), etc. Some dealers have gone above and beyond, while others are total assholes. I'd say that if you've got a rock solid dealership, then go for it!

Yep, he had a terrible experience. However, mine has been 100% the opposite both in reliability and service.

That’s good to know. What do you guys think about the GV70 as a bigger and more practical version of the G70 for those looking for an SUV, as well as the 2.5T vs 3.5T engine options?

I've been in one (not moving) and it was gorgeous. The performance in terms of handling and acceleration will be less than the G70 but maybe it would suit you just fine. You really need to test drive them.

There is a thread on Bimmer post called "Type-S vs. M340i". They absolutely trash the Acura and post after post they almost universally say the same thing. If you want a car for less money then the M340i, there is no better option then the G70.

Respect M340i owners!

I’ll take a new IS 500 over a used GS-F for the same, or likely more, money.

Seeing how much of a bummer the Type-S is leads me to believe that the new Integra will have the same result. I mean, what happened to Honda? They used to make such fun drivers cars! Now, their effort to bring back the past has just been a major letdown.

On another note, some rumors about the upcoming M2 are sounding interesting, if they make this thing with AWD as an option it will be a game changer.

I'm still leaning towards the Audi RS3, but this news is making me hesitate.

Ohhh, that M2 does sound tasty! (As does the RS3)

I agree with the Integra. I bet the Civic Si or Type R will be faster. Honda/Acura need to stop looking in the rear view mirror and start looking through the windshield to the future. Even just the fact they refuse to go rwd or rwd based awd is just dumb for certain vehicles.

It's fun to watch all of these new cars come out! Especially as the electric wave of cars come because they push the performance for ICE since the base power for electric is so much higher. I really don't know what my next car will be but I'm thinking electric right now... my mind certainly could change though! The great news is that my G70 is awesome with the Ark GT-F springs for handling and the Lozic ECU/TCU for power!

Coming from a knowledge base of zero here: What tuning is possible or probable for Tesla and similar electric autos. I could investigate the Tesla pages but lazy now. From my experts here I would trust.

My understanding is that Tesla's and other electric vehicles are locked down. No ability to mod or make them faster.

Yes you can. There is a Canadian company that’ll give you 50 hp for just over $1k.

Apparently musk has allowed it.

The cars get over the air updates…but apparently the tunes continue to work.
