Yeah, by the time I'm done paying for my G70, as "conventional" as it is (especially in Texas), honestly I'll probably take a good, long, look at the blue and white propeller logo as well. I love the m340i, but I will probably go back to the dimensions, luxury, and comfort of a G80, E-class, or 5-series.I don't think a V8 engine will add much to a car that many rank near the bottom of the hierarchy of sports sedans. Their auto transmission is also very dated and way beind the competition, including the G70. I am sure it will sell well given the large fanbase and also the nostalgia factor, but real performance won't be its merit until Lexus releases a full F version.
Reliability would only be really important for used owners, alas most buyers are leasing their sports sedans so they won't give 2 craps about it. It's not like the G70 or any of the germans are horribly unreliable for the first 3 years. I give Lexus credit for their service but you spend like 3 to 4 hours a year for service there so not much to it.
I am not saying the G70 is perfect either and all honesty if I had to replace my G70 I'd prolly go to a m340i for that sweet inline 6. But I don't think the IS500 is going to be all that special, and many enthusiasts are going to be disappointed (kind of hinted at by savagegeese near the end of the video). It will still sell well given the large fanbase for lexus but most enthusiasts will likely pass it over for other sports sedans.
