  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Bugs & Other Issues

LFA is essentially a more advanced LKA. LFA continuously controls steering to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane (as long as all the road conditions are met). LKA may have the tendency to allow the vehicle to drift from one lane marker to the opposite lane marker whereas LFA will keep the vehicle in the center of the lane.

I’ve wondered the same thing.

Don't buy if you come from a luxury car like Lexus, Bimmer, Merc... I am sure you wont find the quality and the service like other luxury brands. The car is cheaper than other equivalent cars but everything comes with cost. I hate my GV80 after the first week of driving. The suspension is too stiff even in Comfort mode. Actually, the suspension is the same in any mode. I bet no one tells the difference between the modes. It telegraphs the road defects on my butt. Instead of blocking the road noise, it converts the noise to rumble noise and transfers it to the cabin. The radiator fan is loud when it ridiculously turns on. The seat, the steering wheel vibrate when I am on highway due to stiff suspension. Note: It hard to detect the problems from the beginning since Genesis dealers will let you test drive for only few miles with an almost empty tank. The seats are also firmed. Only two front doors have touching sensors to lock or unlock. Other driving assist features are only beautiful in theory but useless in practical. You will have to touch your hands to the wheel when it drives thru a pot hole, a curved road. The service is even far behind other luxury brands. They treat you like Hyundai customers. You will spend a lot of time to wait, to fight for every problem you have.

I am getting ready to purchase the GV80 and would appreciate inputs from new owners regarding problems experienced with the vehicle. Thanks.
I have had our GV80 since Feburary 2021 and have almost 8,000 miles on it. Overall the car has been really solid, working well. I have the 3.5 Prestige package and while the overall power is pretty good, the transmission software is really sub-par. I sold off my Audi SQ5 which had a PERFECT transmission, always in the right gear at the right time, so this transmission that can't make up it's mind is frustrating. I can solve it by putting it into Sport Mode, but the fuel economy suffers. So that is my biggest pain point, transmission. I suspect it could be fixed with better software tuning, but not sure if it's on their radar or not. The rest of the car is really well done, super solid, tight and smooth. Electronics are well sorted and the safety features are all helpful if someone intrusive, but they can be disabled if you like. The "auto steering" is pretty vague around corners, it works and you stay in your lane, but it wanders around more than it should. Good car, great value, buy one.

Great points about the suspension and service. I had a Range Rover Sport that really changed the suspension when you changed modes, the GV80 never changes anything about it's handling which is set to "wallow", not really setup for sport driving at all. Also agree about the Service, they really don't know how create a luxury experience to match the Genesis buyers. Our Las Vegas dealer is trying hard, but they literally have ONE GUY that deals with Genesis stuff, so he is overworked.

How long have you had your GV80? I'm approaching 12K miles on mine and am pretty impressed with it. I spent a bunch of time researching the specs, features and drove a couple of demos before buying. Heading in for my second service next week and haven't needed anything but the scheduled service done. I'll admit the Maintenance Service experience is a bit lacking for a premium vehicle.

Not sure which model you have but I don't think any of them have an active suspension that changes with the Drive Mode. What changes is the steering response, shift points and power distribution (AWD). Oh, the Driver Seat will change bolstering when you choose Sport Mode.

Yep. I joined Genesis about 3 weeks ago after ten years with Mercedes. I already regretted and missed the Merc service so much. In my situation, I bought the GV80 three week ago and I think it is a lemon. On the first trip, it vibrated with a whoop noise around 70mph. It can be a tire or a driveshaft problem. The dealer acknowledged the problem but promise to rebalance the tires next week. I did a research, it turns out Genesis is known with vibration due to an unbalanced driveshaft. If this is the case, it will be horrible way for me to go. Regarding the suspension, the service manager confirmed that the suspension won't be noticeably changed between driving modes. In fact, I can feel the difference in transmission but not in suspension at all. Genesis service is even worse. It is not even close to a regular car service like Toyota, Honda. Genesis seems to backlog everywhere. You will have to wait days for every problem you have. When I tried to book a service for the vibration problem online, the next available slot is 28 days from now. I had to drive back to the dealer to complain. They tested drive and gave me another appointment for tire balancing which is 9 days from now. Holy cow.

I got it three week ago. The car is currently less than 500miles. Same as you, I did a month research before biting the bullet. I agree that GV80 is beautiful from inside out and loaded with full of cutting edge features, but I don't think the ride quality gets any closer to a luxury car. Or maybe we have different taste.

We came out of a Porsche Macan (2nd one) and have found the GV to be ideal. 5k miles, two road trips, and preparing for another road trip of 3k plus coming up. So far, we love it, plenty of room, superb ergonomics, and a pleasure to drive. No complaints, rides great, and handles well, not Porsche canyon carving handling but more than adequate given size and weight. We've not looked back.

Just thought I would add an update.

Trade In Process
Working with my Dealership to get a decent and fair trade-in value has been to my surprise, a great experience. They understood my situation and of course they started low but was easy enough to haggle up with no added stress. Of course this whole situation sucks, but it is what it is. I ended up getting into a GV80 Advanced 2.5T with an approximate loss of around $4,500 dollars.

I am hoping the new vehicle gives me a better experience and I look forward to getting the real experience I hope Genesis wanted for their customers. I take delivery of the vehicle hopefully early June.
I’m wondering who got your trade in and if the dealer fixed any of the remaining issues before selling it! 😳😬

Good question. I am just hoping the dealership passed on my loss and only marked up a couple grand. Though I will say after the rear axle was repalced the ride was smoother, not perfect and I did hear they put a new battery in it.

Thanks for the rundown! What kind of mileage are you getting? Which model do you have?
I have the 4 cylinder 2.5L AWD Advanced and I must say the gas mileage is terrible. Have only about 1500 miles on it.
Just checked it as it seemed like I wasn’t going very far before needing a top up. So- my last refill used 15.76 US gallons and I went 228 miles- so- 14.47 MPG which is ridiculous. 80% city drive. The Government website for MPG says it should be 21 city and 25 Hwy. something wrong there. I am not hard on the gas pedal either. I was using Premium and it was worse the first 1000 miles so switched to regular.
Car still runs great. As my wife says- if you can afford the car you can afford the gas. Besides that this is the best SUV we ever owned. Drove Lexus RX350 for 17 years and Jag F Pace for 4. Much better than both. Quietest car ever and a Navigation System that is fantastic. You can actually talk to this car and it recognizes what you say. We have 5 years maintenance included in Canada so I guess that makes up for the gas. Plus- Audi BMW and Mercedes will cost you at least 10K more with same features. Their real gas mileage is probably better but not by much and on Premium gas. You can use regular on the GV80

I have the 4 cylinder 2.5 Advanced here in Canada. I came off 17 years of Lexus RX350 and 4 years of a disaster Jaguar F Pace that was in the shop 15 times. My GV80 is the quietest and softest suspension I ever had. I say better than Lexus.
If you want to open all the doors you have to touch the handle twice. Navigation is awsome especially against any Lexus.
Yes- I agree that service from the other Luxury guys are much better. Lexus was awesome for me. All the features work great for me on GV80. Yes- you are supposed to keep your hands on the wheel but it does what it’s supposed to do.
No car is perfect. I ordered a Mercedes GLE before this and didn’t take delivery. They think I bought the car and I have received 3 recalls on it in less than a year. Quality? Hmmmm.
Lexus will give you quality but they are still in the year 2010 with technology. They have a long way to catch up.
My GV80 just glides over any bumps and pot holes.

Mine wasn't getting great gas mileage until I took it out on a few road trips. Now that I'm over 1500 miles it's averaging 20 around city even without taking a trip on that same tank of gas. So it just needs to get broken in I think before you see better gas mileage.

You can set this in setup so that they all open with one touch of the driver's door handle if you'd prefer.

I agree on the service. Until they actually have a dedicated Genesis dealer and you have to go through a Hyundai dealer- the service won’t be there. Seems like once you buy it you are on your own. My dealer doesn’t answer emails or follow up on service issues. Learned more from this Blog than the dealer knows. Had a Navigation issue that they had to put a ticket in as they couldn’t figure it out. Ticket was done in March. Someone on this blog told me there was a software update in April. Did it and problem fixed. Dealer still hasn’t contacted me.
You may have a Lemon as my last car was a Jaguar F Pace.
Was at the dealer 15 times for engine lights which were various problems. They put over $15 K in new parts over 4 years. Exhaust system . Turbo Charger and on it went. Dealer was great but car was a Lemon. It happens. Mine was first year model. I’m sure there are some GV80 Lemons out there in this first year. There is protection available from some government agencies on Lemons. Check it out.

Thanks. Will look for it in set up. We all learn new things on this site. Cheers

Setup → Vehicle Settings → Door → Two Press Unlock

Turn off two press unlock for all doors to open on one press.

I didn’t have time to look it up earlier. But had a few minutes now.

Thanks. That’s encouraging. Hope mine gets up to that too.
Will keep track for awhile. In November we take a 2200 mile drive to our winter home in Phoenix so that will be a good run and hopefully get well broken in.
