  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What surprises have you "found" in your car...

Is it safe to assume most cars have this?? Every car I've ever owned has had this, except my 1993 Taurus Wagon.

Perhaps. I've never noticed it. Most I've seen just have the filler door with the latch hook. The Genesis, helpfully, has "HOLDER" stamped in the area, which is the only reason I figured it out. ;)

I hate this as well. I plan on picking up a piece of tint scrap from a shop and putting it on the IP glass over the headlight and foglight lights so it is not so bright.

My fix for that is just to tilt the steering wheel such that it blocks those lamps from view ;)

Ha, yeah I tried that, but then my steering wheel is so low it cuts off other parts of the IP. I don't mind the lights, just that they are too bright, so I figures I'd make sure they looked dimmer.

I disconnected the gas cap from the lanyard so I can stick it in the pump handle. Makes it so I don't have to hold the pump when gassing up.

Hmmm, I take it that your local pumps either don't have the hold-open clip or they've been broken off?

Ya know what... I think its Mass state law for gas stations to remove them. Every once in a great while you'll pull up to a new station that has them. Its been this way for a long time. Every time I venture out of state though, I embrace this luxury!

There are a lot of towns and cities that ban the hold-opens. It is always a surprise to find that they are missing.

Interesting. I suppose I'll chalk that up to the similar puzzlement about the states that don't allow self-service gas pumping.

I also guess that explains why there are patents on portable devices to hold open the handle...though I'd say that Ashdump's solution is plenty ;)

After 7 months, my car has suddenly started to emit a high warning whistle whenever I sit at a long traffic light with the turn signal blinking. Until last week, this had never occurred. The car has not been to the dealer, so I have no idea why this has changed. Is there some option for turning this feature on and off that I don't know about?

Try turning off the parking assist sensor to see if it's related to that. The only time I have that problem at a light is when someone crosses in the crosswalk too close to the bumper.

I second that opinion. Anything that gets too close to the front or corner (like a car sitting next to you in a lane) can set off the park assist beeps. I'm caught off-guard every time!

Just noticed this on Saturday, not sure if this is Genesis specific however i was listening to the St. John's Vs. Villanova game on xm radio and i noticed the score is diplayed on the bottom of the screen and it's updated quite frequently. This is a nice feature

It's an XM thing. They change the "song title" to reflect the score on sports programming.

:DI "found" 58 cents under the drivers seat that had slid out of my pocket!

Some of these might have been caputured here (but the thread is getting huge!). I just took delivery this week and in addition to the surprises I've read, here are a couple:

- Battery in the trunk! With a nicely placed and packaged set of terminal posts under the hood for boosting as required.

- Partial 'easy access' feature, even without having the Tech Pkg. Steering wheel moves out of the way when ignition turned off, and moves back to last position when you start the car again.

- A nice voice command tip/trick for the audio system I just found. Using voice command, you can of course say scan or seek and it will work it's way through every available channel BUT, you can also say 'Scan Presets', and it will scan JUST across your presets giving you a 5 second or so sample of what's on each your fave stations you've programmed in. Nice touch.

I got luck i guess. I had a great delivery, despite it was very late sunday night! The only surprise I have discovered is the valet switch inside the glove box. Other than that its been "christmas morning" (as one poster wrote) every day with all the guizwatchies and levels of adjustment.

Can you expand on the this 'feature'? Are you saying that that there is another car battery in the trunk ? Or a set of terminal posts that are hooked up to the battery under the hood?:confused::confused::confused:

i have rattles galore, please help!

What he means is the battery is located in the trunk, for balance and packaging, but there are terminal posts under the hood for jumping the car (so you don't have to open the trunk and remove panels to get to the battery.) This is how all cars I've seen do it, when the battery is located in the trunk. I've even seen battery charging terminals in the front when the battery was located in the front, but less accessible.

There is a thread on rattles...but I don't know that there is much specific info on fixing them. The only rattle I have is the rear sunshade when hitting sharp bumps. I recall someone posting that there sunshade was replaced because of rattles.

I wanted to bump this thread because I think the info is valuable and many, including myself, have never seen it. Thanks to TJPark01 and Gunkk for mentioning this thread recently. I didn't know about the battery posts under the hood or that the rear lights blink when the trunk is closed (with the car doors locked only).

Today I was driving with the radio off and I accidentally touched the XM button near the DIS knob. That button turns the radio on. Not that I'll ever use that button to turn the radio on, but it was something I didn't know.
