If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Took delivery of my GV70 two weeks ago and my battery has died twice. Has any one had a similar problem? When I saw the car in the showroom, the tailgate wouldn't open for me to inspect it and the salesperson said it was because the battery was dead from sitting in the showroom. I took delivery of the car and was assured the battery was well charged. The car sat in my driveway for a few days and it died. I had to call Genesis Roadside Assistance for a charge on a Saturday to get it back to the dealership. They installed a new battery at my insistence, only to have that one die exactly two weeks later. They are now going to run diagnostics after the Labor Day weekend. Asked me where I store the key. Evidently if it is too close to the car the computer never shuts off and can drain the battery. Any one have a similar problem?? Hope I didn't buy a lemon.

Is that actual battery "life," or is that battery charge level? If it is battery charge level, then everything is probably alright. As a fuel economy measure, they only try to keep the battery charged to about 80%. If the charge level is estimated to be less than that, the alternator is turned on, or if you are going down hill or braking, the alternator is turned on. If you make a long down hill drive, you could hit 100% charge. (This is what i have read, not what I personally know to be true.)

I don’t what it means, but what you have read makes sense. Would you send me the article or a link so I can read it?
Thanks

This is a generic (not Hyundai specific) description of the setup.

Thanks. This makes total sense now.

Two days after I took my 2022 G70 home I was in my garage fiddling with all the electronics in an attempt to customize the set up. I had the ignition on without the engine for no more than 10 minutes. A message I didn't pay attention to because it made no sense to me given the circumstances said the battery was in danger of discharge and recommended starting the car. Because I didn't heed the seemingly nonsensical warning the car went completely dead with multiple lights displayed. Genesis roadside had to come and tow my G70 from my garage. The dealer claimed the battery was drained.

After I got the car back from the servicing dealer I again spent less than 10 minutes trying set up the Homelink garage door opener and customize the electronics. Once again, a message popped up on the dash that the battery was in danger of discharging. I immediately started the car in fear of a repeat disabling. I also put a battery tender on it but it showed it was charged and okay.

Incidentally, my son had a 2021 G70 as a loaner a couple weeks previously and said he received the same battery drain message.

I am both baffled and very concerned that there is an underlying electrical issue with this vehicle. It appears others on this forum may have had similar experiences. I would be very grateful for any insight or understanding as to what may be occurring here.
HI Obadiah,

Well, join the club!!! I have a G70 3.3T from 2020 and had to boost the car about 8 times already!!! Was owning Mercedes before and never had the kind of issues I have been having with this G70 battery. Indeed, you CAN'T listen to the radio for over about 30 min without having the car running, or take a call on your cell through the hands-free feature without draining the battery. Had to get it boosted a couple of times because it sat in my driveway without being used for a couple of weeks while I was on vacation... Even drained the battery by moving forward and back the electric front seats while passing the vacuum while changing the mats from summer to winter set!!!

Either the battery is too small for the car, or the wire going from the trunk to the car ignition are of the wrong gauge and cause high amps losses, or there is some electrical default with this car but it is basically a lemon's ignition system they put in this car...

I have had my GV70 for 1 month. Yesterday I checked my battery health and it was at 83%. Today after driving it it is now 79%. Could the problem be the battery is not charging while driving? That sounds like it would be an alternator issue. Can you hook up a battery tender to the jumper posts under the hood to keep the battery charged?
So the other night I was at a stop light and noticed that some of the interior lights were pulsating. Extremely subtle and you wouldn't notice it if not pointed out but my instant thought was that the power coming from the alternator was not clean. This would also make sense as to why I have an occasional "clipping/feedback" sound when playing media through USB. The usb is not getting clean/steady power, which is seen through the pulsing interior lights. I thought I was seeing things at first but it definitely was pulsating. It was raining so wipers were on, headlights on, and turn signal on, along with everything else inside the cabin. I also checked the battery health like you and mine as well says 79%. Whether or not that is normal when parked, I don't know. But everything I am experiencing is signaling an alternator issue or potentially improper grounding. Im nervous to speak with the dealership as I know I'll get beat around. Went in initially for the usb feedback issue and the "older man" said he is hard of hearing and didn't hear anything and refused to even attempt to remedy the situation. He said it was above his knowledge.

Okay, I've had my G70 for four months now and I am pretty convinced there is a charging or electrical issue. As you suggest, either the battery is not properly sized or something, but just sitting a day or two and I can tell the car is drained way too much. Not enough to prevent starting, but the automatic seat adjuster will not resume to the driving position from the exit position. It will always do this when the battery is charged, but will not when it senses the battery is depleted.

This really concerns me and I never sit in the vehicle waiting and listening to the radio. I fear the battery will just die on me so I always leave the engine running in those situations. As I have time, I am going to go back to the dealer and have them inspect it, but as another poster suggested, my guess is they will run some basic, perfunctory battery tests and tell me all is well. Pffft...

What the dealer should do is test the alternator, test the battery itself, and also test to see if there is a parasitic power drain. Seems pretty straight forward yet I fear dealers will not be thorough enough. Going to reach out to my dealer and set up an appointment nonetheless to see if they can find the issue.

Just had my Genesis GV70 die yesterday. Started it up in the morning fine, no alerts on the dashboard. Tried to turn it on again 8 hours later, dead.
Tried to jump it with portable chargers, with cables with another SUV, AAA came in and tried it hooked up to 2 large portable batteries, lights just go off, clicks when I try to start it, engine doesn't turn on, dies after 10 more seconds. Just enough time to put into neutral manually to get it hooked to the tow bed, now in the shop. Ridiculous they would let something like this pass and not address a recall on dud battery performance. You'd assume with all the tech, they'd put the proper battery with enough juice to get this performing well. Tow guy even said its his 4th GV70 pickup in the last week.

Glad I'm not nuts! Good luck with your issue.

We bought ours in November of 2022. Almost identical experience to yours. Second battery has died numerous times. Took it in and they said battery is fine. Went back home and it died the very next day. Did they ever resolve your issue? Thank you.

I had MANY battery problems in the first 10 days. Multiple times I returned to my car to find it had no battery left. I brought it back to the dealership and they said that the battery was fine and that it just needed to be fully charged. I purchased my car the day that it arrived to the dealer and they said that they were so busy getting it ready to go that they didn't give the battery a full charge. All cars have a long, slow ship to America. The battery needs to be fully charged at the dealership.
