  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any of you have a headliner/sunroof noise issue?

update...mine finally got fixed by the dealer. no issues since. not sure what they did, didn't need to replace the whole sunroof.

How long has it been since the fix?

Have you had it out in hot (80+) temps?

probably 6 months ago now. no issues since. Took two attempts. the first time the dealer denied hearing anything. the second time, they said they had their "sunroof" guy fix it. He did fine, apart from leaving some pieces loose in the floorboard that i had to have subsequently reinstalled... of course.. but got it sorted the next time in went in for service.

I fixed mine myself using this guide from the Kia Stinger forum. That rattling was driving me crazy.

@mrcleean on this forum used the Stinger guide and applied to his G70 (which I believe he just sold). I followed mrc and his photos and it solved the problem. Also I rarely have the window open. I open the shade for light but for air or ventilation it is of next to no use for me.

@tarhoosier, the rattle is present, in most cases, whether you have the sunroof open or closed, and the shade open or closed. Or did I misread your post above.

I got my car about 2 months ago and it's really annoying (something is wrong with the clip i think). I went to the service centre and because I'm the first one, they don't know what to do.
t's an issue in korea and the people who were in charge of sunroof/headliner would come and fix it for them but I don't know what they will do in here.

I doubt they will do that, and according to people who had this problem it would make the noise again and again (unless they change the whole headliner).
I'm just scared because the mechanic said he had never done this type of fixing ( i hope it doesnt get worse).
anyways I'll see how it goes and tell you guys the results!
I just picked up my car on Friday and it has 150 mi. Depending on the temperature I do hear a rattling or clicking sound which appears to be coming from the rear seat light switch cluster on the headliner.

I also do have some sunroof noise. I'm not sure what to do about that.

I had a lot of success doing these:

I have the same issue and it started the THIRD DAY after I bought my car. I now have it back to the dealer for the third time. There is also a new sound- some crazy popping sound from the dash. The car also shakes and is not driving smoothly. Been driving loaners now more than my real car and I’m now told after visit #3 it’s something with the ambient temp. But there were days the roof sounded like it was gonna fall in on me driving. So what am I only allowed to drive an almost 50k car when it’s cold out??? Ridiculous. Still no definite answer and no clue when it’s getting fixed and when I’m getting it back!

I also started having a creaking/popping noise coming from the front headliner on the second day of owning the car. Just took into a dealership and they fixed the issue but only lasted less than 24 hours. After the car sat in the sun in 85degree weather for 30minutes, the noise is back. Will post any future updates... I'm hoping they can fix the issue for good because the noise is driving me insane

The only permanent solution is complete replacement. Been there, done that, and it sucked, but it fixed the issue for real. There is a part of the sunroof metal frame folding mechanism that breaks, and then rattles, and it cannot be replaced or repaired, the entire sunroof has to be replaced. IME.

damn... i don't mind a complete replacement. my noise is coming specifically from the headliner near the front windshield, not near the sunroof. maybe if they replace the headliner the problem will be gone

Good luck, maybe it's not my old issue. There is a headliner noise thread where they found tabs of velcro underneath that help attach the headliner to the roof where the adhesive had failed, or something like that, and they had a fix. I think one guy shoved a towel up in there in frustration and it worked also. I forget the specifics.

There was no definitive single one fix or solution in that old thread. Just trial and errors. Some worked some didn’t. Some worked for a week then noise came back. Nothing ever definitive. Mine still creaks.

I have a similar rattle. Putting light pressure on the plastic trim of the overhead console stops it. I wasn’t very scientific about where I put pressure, and this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s coming from the trim piece. Good luck!

I did something very similar to test the noise. When i put pressure on the very front part of the headliner (the suede part before the sunglass holder) the noise also goes away

Same for me.

Yep, the dealership tried the cheap tape fix on mine but it was ineffective. They ordered a new sunroof last week under warranty.
