  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The GV70 Trailer Hitch Discussion

FYI, on the Genesis accessories page, it now lists a trailer hitch.

A pricey unit at $500 + probably another $250 to install. I would recommend trying UHaul.

Probably is a straightforward install, may have to drop the exhaust a few inches. But this is easy enough with a bit of spray oil to easy off the exhaust hangers. Most people should be able install it themselves. The wiring harness maybe a different story, that is when it is available.

Many thanks, just ordered mine!
FYI, if you plan on installing a wiring harness you should consider holding off on installing the hitch. Wiring probably needs to run along the back of bumper, the hitch may make this difficult. I'm assuming the wiring harness install will be similar to the one installed on a GV80. Check out the GV80 wiring harness installation video at etrailer.

So if I am noticing in the photo correctly - the hitch adds a visible black bar that is almost the width of the vehicle under the original black trim?

I would assume you are correct. I'm probably going to wait and see someone manufactures a hitch where the cross bar is hidden.

There are youtube videos that show installations. I've done 2 on different Prius and i wouldn't rate it as easy. Jacking up the back end for some of the work, laying on your back is not easy, depending on how old you are. I was 65 when I did the last one.

Thanks and merry Christmas to me, just ordered it.

I installed hitches on two on gv80 now have a gv70 waiting for a hitch to become available. No need to jack up the car. Wiring another story no custom kit. Cut and splice a general all purpose kit.
PS I'm 68.

FYI, please note thread above, Genesis is now offering a hitch for the GV70. But the horizontal bar is visible as it sits below the bumper.

I saw the pictures of the Genesis hitch I am waiting for the Kurt Hitch to be introduced. Usually they are half the price of the OEM hitch and better looking.

I had a dealer installed (factory? hitch put on a Range Rover Evoque and it was super ugly.

Had mine installed today, came out lovely. The only issue, when the guy was coming off the ramp, he bent the wire hardness area of the hitch, it rides low. I had to bend it back into place and painted the area with a glossy black finish. It was annoying, but it is not noticeable. The fix is not pictured here.

Ordered a receiver on Tuesday and picked it up at my local dealer today. Price was $382.50 after they gave me a 15% discount. I installed it today with the help of my son in about an hour. Pretty easy to do. Clear instructions for the tech are located at this page:

I took off the exhaust hangers easily with a pry bar instead of an exhaust hanger removal tool. You can rotate them off of the frame much easier than trying to get them off the muffler.

That does look easy with the 3 holes already there. If I were doing it, I think I would have the ball mount installed all the time. That's what I did with my '16 Acura RDX. Extra rear end protection for the bumper from parking lot dings. And something to stand on when washing the rear.

It was very easy. I was a little anal retentive about following the bolt tightening and torque sequence, which probably drove my son nuts. That took a little more time since I did it out of sequence once or twice. 😀

I'm going to be adding a bike hitch next. I will still install the wiring for trailer lights for when I need it. Moving the kids out of the house sometime!

Mine arrives on Monday, glad to know that the install looks pretty straightforward!

Did the wiring harness come with the hitch??

Thanks!

Did the wiring harness come with the hitch??

Thanks!
No wiring harness. Lady at the parts counter said they don't exist yet. She also said someone had one done custom for a GV80 and it was $$$. I'm waiting on etrailer.com to sell one.

It did include a drawbar/shank and a hitch pin, which surprised me.

Got my 2022 GV70 Trailer Hitch. But not from the Genesis parts and accessories page. They list it for $499.99. I called the dealer. He didn't know about it or show the hitch on his computer. I gave him the part number and it came up. He ordered it and came in 3 days later from the distributer. It was $450. I did not let the dealer install it because they said installation (not including the hitch) would be a whopping $765!! Really? No wiring harness by the way. Just the hitch. I took it to U-Haul. They installed it for $100 even. It does come with the ball hitch mount (minus the ball). Thanks to all of you on the forum for all the info.

From what I can tell, there is an upcharge for original Genesis accessories on the genesispartsandaccessories.com site. I compared prices on several accessories from the website and local dealers. For example, 2022 Genesis GV70 Reversible Cargo Tray (H001) costs $169 on the website and is $145 at the dealers. My guess is that the upcharge is for "free shipping."
