  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Front license plate

It's got to be centered for me. If I really hated seeing it, I'd go for a retractable electric frame. It only needs to be visible when you're behind the wheel.
I'm just the opposite. I care when I'm outside the car. Inside, I could care less. Kind of like a dent. Hate to see them while walking up to the car, but inside, could care less.

Still, prefer everything "centered up"...

Kinda thought we were saying the same thing. We could retract the license plate when we're outside of the car or not driving, and display the plate when we are driving. I agree that centered is preferred.

ME BAD. Exactly my feelings along with all dents on the right side so that I don't see them when opening my drivers door.

Maybe I'll do a scientific experiment and take my front plate off to test how quickly I get a "missing" front plate ticket. At this point in my life, long since retired, I only drive about 4,000 miles a year if that. I only had my G80 about 6 months and was backing up in the dark and bumped a truck, putting 2 very small dings in the rear bumper.

I immediately went to my body shop to see what they could do about it. $700 estimate so 3 years later I avoid looking at the area when I'm behind the car. Cheap repair.

I hear ya - I drove my '09 G37 in Dallas for 10 years and never had a front plate installed, kept it in the trunk. Never got stopped or even questioned. Put it on before I sold it, though.
I’m in Dallas as well and planning to go sans front plate. I’ve always followed the rule of “Only break one law at a time”.

If I were going to sing that story to a cop about the front plate being in the trunk, I might explain that by saying I'm missing one screw to hold the plate on and trying to find another screw. Add that I was worried with only one screw, the plate might fall off. Of course to fully sell this whooper, you would have to have the empty bracket on the front and the only screw left taped to the front plate. Queue the music I'm sorry music...

Oh and watch your speed. ANY speed stop and the cop is probably walk around the front. Seeing the missing plate will probably kill any chance of just a warning on the missing plate. Ops, that broke your one law at a time rule!!!

I like this thread, so I'll chime in. I live in Washington, which requires a front plate. For the three years I leased my 2018 G90 I never had one. I was pulled over a few times but was never ticketed for a front plate (or for anything actually). I don't think they ever looked or forgot. My current ride is my '06 Acura RL. No plate on that one either. A casual survey or cars I see on the streets indicates about 10% don't have front plates. It doesn't seem to be a priority for our local or state patrols. Yay.

I'm currently waiting for delivery of a GV80, hopefully by the end of the month. I've asked the salesman to make sure they don't drill the front bumper when it shows up. I doubt my request will get to the service department in time.

Did the dealer screw your front plate on, or did they clip it on to the grill?

My Gv70 came with a clip on plate holder for the grill.

We live in NY, and we placed an order for the 2022 GV80, we decided to go with it. We were thinking of registering it in Delaware, as we have family there. I CANNOT have the plate over the grill, or to the side. It looks really bad with it.

Hey, I don't know what the fuss is about front plates. You CAN'T see them when you're behind the wheel. And you can't see them when approaching the vehicle from either the right, left or behind. They also probably greatly increase recovering your vehicle if stolen. I guess the big negative would be seeing a picture of your vehicle from the front.

Actually they look like crap on the front of this beautiful design

The idea of a front plate bothered me before I got my GV80. Now that I have one, I never even think about it.

Bought my wife a beautiful white GV80 & never thought about plate placement until the new plates came in the mail. The recommended location ruins the look of the whole front. My quest for a solution lead me to this forum/thread and it sparked me to do some additional Google searching. Hopefully what I found will be helpful to others.
I just ordered the Undermount License Plate Bracket License Plate Gear & plan to place it on the far left (passenger side) of the front bumper. It doesn't appear that it will interfere with any sensors there & since her GV80 is white, I'm hoping the white TX plate will blend in better there. It can't be any worse than in the middle of the grill.

I’m in NY so need a front plate. Dealer put a bracket on the grill which looks terrible. Anyone have a solution to place it lower on the bumper? I know there are sensors etc but yuck on the grill kills the whole loo

I live in Houston Tx. Front plate req in Tx also. Drove a 2003 350Z for 18 yrs without a front plate. (Huh ??) Got pulled over for speeding and tacked it on. Solution: attached license plate with Velcro to front bumper and took pic. Dismissed with photo in court.

Still think this is the way to go, if it can be mounted well.

This would be nice.

This would be nice.

This looks to me like the best solution but I would worry that the moment the plate is flipped back up, the blocked GV front grille sensor could trigger warning alarms. Worse even, if you flip the plate up while the car is moving forward (with a police car possibly following), might it trigger the car’s emergency accident avoidance braking, and make a following police car slam into your rear end? Not a pretty picture. I don’t remember if the accident avoidance is triggered by the grill sensor or the top of windshield camera. In either case some safety feature could trigger and make for an embarrassing situation when the license plate is flipped to the up position. Other than this reservation I have about it, the motorized hidden plate sounds very cool and very James Bond 007. If I knew it wouldn’t cause a problem, I’d get this.

I just took off the plate holder when I got the car home from the dealers back in Aug 2021.....made sure I "damaged" the prongs on the plastic plate and have kept it in the cargo area since. Been stopped once by State trooper in RI and showed him the "damaged" plate holder and said its on backorder....told me to have a nice day...

Out here they probably would have given you a "FIX IT TICKET"!!! (Guess your state is different!)

What is it about Genesis that a front plate carrier was not needed? Not wanting to ruin the grill look, what other alternative is there? Law enforcement in a number of states don't care.......it's required.
