  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

50000 Mile UPDATE

I used to think the same about domestic cars until I started to work for a supplier.
My job involves lots of work inside the car, and seeing the newer vehicles, both production and prototype, firsthand changed my perception of domestic products.
I agree that big 3 have still work to do to catch up with imports, but the gap is closing fast.
IMO, Ford is doing the best among big 3, GM is okay, and Chrysler needs a lot of work.
It's mostly interior design/quality that needs to improve the most.
As a car enthusiast, I hope to see better products from the big 3.

I just returned my Ford Expedition lease, and I wasn't thrilled at how poorly the interior held up, in a 3 year old car. Granted this is a truck, but as you mentioned, it's really the interior design and materials of the American 3 that makes them feel like rental cars. I have to get another car soon, and am seriously considering going back to BMW, now that the new 5 will be out soon.

Oh I agree. When I said they're getting better, I meant the newer platforms(Chevy Equinox/GMC Terrain/Caddy SRX, Ford Taurus, Mustang, etc.).
Older platforms are mediocre at best.(Interior-wise)

When it comes to interior, they really should learn from VAG.
Audi and VWs have one of the best interiors, IMO.
Also the Acuras(although they're somewhat ugly on the outside) have VERY nice interiors.

Boooooooo! ;)

Hopefully the rumored Genesis sedan R-Spec is true, or the 2011 V8 is improved enough to keep you here. :D

Excellent review. Thanks for the update. I'll look forward to your review at 100k.

I just crossed 3,000 miles, so it looks like I can expect to have years of trouble-free driving.

As a point of comparison, Mercedes had to totally replace the transmission on my son's R550 crossover at 44,000 miles. The car was under warranty, thank God. After that he decided to trade it before the warranty expired.

I am keeping the Genesis for sure. I need another car for another family member. I suggested a Kia Sorento, and her response was, "Enough with the Korean cars!"
She did like the 5 series though...go figure, a woman liking expensive things, who would have thought?

Thanks for the write up! :)

I'm still loving my Genesis after approx. 2 years (took delivery 6/26). It's not perfect, but neither were my BMW, Lexus, Cadillac, Acura or Land Rover. My biggest regret has nothing to do with the car or Hyundai, but rather my color choice and decision not to wait 2-3 months for the Tech Package to become available. Hyundai really hit this one out of the park in most respects IMO. To this day I can't think of another $35k car that feels as well-built or is as handsomely styled as my Genesis.

The only car that I ever owned that was Perfect was my 1999 Lexus GS300. Other cars that were very close to perfect were my 1987 and 1991 Honda Accords. They were perfect in what they were designed to do.

My 2007 Lexus GS350 is far from Perfect.

I look forward to a 2011 Genesis.

TJ, BMW is making a 5 in a truck? Who'da thunk it? Let us know how that works out for you. :p

The 1999-2005 GS300 was the perfect Lexus! The 3rd Generation 2006 GS300 and on had more issues than anyone could count (creaks, rattles, etc). Once in awhile there is a car that is close to perfection. I too look forward to the 2011 Genesis, and hopefully they will have ironed out all the early model issues.

Wanted to clarify some queries:

1. I've got a 3.8 Tech - 2009 - with a 08/08 build date I believe
2. No, I don't own a Exige 260S, but autox'd an elise and thats always a hoot :) And I'd love an Evora
3. Appears that Hyundai further strengthened the roof of the Genesis for 2010 to meet the new IIHS criteria for a top safety pick. Another example of 'continuous improvement' being truly taken to heart - this company actually CARES about their product.
4. Sorry for being so Lazy and not changing my profile status - I'll be sure to change it to owner....soon :D

"only turns a little 'crusty' over rough surfaces".

Vishnus11......I wish I knew what you meant by 'crusty'? I'm going to assume by the definition you mean "rough".

50,000 miles already?!

I know jwaters was the first in this forum to purchase the Genesis, but he hasnt even come close to your mileage. Do you drive for a living?

Tell me about it. I barely drive my Genesis anymore. :(

At this rate it will take me 11-12 years to reach 100k miles.
