  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Motortrend called the GV70 the 2022 SUV of the year. Pick your source. Consumer Reports, J.D. Power, etc. all have different results. Kind of like choosing which news station you watch. Everybody says something different so you have to do your own research anyway. First, we have a very good Hyundai dealership in our area. From what I gather we are pretty lucky. My wife and I have had a good experience over the years with the recent Korean cars and have a good relationship with a particular salesman. It really came down to brand and dealership experience for us.

JD Powers rated the Genesis Brand as the best of luxury vehicles in initial quality .They did say that problems in cars were up this year .

I think a big part of the problem is that when problems arise it is more difficult to get them resolved due to parts and labor shortages .

CR recommendations are more based on arbitrary subjective nonsense for user-friendliness like infotainment usability, which is what they ding all Genesis vehicles for. Reliability is a potshot since these are new vehicles and they have zero data for the GV70.

If reliability is your number one priority, don't buy a vehicle in its first model year. Doesn't matter the brand, not even Lexus is immune to catastrophic issues.

So many of the problems that new owners report are for their own failure to figure out the infotainment controls. It's utterly absurd that these circumstances are chalked up as "reliability" issues.

It's even dumber than that, CR recommendations aren't based on owner reports or data, they're based on what the CR staff themselves test and like. In other words, it's totally subjective.

Another great review from Australia:

Jealous about the UHP tires that come standard along with AR nav.

This is the big issue. The warranty for Genesis is good (assuming you have a decent dealer to take advantage of it). The real problem is parts availibility and lack of long term loaners to cope.

Let’s keep this thread about reviews, since that’s its title.

They are useless idiots.
Agreed! They focus on the most ridiculous details like uncomfortable seats while ignoring engine failure rates and put most weight on mileage numbers...they do not reflect consumer priorities at all. I have come to simply ignore everything they publish.

I quit reading and will not read another CR opinion, and it is an opinion, they have no cred when they open up with the powerful statement about the gear selector! Just how mind bending of an experience it must be to be so confused. Well then go try it at 70 mph and choose the wrong knob and see what happens….nothing! You get a warning chime and notice to use the other knob…what a catastrophe! I’m so tired of the confusing knob story…well then try the other knob!

Yeh it’s so hard to mentally and emotionally recover from choosing the wrong knob while trying to change gears and the station changes instead. The safeties won’t let you change gears while moving…oh the humanity of using the wrong knob 🤪

The Genesis gear selector is a heck of a lot more intuitive than the column shifter on any modern Mercedes. CR complained about that too.

And yet a decade later, how many people are crying about it to Mercedes other than CR's testers? 🥱

Selecting the wrong wheel is really on a deal-breaker. I don't drive the GV70 that much and I seldom make that mistake. Usually, I notice it right away and it has not caused either of us any problems. Every car has one or more "endearing qualities," You just get used to them.

Best written review of the GV70 to date? You be the judge!:

I didn't like it at first but when I drive our second car I really miss the eas of the dial shifter. It becomes intuitive in a couple weeks. Old shifters feel clunky and slow afterward. The autopark when shutting off the engine is a game changer too. I now often turn off our other car and forget to put it in park first. That's a me problem though!

Nice review of 3.5 GV70 (Minus the two grammatical errors the editor missed;):

Just found this review from 4/20 while noodling…interesting review with an equally fascinating summation of the GV70 from a blind person’s perspective:

The HUD is too faint and has too many reflections, so you should turn it off? I've never heard that from anyone before - has anyone found this to be an issue? I just did the test drive as I'm still waiting for mine, but I didn't think it was an issue in that short time I drove it...

Must be nice having HUD, jealous. I don’t have that, so I can’t comment. However the 2023 GV70 Sport Advanced now has HUD. Maybe a new owner wants to chime in?
