  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Intermittantly the voice command system acts as if there is a hidden mute switch for the microphone, and today I caught the thing acting up, and took a 3 min video with my phone, which I will show the dealership.

While not in the video, I have on other occasions tried every possible command, knob and button to get the system to start hearing my voice. Generally, when this thing happens, it will just do what it wants until sometime later, when it suddenly will commence responding to voice commands, as it did 10 minutes after this video, when it suddenly said "Navigation on". Thats the first time it has said that when it resumed working. Prior to the video it was unresponsive for about 40 minutes on the highway. Typically this voice command black out occurs 1-2 a week. It is not a comprehension issue with the system and the commands you hear from me have always worked when the system is 'up'.

All the rest of the radio/NAV and bluetooth phone connections and system will work, except for any voice activated uses.

The mic is directly above your head. Maybe stick your face right next to it and say the commands nice and loud. Maybe you have a faulty mic?

Otherwise I have no clue other than a dealership trip. Nice video though. I have a feeling more and more people are going to be making vids for all different problems for all different makes and models.

No more hiding for the auto companies.

I have experienced a voice command failure two times. Both times a message on the screen stated: ( SDS programming in the background, try again later). In both cases it continued to refuse voice commands and gave the message. In both cases I left the car in the garage when I returned home, still not working. In both instances it was working properly the next time I used the car. I reported this to the dealer. He searched the trouble list he had and could find no reported similar problem.

Do you have an XM subscription? If yes, has it stopped working?

I suspect you need a new amp...

I do have a temp sub to XM and all things work, even when the mic/voice command is non-responsive.

Yes, the mic, right above, typically will hear my kids commands from the back seat just fine. It is pretty sensitive.

I'm trying to remember where I saw that same "SDS programming" thing before...

Had a similar problem. Started off with flaky performance ended with complete failure. Required a new amp to be installed at the dealer.

Well I just took a 30 minute drive and was playing around with the voice commands. This might be a coincidence but it was acting up for the first time ever. My XM subscription just ran out not to long ago as well... and this was the first time I've used the VC since then.

I'd hit the button and it would say, "Please wait" or something to that nature, which it never said before. Usually it would just "beep" and I'd say, "Call Home". So that is different.

Then at some points I'd hit the button and nothing would happen. I'd have to hit it a couple times consecutively for it to say, "please wait". Whats up with all of this... I wonder if it has something to do with XM and the free trial everyone got?

hmmm... I don't know.

Just so you know my Genesis never said, "Please wait" ever until my XM subscription just ran out. Something is very screwy here.... FIAT mentioned this same thing... I wonder if we have a nationwide problem...?

Does anyone elses system say "Please wait"?

Only when I've sneezed during the actual command beep.:D

Mine still has the XM subscription and when I press the VC button too quickly after starting the car, it just displays something like; "Voice command is being prepared in the background. Please try again at a later time..."
Never heard the "Please wait" prompt.

This is weird.

I had the problem when I let my XM subscription laps. It constantly stated to please wait. It corrected itself after a week or two. Now that XM gave us a week or two for free till the 7th it started all over again.
Yesterday while on a call, I could not hang up. My controller would do nothing. I had to use my phone to exit.
I am hoping that it will correct it self again.
If not, to the dealer.

If your XM has expired just give it a few days it will return to normal. To check this pull you car into a garage where it can't get the XM signal I bet it works fine with it not getting the XM signal.
From my experience it seams like the computer is trying to connect to the XM signal and keeps trying and that screws everything up.

Interesting. What a crappy S/W design...
Again, this shows how the production of the DIS system was rushed into, without proper validation process.
Well, at least it fixes itself after a few days, right?

Dan

I posted two videos today here http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=5454

It shows how the DIS systems works with and without XM subscription....

FYI. My XM subscription recently expired. The voice commands continued to work properly before and after the XM renewal today. The inconsistency does not make sense. We must be missing something.
I tried the commercial radio route for 2 weeks but couldn't handle the constant barrage of #@^% commercials!

I have had problems with my navigation unit.

When I purchased my 4.6 Genesis with Tech package it included 1 year of XM for free. As long as my XM subscription was active, I had no problems with any of the NAVI features. At some point this winter, I started having problems with my voice command feature.

Sometimes I would press the button to give a command, and it wouldn't respond at all. Other times it would pause for a long time, tell me to wait, and then, 10-15 seconds later give me a beep. It would take the command, but the radio wouldn't come back for 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes. Sometimes the whole system would hang up, none of the buttons working at all on the system until I stopped and restarted the engine.

I took it to the shop, where they did their best, but could find nothing. It seemed a little ridiculous to make a big deal about this minor feature, so I just live with it, but it grated on me. The nav/av system for this car cost me $4000, I thought it should work flawlessly.

A few weeks ago, XM offered a free week of access and when my XM service reactivated, everything worked again! Woo-hoo! No delays in voice commands, no hang ups everything was perfect. When the week ended, and the delays and system hangs came back, I gave serious thought to subscribing to XM on one of their resubscribe offers, just to get my navigation working 100% again.

Then, last week my dealership called me up to offer me a free "Navigation Upgrade". They told me it was updating my maps, but it's on a series of 4 DVDs and the update takes hours. Clearly, it's more than simply maps. When I got the car back yesterday, the NAVI operated perfectly, with no lag. f you are having problems with your Navigation system, call your dealership and ask if your car is eligible for Campaign #P06, it fixed my problems.

Here is the link to the PDF for Campaign #P06:

I've seen that even with a working XM subscription. It didn't go away until I turned the car completely off.
