  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2019 G70 Infotainment Screen Delamination

My dealership called yesterday and I have an appointment to have the new screen installed on Friday. The service writer said the installation will take about 2 hours. Hopefully the new screen doesn't exhibit the same issue after a few years...

Enjoy,

That's what I'm wondering as well, I mean if they're replacing it with the same design, it probably will...

Unless it was a manufacturing defect and not a design issue. If so, hopefully they have identified the problem in their process and corrected it.

Curious about how owners with the problem park their cars. I assume those vehicles get a lot of sun, like sitting at least during the day under the sun (like at work), right? And how about using a sunshield when parked? After reading of those issues, I didn't consider a new 2021 G70 2.0T fully loaded (they don't come like that anymore) that has been sitting under the elements for 2 freaking years, and would have saved only 3 grand over the 2023 top line I got right off the truck, but it doesn't come with HUD, Napa, and 360 anymore. But it has many other upgrades, like the infotainment, the wheels, the interior trim of the 3.3T SP, etc. So went with that. My car is always garaged, and only sits outside during trips, and with the nicest sun-shield you can buy (HeatShield), plus just installed the best ceramic tint, to lower interior temperatures and sun damage further. Hope no issues with it.

Did you tint your windshield?

Yeah, it sucks not being able to buy the equipment the thirstier engine gets; seems stupid. We older people want small efficient vehicles, but luxurious as well. Tried the 3.3T SP, but hated the awful noise of the exhaust, and no way to turn it off. Plus it's quite a bit worse than the 2.0T in fuel economy, and don't really need that much power. So happy with the 2.0T, but just wish it had the equipment of the 2021s. But Genesis removed it for 2022 with the redesign, for some reason. At least they added the ventilated seats, but had to pay dearly for that. Ha ha.

I'd NEVER tint the windshield. The main reason is it has to be heated extensively, due to dual curvature, and that distorts the film, which causes headaches in many folks, without even knowing why. It cannot be optically correct when heated, since you're shrinking it (making it thicker), and also stretching it (making it thinner). The secondary reason is unless done at a specialty paint booth, with no particles in the air, you might end up with one of those inevitable 'worms' in your line of sight that would drive me nuts. Ha ha. We were tempted with the Tesla, due to their humongous windshield, but decided not to. And good ceramic tint is crazy thick, compared to regular tint, so the distortion effect is worse.

Well, hoped in my 2019 Adv G70 and sure enough the screen in the top right corner is bubbled/ delaminating. Of course these things happen in the midst of me moving in 3 days. Let me know if anyone k ows a good Genesis dealership in NJ.

I still can't believe how so many people have had the delamination start happening at the same time from June. Whether in Canada or US on the 2019 G70

I got my 2019 G70 back today with the new screen (and perhaps a new head unit?). The service writer told me they had replaced the entire infotainment unit; not just the screen. I have my doubts as all of my saved phone, radio, SXM and nav data were still intact as were all of my "setup" settings. The only thing that needed to be reset was the height of the heads-up display, which had to be raised back to 14mm as it had reset itself to 10mm for some reason. All in all, a painless process covered by the warranty seemingly w/o inducing any squeaks or rattles into the cabin! We will have to see if the new screen (or head unit?) outlasts the original...

Enjoy,

I wonder if there will be a recall. It's very bizarre that this started happening to everyone in June..
It’s not a safety issue so would be surprised if a recall was done. Would expect some Hyundai cars to have the same issue for I thought the 2019 and 2020 Genesis screens were the same as what Hyundai also used?

Mine was just replaced under warranty a few days ago at Genesis of Jersey City/Hudson Hyundai. They seem to be pretty good I have been there for the complementary maintenance and other warranty work and had no issues.

When I bought my G70 Design Edition a year ago (August 2021) the screen had delaminated and was replaced in January 2022 under warranty. (Yes, 5 months and 2 dealerships to get the part and get it installed. There's a reason Hyundai Wesley Chapel gave up their Genesis franchise.) The other issue that was fixed under warranty was the amplifier (dead subwoofer outputs). Gettel Genesis in Bradenton FL has been pretty good to deal with.

For second owners out of warranty, what's the cost to have Hyundai/Genesis replace the delaminated screen? Are there any DIY fixes? Also, does anyone have a photo of what the delaminated screen looks like?

Check the posts on this thread, there's already a picture of what it looks like..

Oh my bad. I'm on mobile and missed it.

Hope the community can chime in on out-of-warranty cost to fix and whether there are DIY ways to fix it.

We seem to have a mini epidemic going on here. My dealership is still waiting for the new screen to arrive and as of yesterday did not have a projected arrival date (at least not that they would share over the phone). Hopefully it isn't on backorder or coming all the way from Korea (or sitting in a container backlogged at a port)...

Enjoy,

Mine is on backorder and has an ETA of 6-8 weeks. Good thing everything still works and it’s only a cosmetic issue. My 3 yr lease ends in about 7 weeks (currently buying out my lease) but I gather it’s based on when I started the process anyway so should be fine. Actually the service rep said that part carries a 5 yr warranty anyway. Either way I ain’t paying for it!

Is the laminate just an anti-glare protector and/or scratch protector? If so, I imagine peeling the entire thing off is OK and being able to replace it with a custom-sized one (just like the ones they make for cell phones and other handheld devices).

You can't just go ahead and peel any layer of the display..
