Hello everybody, I have a question about Hyundai Genesis 3.8 and maybe u can help me. Hyundai Genesis is a rear
wheel drive car so I want to ask that how is its performance and driving ability in snow and especially in snowy uphill roads because I heard that front
wheel drive cars performance and driving abilities in snow and snowy uphill roads are much more better than rear
wheel drive cars. For example can u compare its performance in snowy roads with Hyundai Azera 3.3? Thank u so much.
If you have to ask this question, you will be better off buying a FWD (or AWD with a front bias).
Our RWD cars, even with "Traction Control" (or Positraction which is not the same) will go fine in snow and ice, but not as good as FWD.
As mentioned before, "What did we do before FWD or even Positraction"???
My father (bless him) taught me to drive in Rochester NY (snow country) in February. LOTS OF SNOW AND ICE. No FWD or Positraction back then. He always told me to not do anything fast. That is, don't accelerate fast, don't steer or turn fast, and don't brake fast or hard. I never forgot his advice.
Years ago, I had higher powered RWD "Sport Cars" and I never had problems driving in the snow and ice. You just have to use your head when driving in those conditions.
That being said, the last time I got called up North for a family emergency, in November, I took the Continental FWD, not the Genesis RWD, not so much because of traction, but because I did not want to get road salt on the Genesis. I had some snow, and lots of "black ice". Genny stayed nice and warm in Florida.
Last December, I did take the Genesis through NW Texas (US-380) and into New Mexico, (Roswell and Ruidoso) and I did see snow and ice on road. Had no problems. Even "tested" the ABS and ESC on the icy/snowy streets of Roswell, just to make sure they functioned ok. They did. (ABS pulses like expected - ESC [Traction Control] works "jerky", probably because it is the type that shuts ignition, and or puts on one of the brakes to the
wheel that is slipping - don't know) (Traction Control does not work like Positraction which sends the power through the differential to the
wheel with traction and is not an electronic or ECM function). (If I'm wrong anyone, please feel free to correct me).
Again, if you are not sure of your ability, better off with a FWD or front bias AWD.
