I’m really curious how they accomplished it. My chrome looks like crap. I’ve tried every product suggested and nothing seems to help. I’d be happy with the shiny look instead of the smoky look as long as it looked even. I took my car into two different Hyundai dealerships recently. Neither one would do anything about it. One suggested Bar Keepers friend — which made no difference. It’d be awesome if I could find a solution with the dealership before my warranty expires early’ish next year.I wrote about it before. When my car was delivered new, all of the trim looked like crap. I sent it back over and over. Then suddenly it came back perfect. In my amazement i asked how they did it. The answer was, we found the secret. The secret took 9 hours of my time to uncover, and they didn't give it up.
Long story shortened, there is a method to make it perfect with very little effort. I would give it up if I knew. Ask Genesis of North Houston.
When I say it was perfect, it was like they just manufactured it new. It has maintained the stellar look for 2 years now. The solution must have been at least somewhat permanent.
I have an 2018 G80S with the copper trim. The trim around the side windows is terrible. It looks like a splashed copper rainbow. The car only has 40,000 miles on it. The paint and other trim is fine. I’ve tried polish, wax, ceramic polish and everything I’ve had in my garage to no avail. I contacted the dealer and Genesis customer service. Genesis informed me that if the dealer replaced it they would honor the warranty repair. I was told that the parts were ordered and I would be contacted when they arrive. It’s about 3 weeks now. I admit I’m not very patient, and I am a stickler about customer service. The dealership has had staff changes and reports supply issues. My problem is that the car is a Premium Vehicle and those issues are not my problem. Fix it. Sorry about the rambling but to me it’s frustrating. Good luck with yours.View attachment 15239I have my G80 sport for about 3 months and after I got my car back from the dealership for some rattle and armrest fabric issue. I notice that the dark chrome trim around the doors starting to discolor. I see spots everywhere on the chrome. Pieces started to look like it was from a 15 year old car.
Is anyone is having this issue? This is a WTF moment.
So I have an update on my trim. I spoke with the dealership parts dept., and it was ordered as well as a driver side seat cover.I’m really curious how they accomplished it. My chrome looks like crap. Here we go. Curious as to y’all’s thoughts. I think it looks pretty good. Definitely better than the discoloration crap going on. But these types of things generally take a while to grow on me. The more I see it the more I’m starting to like the look. Just sucks that I had to do it to begin with.I get my car back today. I'll go in and pick it up this afternoon. I took it in to have a 'Chrome Delete' done on it. They're wrapping the chrome parts with gloss black. I sure hope I don't hate the look! I couldn't possibly hate it more than I hate seeing the nasty looking chrome every time I walk to my car. I'll post pictures if anybody is curious to see the results.
That's not a bad look. The black trim on the grill against the red paint does stand out a little. The other black wrap blends nicely with the car. Here we go. Curious as to y’all’s thoughts. “Did they wrap the trim around the 2 air intakes, below the headlights on the front bumper?” Yes, you can see it in some of the photos. I think that looks really good. That's not a bad look. Did they wrap the trim around the 2 air intakes, below the headlights on the front bumper?
What was the wrap brand and type?
Total cost (material and labor)?
Did dealer or 3rd party/detailer do the install?
In your opinion is it feasible for a do-it-yourselfer to do it?
My 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T exterior is Victoria black. A black wrap would make it rather dark/ghoulish. I'd consider only wrapping the window trim. The other trim (grill, door handles) is fine on my car as of now.

How long did it take for them to chrome delete your car? And also is this something that you will have to touch up after a while? Here we go. Curious as to y’all’s thoughts. I dropped it off Monday morning and they had it ready Wednesday morning. They warranty the work for a year. They estimate the wrap will last 3-5 years. Not sure what to expect with it. If in three years it starts failing, I might take it off and have them just redo the windows. The Genesis dealer said they’ve been taking the cars to a body shop and having them powder coat the pieces — but that would likely be thousands of dollars, so I’m not really interested in that. If I need to do a $400 window wrap in a few years, so be it.How long did it take for them to chrome delete your car? Also will this require a touch up after a while or special care?
And my biggest question is will it withstand this Texas heat/weather?
Here you go. Just had them all replaced
I have the same issueHere you go. Just had them all replaced
Good luck! My dealership was unwilling to work with me, but apparently some are nicer than others. Fingers crossed. Report back with your results!I just bought an ‘18 g80 sport. Love the car. Hate the trim lol. It has some pretty severe discoloring going on. The warranty ends next month so I’ve already made my appointment with my local genesis dealer. Their service department has some pretty low reviews on Yelp.. if all else fails. That chrome delete is calling my name. I figured I’d at least try to get it replaced since I still have some warranty coverage. wish me luck
For sure! I go in on 1/23. I’m contemplating reaching out to genesis customer care as well. Time is not on my side. My warranty expires 2/23Good luck! My dealership was unwilling to work with me, but apparently some are nicer than others. Fingers crossed. Report back with your results!
That black wrap looks awesome with the red. I'm getting just my window trim wrapped, but probably going with a matte silver - I need a bit of contrast. Just can't stand the mottled look of the existing trim. Here we go. Curious as to y’all’s thoughts. I think it looks pretty good. Definitely better than the discoloration crap going on. This is very helpful. Thanks for sharingHad mine replaced couple years ago. Took it back in last month and they did the TSB that says try this polish and it completely removed bronze color. Service manager told me nothing he could do, cuz genesis wasn't authorizing warranty replacement anymore. Opened a case with genesis care on owners portal. They told me dealer is wrong, genesis will authorize warranty replacement. Process is have dealer do the TSB polish, then if it removes bronze they are to take pictures and submit it to genesis for warranty replacement. Genesis customer care sId my trim should be in next week, also having trim around grill replaced under warranty as well. If you get push back from dealer open case directly with genesis and they will contact dealer directly to get them to take action and will provide you weekly updates on status as well.
