  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2023 Genesis G90

Link isn't working

I think he might be referring to the recent Hyundai Grandeur announcement. It ain't making to the States anytime soon if ever.

Yeah, thanks for loading the photos. I couldn't get it to work on my phone.

Looks amazing. Doubt we will see it. Even the Sonata N in the States got hammered on so many options that the limited has. They ruin a line to protect the one higher but you really have to pay big premium to go up.

New Car and Driver comparison:

Moral of the story is don't buy an LS500.
A family member just bought a w223 S400 (Which in the middle east is the lowest engine spec S class you can buy). The car is largely stripped of comforts, bringing it down into a more reasonable price bracket, but with standard leather seats, (Effectively removing the one thing that meaningfully makes the w223 a better car than the G90) giving the S no advantages and a significantly higher price tag than the G90. The two cars were side by side but I didn't take a photo. I would say though that seeing them in person side by side from the exterior the G90 was way nicer than the W223.

I honestly almost pulled the trigger on the W223 s500 over the g90 and after seeing the two side by side I'm glad I didn't. Was also speaking to the CFO of a company I used to work for that leased a little over 30 2022 W223s, and they were saying the amount of issues in those cars that require dealer service annually is quite high. They made a decision to switch to the 2023 BMW 7 Series instead for the next round of leases.

The only things that truly bug me in my G90 right now are:
1. No rear massage seats and no second ottoman that comes down from the front passenger seat for the Middle East. Not expected to be available until 2024.
2. Wind noise is is higher than I would expect. Its as bad as the wind noise in a W223 (so not the worst) but you would expect a quieter cabin. I found a snag in the front windshield rubber gasket, and I suspect that is somehow causing it, so I'll be asking the dealer to fix it on the next service
3. I wish they learned a bit more from the W223 about how to get the seats more comfy in the rear
4. No rear seat pillows at launch for the Middle East - currently trying to get the OEM aftermarket ones in the same color as my seats - so far can't find any globally. I can only find them black.
5. I have to manually reset the arrangement of the passenger seat every time I sit in the rear seat. There is no way to automatically do all that. You are given three one click options they give you, and can't default the seat into any of them.
6. The SC version in the US has nicer wheels than the ones sold in the Middle East, and I have no way of getting those here.
7. Sound system is absolutely one of the best I've ver heard, but one of my rear speakers buzzes on one very specific tone that I've only ever heard on two tracks. Still, I've asked the dealer to look at it during the next service, because that shouldn't be happening.

Is the wind noise a concern in the US models?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
There just wasn't enough sales to justify offering the V8.

Unless plans have changed, Genesis had stated that there are no plans to electrify the G90 like they have done w/ the G80.
This is really weird. Since the TT V8s don't sound good and all they're after is power and smoothness, going full electric makes perfect sense. I love my V8 because it's naturally aspirated and sounds like a monster when the rear muffler is bypassed. If it sounded like nothing, I wouldn't care much about it. The smoothest V8 wouldn't compare to a simple electric motor so once we get into twin turbo one with all kinds of filters to silence them, I've lost interest.

But by god it is comfortable. I mean really... I've just become hyper aware of things that I've never really focused on in other cars that now suddenly annoy me every time they impinge on the serenity of my drive. A bit of wind noise coming through the windows, and I'm cursing the designer who didn't quintuple pane the glass. Feel that bump on the road a bit harder than I imagined I would have liked to, and I'm prepared to call the Korean Consumer Protection Agency. Honestly I never paid attention to any of this stuff in a car before (other than a Jeep Wrangler, where you are hyper aware because of how horrible the experience is constantly). But now I find myself super honed in on every issue, no matter how minor, because it intrudes on the cocoon the car created for me the second I stepped in to it.
This is how I felt with my 2012 Genesis Sedan after I took it all apart and added mass loaded vinyl and acoustic foam in every door, panel and along the floor.

Suddenly it was so quiet (well, relatively since the ambient noise floor frequency is much lower when you eliminate a lot of the mid and high frequencies) that I would focus on every little thing that made any noise like an item in the cup holder or something creaking if I went over a bump. People say my current G90 is so quiet but it feels much louder to me because up to 100kmph I used to not hear much unless I was driving over rough roads or it was very windy, and at 50-70 is was essentially silent. I rememeber testing it with dB meters and it was between 95 and 105 at highway speeds.

Back to the new G90, I haven't test driven it yet, but can you confirm if in North America we get the leg support and massaging rear seats? I know the foot massage and foot rest are in the LWB version which North America isn't getting, but I feel like every review so far doesn't mention the back seat features I was looking forward to.

But does it make fiscal sense? Have you looked at the sales numbers of the G90? Would they recoup the cost of engineering? I imagine it is a very low priority.

I can't confirm anything as I don't live in the US, but some of the videos I've seen by North American reviewers mentioned rear seat massage. TheStraightPipes being the last one I watched to mention it and around 2:55 in the video.

US models get leg support but not the foot support that folds from the back of the front chair. This is a feature on the SWB models in South Korea.

definitely reclining and massaging in the E-SC verion, per genesis brochure. Also Intellingent memory system seems to refer to remembering seat's position for a specific occupant?

It can Remember the seat position but not the front passenger seat. So you end up needing to do one click to get your back seat into a preferred position, and another click or set of clicks to get the front seat where you want it to be. Ie the front passenger seat is not linked to the rear seats memory function.

Sounds about right. Good thing I never ride in the back.

On a side note @moclippa - is there wind noise to speak of in your luxobarge? I remember 1st gen suffered from some hissing due to the driver mirror.

Yes there is. But I noticed the gasket on my front windshield is clearly misaligned so I’m hoping service will fix that. Sending it in tomorrow for my first 1k service.

So far what's the verdict of the 23MY owners? What are the stuff you wished were different and better? What are the shortcomings and issues you would like to be addressed? Knowing what you know now, would purchase again?
I am still debating whether to go ahead or wait for another year for issues, if any, to be ironed out and the addition of autonomous driving level 3

I understand that level 3 is primarily not about tech availability but the authorities' approval - not sure if Genesis would go ahead and release it GA not having a unified legislative approach. It's not Tesla, which seems to be borrowing the page from FB playbook - move fast, break things, (get f'd **).

Correct. No level 3 for the G90 yet nor it's approved in the States but was wondering if there is any update on these 2 subjects to help me decide

I think the big tell-tale will be when we hear a conversation and some resolution to the most pressing problem in that autonomous driving conversation - who is liable in accidents where the tech is involved. It can either go through the legislative process or (worst case) will go through courts and their precedent practice. Until that is solved I don't think we'll see much progress there.
