A family member just bought a w223 S400 (Which in the middle east is the lowest engine spec S class you can buy). The car is largely stripped of comforts, bringing it down into a more reasonable price bracket, but with standard leather seats, (Effectively removing the one thing that meaningfully makes the w223 a better car than the G90) giving the S no advantages and a significantly higher price tag than the G90. The two cars were side by side but I didn't take a photo. I would say though that seeing them in person side by side from the exterior the G90 was way nicer than the W223.
I honestly almost pulled the trigger on the W223 s500 over the g90 and after seeing the two side by side I'm glad I didn't. Was also speaking to the CFO of a company I used to work for that leased a little over 30 2022 W223s, and they were saying the amount of issues in those cars that require dealer service annually is quite high. They made a decision to switch to the 2023 BMW 7 Series instead for the next round of leases.
The only things that truly bug me in my G90 right now are:
1. No rear massage seats and no second ottoman that comes down from the front passenger seat for the Middle East. Not expected to be available until 2024.
2. Wind noise is is higher than I would expect. Its as bad as the wind noise in a W223 (so not the worst) but you would expect a quieter cabin. I found a snag in the front windshield rubber gasket, and I suspect that is somehow causing it, so I'll be asking the dealer to fix it on the next service
3. I wish they learned a bit more from the W223 about how to get the seats more comfy in the rear
4. No rear seat pillows at launch for the Middle East - currently trying to get the OEM
aftermarket ones in the same color as my seats - so far can't find any globally. I can only find them black.
5. I have to manually reset the arrangement of the passenger seat every time I sit in the rear seat. There is no way to automatically do all that. You are given three one click options they give you, and can't default the seat into any of them.
6. The SC version in the US has nicer wheels than the ones sold in the Middle East, and I have no way of getting those here.
7. Sound system is absolutely one of the best I've ver heard, but one of my rear speakers buzzes on one very specific tone that I've only ever heard on two tracks. Still, I've asked the dealer to look at it during the next service, because that shouldn't be happening.
