If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Headlights turning off and on intermittently

I have had my 2015 Genesis sedan for 5 months (I purchased it with 12k miles on it). On 8-10 different occasions, at night, my headlights unexpectedly turn off for 5-6 seconds, flash back on for a few seconds, turn off for a few seconds and then turn back on. Dealer says they can't get this to happen for them so they are doing nothing about it.

Has anyone experienced this? If so what was the problem and resolution? Thanks
I had this happen a few times on my 2016 Genesis. I took it to a dealer, they could not duplicate the issue. The last time it happened was two nights ago. I have received an extended warranty on the multi function switch. It has been suggested to by the dealer and contact the zone manager for Hyundai. I will do that and see if the faulty headlight issue has anything to do with the multi function switch. This is to dangerous to ignore. I let you know how it goes

I'm really late to this but this just started on my 2015, did they end up fixing it? I'm taking it into the dealership in a couple days.

Dealership just replaced mine no questions asked under the extended warranty.

I've had this same issue twice, I have a 2013 Genesis R Spec. The first time when my lights would flicker while using the turn signals, the car was still under warranty. So it was fixed for free, the multi function switch was replaced. Fast advance 3 years and I am experiencing the same issue again! But of course, the dealership balked at repairing again for free since the car is no longer under warranty. I believe this to be a safety issue and I have lodged a complaint with the NHTSA. There are already several complaints registered with the NHTSA. If everybody who is having this issue register a complaint with the NHTSA, it might inspire Hyundai to do the right thing and issue a recall for this safety issue. I believe the TSB #20-BE-009H notice that was issued is only for a couple years models 2015 - 2016. This issue is obvious far more widespread then just a couple model years.

I heard somewhere that Hyundai extended the warranty on the light stalk to 15 years?

I have a 2016 Genesis (I bought it in 2019 with 17,000 miles on it)and my lights have "flickered" off/on in the automatic mode as well. I first reported it to the local dealer in May 2020. Of course they could not replicate it, so did not do anything. Since then I have reported it twice. I just got pulled over by the police in our town and was given a verbal warning about this headlight issue. Currently my car is in the dealership now for a week and a half. They can not duplicatethe problem. I have called Hyundai customer care and I have a case number. I'm waiting for the case manager to give me a call. I am ALSO having an issue with the analog clock "stopping" then when I start the car, the clock "catches" up and resets to the correct time. This last time it also reset my odometer for Trips A & B to zero. It appears some kind of "freaky" electrical issue is happening. Any recommendations???

Have you previously had the multifunction switch replaced under the extended warranty? If not, this is a known issue. The problem will occur randomly and can be days in between occurrences. You might need to inform/remind them of the extended warranty. Find and print it out for them if necessary. If they still refuse, find another dealership. I had mine replaced last year at my local dealership after describing my symptoms and informing them of the extended warranty. They didn't blink an eye

I have had mine do this few times but it happens very quickly so I am not out of headlights for long but its indeed a little worrisome. What needs to be changed for this, the stalk?

I believe it's the entire stalk.. when my switch was going bad, it wasn't frequent and the lights cutting out didn't last long either, but it was unsettling when it would occur on poorly lit back roads and seemed to happen in combination while turning. I thought this issue might be returning recently as I experienced something similar, but not exactly the same. There was one day 2-3 weeks ago, just my driver's side headlight flickered and then went out twice within an hour or 2 and stayed out. The headlight came back on when I switched the switch to headlights on instead of auto. This fixed it both times and it hasn't occurred since.

Was it fixed? Did they go out in Auto mode or regular mode?

Yeah, would be scary on the Turnpike. I imagine it takes a fair number of times to happen for a recall.

I had the stalk replace at my expense and the problem was fixed. I doubt this issue had anything to do with the auto setting. I wouldn't drive with the auto setting on the turnpike. Just so folks are aware this isn't just the lights. Its like the whole dash electrical system.

At your expense? It was my understanding that Hyundai extended the warranty for that part for 10yrs....

I’m now having this issue on my 2015 Genesis. The lights switch to “OFF” when in auto, and using my turn signal.

There doesn’t appear to be an equivalent TSB for us in Canada, that I can find. 20-BE-009H in USA.

Has something been issued for this in Canada? Can anyone help? *please*

I have a Canada General warranty which *should* also cover this, but the dealerships are notorious for simply saying something isn’t covered. I had to battle with them last time for my smart key module.

The 10 year warranty is for the powertrain only.

He's not talking about the 10/100 powertrain warranty. He's talking about a specific warranty for the faulty turn-signal/headlight switch that extended coverage on that one part to ten years, or something like that. It's got nothing to do with any other warranty periods.

Here’s a test for anyone having flickering headlight issues while activating the turn signal. So when you’re activating the turn signal stalk, try grabbing it lower on the stalk below the tip that twists to turn on your headlights. I’ll bet you won’t experience the flickering. It’s not a fix but a “work around”. Please report back here your findings. Thanks!

Hello Everyone., We have a 2016 Genesis 3.8 sedan (137,000 km) and occasionally last fall it started turning off the lights when we would signal to make a turn. It has progressively gotten worse and now seems to decide at any time to turn them off after we signal, sometimes a few miles down the road at 100 km per hour! The only way we have been able to reduce the chance is (a) not drive at night (b) make sure the auto light feature is on. It also happens during the day but it is not a safety risk during the day. We have put in a call to a dealership for an appointment.
My questions are - have any of you gotten a resolution? Did they admit it is a Hyundai/Genesis problem.? What was resolution and approximately what was cost?
