Reported Issues with the Genesis GV60

10-80% charge in 18 minutes. That is their selling point.
The claim is accurate. Given a fast charger that can actually deliver its rated speed, the GV60 can do this. But finding that charger is akin to finding a unicorn.

Add to the “know issues list” Faulty rear back-up lamps (moisture inside of both since delivery) + of course this week’s recall for exploding seat-belt tensioners.

wait there's a recall for what? lol I can't even get my car serviced.... rip

Okay I've read through all 29 pages of this "Reported Issues With the GV60" posting. I am considering purchasing a 2023 GV60 Advantage for my wife. We live in the Bay Area and I have found a car at Stevens Creek Hyundai/Genesis. I have some questions:
1. Is this dealership reliable and responsive? I saw some have concerns about dealerships that handle both Hyundai and Genesis vehicles concurrently and I've also read some postings where the owner is unhappy with the service situation.

2. They actually have an Advantage model and a Performance model either of which would be acceptable but my wife really doesn't need the added HP. Is there anything else significant we are giving up getting the Advantage vs Performance?

3. How difficult is it to use scheduled charging at home? I want to be able to schedule charging for off peak times using the car's app.?

4. What is the most realistic assumption for range for the Advantage assuming smooth driving and 5-10 over speed limits? Advertised as 248 miles.

Hi Saratoga, Can’t help much with that dealership (glad you aren’t purchasing in my market lol, not a good experience on multiple levels so far - fingers crossed they will get better). You might want to stroll around this forum regarding after-sale support and such b/c a number customers on this other GV60 forums and Reddit have some serious unresolved issues.

Both Hyundai (anti-theft) and Genesis (seat belt-pretensioner) recalls could jam up the already hectic service departments for some time, so you might want to keep that in mind as well. Parts supply chain from Korean is still an issue sadly. Most folks seem to be finding their cars to be pretty much perfect right out of the gate, others (like us) have had issues since purchase.

We ended up with the Performance and absolutely love the extra features (see reviews on youtube). While we haven’t pushed the Boost button often, just the general powerful acceleration might keep us out of trouble with the many inattentive drivers on the road (brakes aren’t the only thing and can save your bacon in a potential wreck).

Scheduled charging has been tested 2x and seems to work very well with our home charger.

I bet you’ll like either flavor as they are both loaded. We love the car - not so happy with the purchase/after sales support from the dealer network nor Genesis Corp US.
Lastly, this forum has been a great source of information from real owners and fans alike.

All the best on your decision.

I bought mine at Stevens Creek. Sales was OK. But don't expect to do anything but purchase the vehicle there. If you are close to SJ, sure... otherwise, you might think about Dublin, whose Service Dept. seems more responsive (though I haven't brought mine to them yet).

I had Stevens Creek Service look at an issue. I will never bring my car back to them.

As you may have surmised I am located in Saratoga so Stevens Creek is much closer than Dublin. After sales service is extremely important to me. I previously had bad experience with Stevens Creek Porsche so I wound up taking my Panamera up to Fremont where the service was outstanding. I don't mind driving a little distance if it really makes a big difference but Dublin is kind of pushing it for service. I'm curious if Dublin will send a flat bed down and do a loaner exchange which Fremont Porsche would do for us?? I guess I'll have to give them a call.

Artie,
Could you be a little more specific about your problem with Stevens Creek? What was the issue you took it in for and what was their response?

Rear-end shimmy, wobble, vibration was the reason I brought it in. They said they re-balanced the tires but it didn't appear so, as the balance weights were in the same configuration before and after. And... the vibration / shimmy was still there. No change.
If they tried and failed (though they said it was 'better'), they should have made another appointment, booked me a loaner, and dug more deeply into the issue.

But... the way they returned the car really irked me. It was filthy (white interior). The mechanic (I assume) who drove it, got grease and filth on every surface touched. Every surface, from the steering wheel, shifter, center console, touch-screen, door handles, seat and arm rest. It was a mess... as well as the wheels, which had handprints and grease all over them. Having been driving 'luxury' brands for decades, I've never had a car returned to me in this kind of condition. I complained, and someone came out, apologized, and 'cleaned' the interior.

Also, as 'helpful' as the sales staff was when I was deciding whether or not to purchase the car... they basically ghosted me immediately after the purchase, and it took too many calls, emails and texts for them to assist in arranging a service appointment for me.

Ok thank you for the explanation. I agree that treatment was not acceptable. I will certainly plan to meet with the Service Manager in the event we decide to move forward with our purchase. Just out of curiosity, will the Dublin service center provide you with a loaner and pick up your car down here in the South Bay?

I just wanted to add a few quick replies in regards to my thoughts for the Advanced. Can't really reflect on Stevens Creek as I'm in Socal, but I think I recall them having a bigger markup than other dealers? So definitely make sure to shop around before making your purchase.

I have the Advanced version, the main differences are as follows: No boost button, less HP, no hugging / massaging chair, no smart key, slightly different interior. There are more differences of course, but these are the ones that stick out to me.

In regards to the boost button and less HP, I find that I don't feel a lack of either of those. Punching down on the go pedal (can't call it a gas pedal if there's no gas amirite?) is plenty responsive and fast enough that I can easily move in/out of traffic with minimal interruption to others. I don't like going on the freeway and moving into a different lane just to hold up other people, so the power is still definitely there when I change lanes and easily speed up to keep up with the traffic. Still a huge improvement over my previous car, which while not an impressive vehicle, wasn't a shabby Honda Civic with no power either. (Not ragging specifically on Civics, just commenting based on my experience with my wife's old car which was all noise and no power...)

In regards to the hugging / massaging chair, I also don't feel a lack of it. I took a road trip to Utah last year, and did a single 14+ hour drive back. Previously driving past 2 hours would give me butt/back pain in my old car which was already designed to have "better" seats and even got better ratings because of that, but this car is even better in the comfort level. I probably would forget to use it even if I had it, so no regrets in that department either.

No smart key is probably the only thing that I wish I had, because the lack of smart key also means there is no key card and no option to get it as it supposedly wouldn't work with the Advanced version, even if I bought another key card from Genesis. There are still plenty of ways for me to access the car without issues, like I can still lock/unlock with the my phone app, the keys, and the face/fingerprint recognition. I didn't think I'd use the face/fingerprint that much, but I found that it's extremely useful when I go to the gym because I don't want to carry a bunch of keys with me there and have to leave it in the locker room, but it often takes me so many tries to get it started with the fingerprint that I have to just sit and wait for the unsuccessful timeout to complete... And my wife has a really shallow fingerprint or something and she has even less success, but she also has the same issue with her phone so unsure of how she compares to the general population.

For the different interior, I actually like the Advanced version more than the Performance. The performance has this diamond stitched pattern while the Advanced has just a flat leather with almost matrix like pattern of vented holes. I think the type of leather might be different as well, but honestly it depends on your personal preference and I really like this design better instead. I think there are some other differences, like the pattern on the pedals are different too I think, but all just aesthetic stuff.

4. In regards to range, I'm a little heavy on the pedal myself, but I have an estimate of around 180 - 200 when charged up to 80%. Since you do want to keep your vehicle around that range of charge (and not 100% most of the time), I just consider this my real world scenario range. Range was previously stated at much higher when I drove mainly local around my house, but that dropped significantly when I took my previously mentioned road trip up to Utah, which was all highway and all fast. I planned the road trip by using the ABRP app, but at one point we hit a charging station that was all malfunctioning, we were on less than 10% charge, and the range showed that there wasn't enough to make it to the next charging station about 30 miles away... Luckily we met a very kind local that had a charger at his house, so we sat in his driveway and charged for an hour, which was enough for us to make it to the next charger with the car showing about 10 miles to spare.

My findings during that experience was that, prior to that, the range showed didn't match what we actually drove, but the ABRP app is pretty close in estimations. However, later on, during the very nervous drive from that local's house to the next charging station, I found that being very careful to drive while watching the car's power consumption meter, you can try not to exceed 1 block of the meter gauge at all times (which will probably limit your speed to max around 60mph unless you're going downhill) and you will meet/exceed your estimated range. At all previous points of driving, I had consumed more range than my car had estimated I would (e.g the car said I had 190 but by the time I had driven 120 miles it had only 20 miles left etc., not accurate numbers but just an example), but only on that drive I was able to exceed the range. (Car at that point estimated 35 miles left and I drove 30 miles, but by the time I arrived at the station, I had probably like 10-15 miles range left).

Overall, charging or finding charging stations are usually not in my day to day thoughts, only if on a longer trip, or if I forgot to charge overnight...)

Sorry for the huge wall of text, but hopefully you find some of this info helpful!

I went to through the Concierge who, while knowing nothing about the car, nor understood the issue, was extremely helpful in getting me in touch with the Dublin Service Manager... who in turn was extremely motivated to assist.

I am about 25 min. away from Dublin, so it was the Valet service was offered, as was a loaner. As I said, I did not go to Dublin for service, deciding that I'd live with the shimmy until my 5000 mile tire rotation. But at least in theory, The Service Manager (Richard) was very attentive and said that being a Genesis owner, I was afforded any time I wished to schedule my visit. I appreciated that remark.

As an aside... I posted last week that a pothole ripped apart my two right tires. The new tires I was fortunate to have installed at a tire center which was only 2 blocks away (!) would not have been my first pick, but I was without a choice. They put the OEM Michelin's on the rear, and the two new tires on the front. If the shimmy / vibration hasn't gone away completely, it's 95% gone, and unless I'm concentrating on feeling it... I don't.

I bought my car from Stevens Creek, at MSRP no markup in November, had issues in scheduling service with both Dublin and Stevens Creek. But if you call Genesis Concierge you will get appointment sooner. I have scheduled charging many times and it works, for the past few months weather has not been great and also I drive very hard, never focused on efficiency. I get the range any where from 200-230 based on the weather (I have Performance edition)

Thank you very much. We are moving forward with the purchase but we are going with the Advance model. Drove it today and it is a birthday present for my wife and it has more power than she will ever use.

Artie,
Thank you very much for all your information. FYI Stevens Creek has a new General Service Manager. He has been with Hyundai for 16 years. I met with him today and I showed him your story. He told me he wasn't here when you brought your car in for service and he was specifically moved to the Stevens Creek location to replace the previous manager and bring improved customer response and satisfaction. I was impressed with his attitude so hopefully the kind of service you experienced is a thing of the past at Stevens Creek. Also I was told today that the Genesis portion will be splitting off and moving down the street sometime later this year. Apparently Hyundai doesn't want Genesis combined with Hyundai in the future.

Zedster,
Thank you very much for all the great information. Yeah the range is the only concern we have about the car, but it will be used primarily by my wife for local driving with an occasional short trip (100 miles +/-). I'm thinking if we do a longer trip we will want to stop after two hours anyway so that would be no more than 150-175 miles so assuming we leave with a full charge should have plenty of miles left to find a working charging station. I guess now that Tesla is opening up their SuperChargers in a worst case we could always stop at one of those.

I also purchased from Stevens Creek Genesis. I bought it during the period of time when they had a $5k mark-up. During that time the sales folks had very little working knowledge of the car and its features. Hopefully that has improved. After I signed the papers to buy the car, they then tell me that they actually lost one of the key fobs and they would email me a service work order. Days passed and no work order. I called and texted the sales folks and was basically ghosted. I finally got in touch with the Sales Manager who had someone email me the service work order. This took two weeks of constant phone calls and texts to get this done. The service department would not order the key fob without a service order. When it's time for service I think I will try the Dublin dealership. As to which model, my wife was fine with the Advanced and so was I until I tried the Performance. I bought the Performance. I just wanted a little more power and the seats felt better to me. The Performance is supposed to have a better suspension. When testing both cars we could not tell the difference. I've mentioned it before, even though they call it a Performance model, to me its cruising vehicle. At times it feels floaty and like I'm driving a boat. But that's what I kind of wanted. It's much different than the M2 I sold. Buy the car that you like and fits your needs.
