If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

Mine had the noise at 1200 KM, replaced rear diff at 4700 KM, now at 13,000 KM with no issues.

Absolutely awful experience this time with the dealer! They claim 4 people drove the car now and no one can hear whining noise… Their suggestion is to get second opinion at different Genesis dealership. Now I have to take time off from work to be able to do that, as all other dealers are further away. I’m just disappointed… this supposed to be “piece of mind” ownership experience and it turns into little nightmare.
I’m just worry rear diff will do some serious damage to the car, as time goes by.

Yeah, I've heard that a few times...dealerships don't want to take responsibility for anything. That was my worry but the service here has been great and they confirmed it was the rear diff and ordered a new one within 3 days of my initial complaint.

I drove about 3,500 KM on the bad one while I waited for the new parts and it didn't cause any problems.

Anybody have this issue on a 2023 model? Though I doubt they changed anything for 23.
2023 MY SP 2.5 started to hear the noise today.

Yup, I did almost immediately. Built in July.

I've searched through here but can't find it, has Genesis put out anything official about the rear diff issue? My dealer is nice but clueless. I don't think they sell enough to have had anyone else complain about it. It would be nice if I could just point the service manager to something specific from Genesis detailing the problem and the need for replacement.

I would think there should be a technical bulletin but I'm not sure we can see those?

My 2022 GV70 2.5T manufactured in spring 22 is currently at the dealer for the rear diff. replacement for the hum sound. I asked the service rep last week when they picked up the car for the 8000 mile initial service if there was any Genesis tech bulletin for this issue, and he said he was not aware of one. The service mgr test drove the vehicle last week and could hear the sound, so a replacement part was ordered. I had put a copy of the repair summary that was added in a prior post in this thread, but that rear diff p/n was for a 3.5 Gv70. The service rep told me the p/n difference, and that the replacement part would take 1 or 2 day delivery to dealership. Maybe the part is now stocked at the Alabama plant. I will update when I get the vehicle back this week.

Thanks. I'm going back next week and hopefully get the service manager to ride with me until he agrees the sound is not right. I just might have to take him on an all day ride, but I'm pretty sure I can make it whine whenever he talks, and then I'll ask him to repeat what he said. I'll do that a couple of times to stress the point if he's not coming around. I rarely drive the car but find it very annoying when I do. The 22 model we traded in with 25K miles on it did not have the whine.

I took a video of the sound, showing the speedo and tach. With me controlling the car, I was able to optimize the sound.

The first time I visited the dealer about the sound, they made some adjustments to the car and the sound went away for a very short while. The second time I went back about a month later, I gave the a copy of the video before I got there. No problem getting the repair approved after that visit. My car is now whine free.

Finally was able to get an appointment to have my differential replaced for the 2nd time. It’s quiet at the moment. Fingers crossed. 🤞

Just got my GV70 back today after an oil change and the replacement of the rear differential unit to fix the "humming" sound. It appears that this fixed the problem. Dealer had the vehicle about 1 week including replacement part delivery and install. Too bad Genesis at least doesn't at least send out a tech bullitin pertaining to this issue to their service depts.

Does anyone have a "video" with the audio of the noise?

I was curious about this and wanted to look out for it in my new GV70. I'm guessing this is the noise people are hearing:

Pretty helpful video as the guy is a Hyundai mechanic and you can hear it both on the test drive and when he has it lifted up at the shop (especially loud). He identifies it as a transfer case issue and after he replaces it at the end of the video, the sound goes away. I'm not super knowledgeable about cars, so I'm not sure if a transfer case is related to the differential, but my takeaway from a quick Google search is that the two are related somehow.

People who have had the whining, please feel free to comment if the noise in the video isn't at all what you were hearing and I'll delete this comment to avoid confusing others.

Same Noise starts around 20mph 40-50 is a lil low 50-60 gets louder maintaing speed it goes in and out
they are replacing differental hope it fixes it

Curious if anyone is having this and if we should take it in.
Our gv70 is 2 months old with 2k miles currently. We have noticed if you are barely touching the gas pedal to Maintain a steady mph there is a very slight whine from the rear end. Once you give it slightly more gas it goes away. Same happens when letting off the gas, if you ready to brake and slowly let off the gas at the moment of neither acceleration or coasting the whine appears again until you either give more gas or take your foot off the gas pedal completely.
I have read the gv80 is having this issue and it’s the rear diff.
Thoughts? Or is anyone having this issue? We have the 2.5
Same started around 2-3k they are replacing diff

Glad I did a gentle 5000 mile break-in despite everyone saying it's not needed. There's a reason they use molybdenum grease when assembling diffs. Break-in period isn't only about the engine.

Did break-in too, as I always do. Didn’t make a difference. I’m waiting for my 3rd diff replacement…

I think all of them will eventually have this issue, just a matter of when. I had it at 1,200 KM. I'm at 13,000 now and have had no other problems with it. I don't think it has anything to do with break in.
