  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sub and Amp Install

I'm gearing up to put sub/s in my g70. I'm typically a 15 type of guy but the smallish trunk precludes that size enclosure so it'll probably be 12s. Probably gonna use an LC2i loc (or similar) for signal.

Check out the Rockford Fosgate P500-12p. It's only 12" but I find that it is perfect for the Lexicon 15 speaker setup. With the volume issues with the factory head unit, it doesn't make sense to use a lot of trunk space with a huge box with amps.

probably referring to the lack of loudness/volume the lexicon provides
The line voltage is strong. Using the volume knob level indicator as a reference point or anything else?

That's not nearly enough for me. I've been a basshead since the 90s and have always run 15" subs.
What is the dB's you commonly like?

My 2 Sundown Audio SA-8 V2 are DVC 2ohm hooked up to a Hifonics Brutus 2000.1D wired at 2ohm for 1000watts. In the box tuned to 32hz, I'm sure it will measure 130-135dbs if I metered it. Been told they sound like 12s.

Hits as low as 20hz comfortably and you feel it.

Basshead myself so I know where you are coming from lol

it's been a while since I've metered but the loudest I've been was just under 140. 2 MTX 9500s in my Denali XL on an old school soundstream amp. currently I run a single FU750 15 on a skar rp1200. Will probably get another skar amp. haven't decided on the subs yet but they'll definitely be D4 so I can wire them at 1 ohm.

Soundstream and MTX, love those brands!

I think our cars are running just under a 200amp alt stock, right?

I want to push more audio but don't want to hassle with upgrading my electrical lol hard to find bolt in H/O alt for our engines without making a bracket for it.

I've turned into a Sundown Audio fanboy lol which the owner of Skar, if I'm not mistaken, used to work for Jacob at Sundown Audio.

For your box, you looking for more of a standard port or trying to squeeze a 4th order?

neither of those brands plus many others is what they used to be. i miss the old-school stuff but the new stuff is good and you can get pretty loud for outrageously cheap.
only thing I could find was autozone claiming 150 amps which seems about right. my A3 has a 140 amp alt and I don't get any dimming except at full tilt and it's barely noticeable. I expect something similar with the g70 since it is much newer and presumably more efficient with mostly led bulbs, plus i'm not going for more than 1500w rms. as far as a box just a basic ported box (still haven't) decided on single of dual. I might look into squeezing a custom ported box for a 15 one day but probably not. lol

How did you guys run your gain remote? Just pop off the kick panels?

I used to run a pair of SA-8 V2's off 1500rms in a Jeep Wrangler I had. I tuned the box to around 32hz as well and it sounded great. I miss those little monsters. I had to re-attach my rear view mirror 6 times over the course of a couple of years hah. To be fair, those aren't your typical 8" subwoofer...

Was everyone able to get all the rattle deafened from the trunk? What was your approach if so? Dynamat, etc. I just installed one 15" sub tonight, fired it up and holy rattle. LOL. I knew Genny would need some TLC when it came to noise insulation but DAMN. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

HAHA Absolutely! Everyone I give a demo to cannot believe its only coming from 2 8's. My dad has the 2 SD-3 10's, clean bass! The Owner of Sundown Audio, Jacob, creates some incredible woofers.

For me, The trunk rattle isn't my main concern, my subs are loud enough to overcome that one. But my problem child is the Rear Deck, that is where my loudest rattle is coming from.

Got pics of the 15? I have to see how it looks in our small trunk LOL

I didn't install mine personally, but the shop did pop off the kick panel that right by the gas pedal and screwed it in place and put the kick panel back

Fair enough. I'm going to start with a generic dynamat material and go from there.

What trunk? 😂 The sub box doesn't fit under the hump in the top of the trunk so the sub is sitting right at the back.

I used an LC2i (I think they are around $100 an Amazon). I have the 17 speaker lexicon system so there is an amp in the trunk, behind the carpet panel on the driver side. You just tap into the driver/passenger OEM sub wire, (Brown and White)(Blue and Red). The LC2i does the rest of the work creating your remote signal. Run a power wire and ground and hook everything up! It took me 1 hour for this install and I am by NO means a professional. lol. I need to rerun all my wires so I will try to document my process and put everything in one place for people attempting to add an extra sub to the 17 speaker system in the G70.

Yep. I'm a bit of an addict... started with the SA8v2's but eventually sold them. I've got an SD-3 10 and an SA12v2 in the garage right now and an SML10 on the way for the G70. Oops

I downsized for my Gene's sake.

Had 2 SA-12Rev3 on 2000watts @1ohm from 2014-2022 in my 07 mustang. They lasted a lonnnnggg time and took plenty abuse. The mustang tho, didn't handle the abuse lol lost many pieces to that car 😂 rearview mirrors, vanity mirror, side mirrors, dash pieces, vents, taillights, you name it, it either broke or fell off 😂

To get proper ported box @32hz, 8's were the way to go to still have emergency room in the trunk if needed.

Also got an X6.5v2 laying in my house waiting to be put into my wife's car but I'm having to win her over with the bass (it's not her cup of tea lol)
