  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mass Issue: Genesis Infotainment Driver/User Profile Settings Reset Discussion

Add me to the long list of VERY unhappy owners. Lost both profiles on my ‘23 GV70. All owners, whether Hyundai, or Genesis are owed an explanation, an apology, compensation for the hours of wasted time re-inputting all the settings on both profiles, modifying their update systems so that a push to all vehicles can’t happen without owner input and acceptance. Or letting us turn off the ability to let them auto update our systems. At least that way, updates can be vetted prior to trashing thousands of systems. Just really hoping this wasn’t a hack. If it was, Hyundai is going to need to really beef up their data security practices. If these vehicles can be hacked like this, it’s totally unsafe.
But this wasn't an update gone awry. It was just some major system issue. Until one accepts OTA updates, they can't push one out one's car. I spoke with Genesis to ask why I wasn't getting OTA updates and after digging into my user profiles for both our 2023 GV70 Sport Prestige, it was learned, we had not yet accepted the T's & C's to accept OTA updates. They sent a link to each of us for both cars, but the system to accept OTA updates T's & C's is down, so we have yet to be able to accept them and yet my GV70 self destructed all settings.

I LOVE LOVE my GV70. But something as simple as system updates shouldn't require one to accept some mythical Term and Condition. Once logged into Connected Services, they should simply be automatic. Why Genesis has to make this so freaking difficult is beyond me. My 2019 Mercedes E450 got OTA updates and I never once had to sign into some system to accept them.

Happened to me also. So frustrating! Was there a software update, did it do anything positive? Is there a way to save your settings in the app or something so this doesn’t happen again?

I wonder how they “fix it”, meaning was our personal data that was lost stored in some cloud that Hyundai was/is able to restore system/car wide? I’m pretty sure once we lost all of our personal setting and it defaulted to factory settings the local storage was wiped. If all of that data is held outside of the car, that’s an issue of personal data security. I don’t recall that being laid out in the manuals/documents etc.

The big worry is that this could have been an external HACK which could explain why Hyundai and its divisions are being so quiet about it. It’s not good anyway you look at it even beyond the huge inconvenience for those of us who spent hours rebuilding our settings, not knowing Hyundai is supposedly able to restore our PERSONAL data.
Agreed, I doubt they can just 'fix it.'

Anyone monitoring social media on this? Has Hyundai/Genesis even posted anything? How are folks reacting?

Well...since I don’t receive xm sat when my gv80 is parked in my garage...I thought maybe that had something to do with the ota reset fiasco. Guess not!

Happened to me too. Went out Saturday morning needing to get somewhere. Got no time to mess with resetting everything. Frustrating.

Haven’t heard anything. Drove the car today, it is a total mess. Most of the lost settings have been present since the day I bought the car, sitting in the lot with the dealer tech, going through all my digital preferences for 30 minutes. Then, of course, adding more as time went on. Every thing is gone. Sure it can be fixed but it will be a big job!

Oddly enough the GV60 P loaner fixed itself this afternoon and all settings back. Maybe they are slowly rolling out restoration based on what their (lame) servers can handle. Maybe wait till tomorrow before wasting time like so many of us did this weekend? 🤞

I re-entered my profile info only so I could use the car, now I wonder if that was wise, if in fact some kind of restoration is in progress.

I guess that depends on if our data is held in the cloud or in the head unit. If in the cloud (which is a natural security risk for hacking) then you might not have to re-enter everything. If in the head-unit, you might be starting from scratch/re-writing the settings data.

Still there is NO REASON AT ALL why Hyundai/Gen is being so closed/secretive about this even if it falls on a weekend. This is NOT a consumer-friendly company (see also multiple state lawsuits for lack of timely response from Hyundai on excessive theft issues with many models of their cars). Great car, sketchy company!

Agreed, customer service doesn’t seem to be real important to them.

Maybe they don't know yet? This is day two and a weekend. I imagine they would be scrambling to fix/prevent it again as priority.

Perhaps, yet there are a lot of Hyundai et.al employees who own these cars. I and many others have been reporting to their dealers/CS/and such. Ours went down mid-day Friday. They must know something is going on or my loaner would not have restored itself late today. I’m guessing either they pushed out a very buggy OTA update Friday and hoped no one would have problems or it’s a “friday night system-wide hack”.
I don’t monitor social media, but that’s were I would expect they would post first, then maybe on the app, email, etc. Not a great way to run a luxury (or any other) brand.

Which thread is it? I lost looked through the first five pages...

This is one of three of them.

All the reports of this seem to be from Americans. Any Canadians have this happen too? I haven't seen my car in nearly two weeks, so can't say whether it has occurred.

I updated via USB a few days ago and did not experience the factory reset.
Interesting. So far, from what I can tell, those with the latest USB update have not experienced this.

Mine did not reset

I did not drive it that day though.

I wonder if there was an OTA update that went bad?

I didn't lose mine.

I also didn't drive on Saturday.

I performed the May update via USB.
