  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How to get Apple Carplay/Android Auto in a 2015-2016 Genesis Sedan Ultimate (9.2" Screen) - KPLAY

Just got back from the dealer, the mechanic is telling me that the kplay units are the problem, because they are blocking the rf signal, I had him install the new tpms module and will relocate the kplay units at a later date and see if he is right.

Dyfyffe,

I'm having the same issues with my 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate. I'm having intermittent Check TPMS errors. Sometimes everything works, other times I get the error.

I've replaced all the TPMS sensors wth OEM replacements to no avail. The tire shop indicated it took a while for the sensors to get reprogrammed.

The thing that peaked my interest was that this started happening after I got the KPlay2 and a Compustar\DroneMobile installed back in February. Zero history of this beforehand.

Perhaps the KPlay2 housing and\or wiring is blocking the signal as you indicated?

I'd appreciate hearing how your TPMS experience has been after the control unit replacement.

If that didn't help, where do you think the KPlay2 module be moved to?

Still not sure if the kplay 2 is the problem, the Hyundai mechanic that install the new TPMS module also relocated the kplay 2 unit not to my knowledge, not sure where he put them, my TPMS is working, but I still have intermittent trouble, 4 out of 5 drive it will work. I disassembled my dash to temporary disconnect my kplay 2 unit but it was not at the location I left it. I did not get around to contacting the Hyundai mechanic. My advise to you is, remove the power harness from kplay units and see, please note the screen will not work if you do this, this will be temporary just to determine the klpay is the problem. Good luck.

I know it's an old thread but not sure if I should've opened a new one.... I'm considering getting the KPLAY adapter but taking the unit out of my dash really does worry me, have there been any better documented guides on the install?

There's some videos on YouTube showing dash / infotainment disassembly - It's pretty straightforward & doesn't take long, just take your time.

Once the dash trims are removed, the rest is not difficult.

Yeah - taking off the wood trim is the scariest part. Takes a bit of force to remove it but it will yield to steady pressure - lots of clips holding it on. The structure that the wood is attached to is actually pretty stout.

Yeah, I almost quit trying to remove those dash trims, it took me over 30 minutes, the secret is you need push the trim removal tool deep under trim, I wasnt going far enough initially, was worried I might damage or scratch the dash. The 2nd time it took 10 minutes, the 3rd time 5 min.

I've been in it a number of times - Now I just remove the 2 screws at the end that hold it on, slap the backside with a screwdriver just enough to get a grip on it and pull steadily & slowly back on it and then all the clips release...

Took much longer to describe it than to do it - I'm in there in about 3 min from the time I open the door.

I'm relatively new here. I set up an account when I bought my 2015 Ultimate a few years ago and have loved the resources and content. I haven't had a reason to post until now, and I could really use some help with my HK Play 2 unit.

I've attempted the install it no less than ten times and it still will not work. I've checked the connections and pin settings over and over just to have another failed attempt on a hot day. I've followed the instructions on this thread and just cannot get it to do more than change from CD to a blank screen when I long press the cancel call button. What am I missing? The manufacturer returns e-mails rather quickly, but as you all already know, they don't support installation and their directions are terrible. I could use some help before I lose my mind.

I too would like Apple Carplay/Android Auto but with a 2015 Ultimate I am out of luck. The Car4Play kit sounds interesting but very confusing and installation sounds like a potential nightmare. The electronics in this car especially the audio head unit are already iffy and prone to act up. I just wonder what taking things apart in the dash could do to the already delicate electronics..

I only have 44k mileage with a HPP platinum warranty good to 100k/3 more years so I don't want to do any modifications. If the head unit did act up after installing the Car4Play kit I am sure Hyundai would deny the warranty due to the modification. But even if I didn't have a warranty I would be very hesitant to do the mod.

However I just came across a far better solution and cheaper solution. It's available on Amazon and it has a 7 inch screen and can be mounted on your dash with a suction cup. It can be connected to your cigarette lighter for power and a 3.5mm aux port for audio.

In addition to running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto the unit can mirror what's on your phone screen.

Here is a link to a review of the unit.
Add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to Any Vehicle

Here is a link to the unit on Amazon. There is a $100 coupon bringing the $369 cost down to $269. The $100 coupon may just be a Presidents Day sale only available for a limited time so if you want to buy with the $100 discount you should act quickly

It's not perfect of course but I'm willing to try it and with Amazon's 30 day return policy what do you have to lose. Another advantage of this unit is that it's portable so can be used in other cars you may have that don't have Apple or Android. My other car does have Android Auto but I can see a use for this when I rent cars as many rentals don't have Apple or Android.
I am in the same boat. Would really like a AA/AC but have a ten-year 120 thousand mile extended service plan and only have 46,000 miles on my car (2015 5.0 Ultimate)

Is it incompatible with the 2015 Ultimate, or is there a workaround?

That would be great. I'm just frustrated. This should be easy.
It's easy, the instruction is what make it seem so difficult, I will be available to assist this weekend if you still need assistance.

I'll be available on Sunday if that works for you. I would really appreciate the help! Just let me know and I can drop my phone number if need be.
