  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Winter tires/rims

Zeus69, you win your bet! Discount Tire swapped out the sensors in about 40 minutes and, what do you know, they paired after 10 miles of driving. Next week I am taking it on its first real road trip and the extra peace of mind in having working TPMS sensors is worth a lot to me.

So, the lessons here are:

(1) Don't give up, technical problems usually have technical solutions;
(2) If you ordered TPMS tires from Tire Rack and they don't pair with your Genesis,
ping customer service and ask them for a swap to the correct sensors (Schrader 29109);
(3) If you are ordering a new set of tires (from any vendor) be sure to specify Schrader 29109.

Just a heads up (Canada)... I recently purchased the Genesis 18" Pirelli Winter Wheel package for my 2022 GV70 2.5L Advanced Plus. I was surprised to learn that it included new wheel bolts as well. The winter wheels require a 3/4" socket. The summer wheels use a 7/8" socket (the included wheel wrench). The winter package included an adaptor for the standard wheel wrench (shown in the photo). If you purchase the same be sure to keep the adaptor in the vehicle.73F0B25F-A1A3-464E-B8E8-37B137EB9A3F (1).webp

Yes, good advice to ensure you have the appropriate adapter or separate wrench or socket and breaker bar in the vehicle in case in an emergency, you need to change out the wheel. Have done that for years. However, we do have 5 yrs roadside.

Looks like they have given you spline bolts since the OEM bolts likely don't fit and/or are of different length. That key (adapter) is standard fare with spline bolts. You will note, there are two sizes on the end of these keys, one bigger, and right at the top one smaller. Did you try the larger one to see if a 7/8" socket works?

Yes, I believe you're correct. The OEM bolts don't fit the winter wheels properly. You are also correct re the adaptor socket requirements. It's possible to use a 7/8" socket or the wheel wrench on the top of the adaptor or a 3/4" extended socket on the inside connector... or I guess you could use an extended 3/4" socket set directly on the spline bolts.

If they are actual spline bolts, unlikely, unless of course, you tried to force a socket on as a result of losing the key. Spline are not hex shaped like a standard socket, they have grooves and splines that the key fits onto, thus why you need the key. These are spline bolts I received recently that will be used for my summer after-market wheels.

Thanks for the clarification. My bolts are not the same as yours, they are hex shaped, like the summer ones, my adaptor is 3/4 hex.

So a normal gv70 2.5 in Canada has 19" rims for normal dailies.. The dealer has 18" rims with 235 60 R18 winters on a used model. They are ones you can add on when building one on the gensis website but look to be about $2700. I've got newer winters on a different vehicle with the same size tires but I'm wondering if the rims themselves will fit on a GV70 Advanced plus. Size of my rims is 18/7, bolt pattern 5x114.3, offset 40, center bore 67.1. They are C-Wheels 18's (model X48567). I have MICHELIN X-ICE SNOW 235/60R18 on them that I got last year.

I would suggest this information is available somewhere on line but you could just ask the Genesis Service or Parts departments. All I can say for sure is that the 18” Winter Tire Package I purchased was made specifically for my Genesis.

I believe those specs match...are they from a Hyundai/Kia?

No I got the rims and tires from Costco. I noticed you are also in Edmonton. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the service you have had so far. My sales person has been slow to get back to me on questions I've had.

Should work but the offset is a bit higher than I would like. The 19" x 8" OEM are +39. At an 18x7, I would want +35, else the wheels are going to be inset in the vehicle wheel wells quite a bit, and IMHO, look kinda dorky.

The other factor that is often overlooked, is clearance of the brake calipers. The front monoblock brakes (either just front, or front and back on 2023) are pretty large and depending on the shape of the wheel spokes, they could in fact come in contact with the caliper. That's also why I would prefer to see a slightly lower offset, as it pushes the wheel out and away from the caliper.

The only way to know for sure is test fit on the front of the GV70.

The sales experience was initially good but then my sales person quit and I talked with Jennifer the Manager after that. She's away quite a bit and takes a couple of days at least to get back to me by email. Once I got the car, I don't deal with her any more. Now I deal with Chelsea, the service manager. She has been excellent...always responds to me within 24 hours, always finds problems and fixed them quickly, always arranges a loaner car. The service is great!

I realize we've barely been in summer for a week and a half but I've briefly turned my thoughts to winter and picked up a set of wheels. Also bought a set of OEM TPMS for $230 from a dealer who has an online parts business. TPMS were out of stock for a while so I grabbed them when they were available again. Wheels and associated hardware were 10% off list. Tires can wait until early fall.

I'm happy with the colour and it should be a good compliment to the Savile Silver. I'll do a test fit when the humidex isn't pushing 40 degrees.

  • Fast Wheels FC04 (same company Genesis uses in Canada for their winter wheels)
  • 20x8.5, ET35
  • 23.8lb / wheel

Very nice....Have them powder coated if you plan on keeping them for multiple road salt seasons.

The wheel finish is specifically approved by the manufacturer for winter use. I've never had the finish on an alloy wheel fail on all the cars I've used them on, as long as they are winter use approved. If it's a wheel with polished sections covered in clear coat then all bets are off.

Replying to my own post - did a test fit today and all is good. Lots of clearance between spokes and caliper and everything spins freely. Bought a 2-pack of wheel hangers from Amazon - I'm leaving one in the GV and I'll have one for my wife's Q3 when it eventually shows up.

Good morning. I received my 2023 GV70 Advanced model in the spring and now I need to buy winter tires as it is mandatory for highway driving (Kamloops><Kelowna ) ... I use the highway every 2 weeks.
My question is.. do I buy just tires and put onto existing rims?
I have been wanting larger wheels for my vehicle anyways in summer.. the 19 Michelin Primacy on them now leaves a big gap between the wheel well and I don't like the esthetics. But that may be out of my budget for now.

So I need to concentrate on just getting winters as of Oct 1st, which is the date they are mandatory for highway.
So few questions.... as I'm totally confused.

1. What brand of winter tires do u recommend?
2. Would you stay with 19s or go bigger?
3. Do you all generally buy winter wheels as well or just install onto existing factory ones?
3. In Canada what kind of prices am I looking at?

Thank you:)

You need the 3 peak mountain symbol I believe, which eliminates my favorite tire, The Continental ExtremeContact DWS06+. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport All seasons have it I think.

In Ontario here and I have always had two sets of tires and wheels. I put Continental Viking Contact 7 on my stock 19", and sold my Michelin Primacys. The Vikings are awesome winter tires. Put them on my son's car as well. Then bought an aftermarket set of 21" wheels and tires for summer.

I tend to buy all my tires from Blackcircles.ca when they have sales of up to 12% and soon, manufacturers will start offering rebates on purchase of 4 tires.

Do you want one set of wheels and tires all year round? If so, then you have some choices of all weather tires that serve like an all season tire, except all weather have the 3 peak mountain symbol that will allow you to drive in winter. Michelin cross climate comes to mind as a leading all weather tire. My son moved 5o Vancouver last fall and drove there with his Vikings, and when his Viking Contacts are done, he will be going with Michelin cross climate so he can head to slopes in winter. He has an apartment so no room for 2nd set of wheels.

Or, you do like I did, get winters for your stock 19" wheels, sell your Primacys, and then look for summer set in Feb March.

I don't like the idea of having two sets of tires and one set of wheels. Taking off and putting on twice a year could damage the tire bead over time.
