  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Winter tires/rims

Winter in northern New Brunswick , Canada is settling in.

My GV70 dealer (Halifax) suggested 18" rims and winter rated rubber (235/60R/18). The complete package (tires, rims, sensors), as offered, was ~$3K

Here is my cost conscience winter alternative to the 21" Waffles on my 2022 Sport Plus:

2011 Hyundia Santa Fe 18" rims with a 41degree offset. Due to the size of the front brakes, the rims require a small wheel spacer (I purchased 5mm spacers which provides more clearance than necessary) and aftermarket wheel bolts (M14 x 1.5 with a full 40mm of thread length).

The used rims were $400.00 (Facebook Marketplace), the spacers were $40.00 (Amazon.ca), and the bolts $39.95 US (Lugnutguys) online.

FYI: We get a lot of winter road conditions and winter generally lasts 5 months. For those shopping for winter tires, check out the Bridgestone Blizzak dm-v2....outstanding.
$3K? Holy moly.....they're trying to make a pretty penny on that steal. Good move on the hyundai wheels...actually just picked up an 18" set for $375 for winters for my father's 2020 Santa Fe. Great alternative. Actually saw a set of 19" off a late model Tuscon for 500 but wanted to stick to stock size.

I probably would not have used the spacers as they are unlikely hubcentric, unless you needed more clearance for the calipers.

Make sure to get hub centric rings in this scenario.

Thought I’d share an update. I took my car to the local Genesis dealer and they were unable to pair my aftermarket sensors to the TPMS. Very frustrating. You’d think an outfit like Tire Rack would sell an item that is programmable with the specific vehicle. Only option is to purchase OEM sensors, which is a bit of a cluster. So thumbs down to Tire Rack for selling a non-compatible item, and to Hyundai/Genesis for making this sensor proprietary. Looks like I’ll be dealing with the warning light on my dash

Interesting. I am in the throws of pulling the trigger on a set of summer wheels and my dealer says since he cannot find any info on the 2023 TPMS, he cannot guarantee the TPMS sensors he provides will work.

I think I saw a post by another owner that the Continental branded sensors from Tire Rack worked, or am I losing my mind?

Or. Just hear me out. Purchase OEM TPMS so you know they work.

Genuine OEM 52940-AR100 VALVE-TPMS 4 PCS Set / 52940AR100 for select HYUNDAI KIA models

How much are the oem sensors?
That's the thing. Here in Canada, they are as much as $129 plus tax a piece based on my previous searches. Did not call the dealer tho. Just like everything OEM, highway robbery. Have always had aftermarket sensors, never once had an issue. I am going to have the local tire shop that installs my tires also supply aftermarket sensors ($50 to 60 per) so they are accountable for ensuring they work. Hopefully by the time I have them installed in spring, aftermarket options will be more prevalent.

$230CAD + tax.

MSRP as listed in the GV70 configurator on the Genesis Canada site is $363.95. which is about $90/sensor.

Cool. Must admit, did not look far and wide 'cause was looking to wheel supplier to include in the wheel/tire package. These guys are out of Waterloo...Cdn source.

For anyone that has purchased the OEM TPMS sensors, did yours come with a washer that goes on the outside of the wheel, between the wheel and the nut that secures the sensor to the wheel? Most I have seen have such a washer. My kit from the dealer did not. Have a question into the dealer but don't think they are 100% sure themselves, so thought I would check here.

FYI Here's 19" Hyundai Santa Fe rims:

Finally - a resolution. The sensors Tire Rack originally matched to the winter wheel/tire package were not correct. Though also made by Schrader, the model was incompatible. They sent the correct ones last week and I had them swapped by my local tire shop, which got rid of the display warning lights (y)

Last week - Tire Rack was still listing that they did not have sensors for our cars. Most places list some knock-off that makes me question if it will work. Only reason I've been holding off on pulling the trigger is the weather....hasn't been too bad outside of that one week late Dec.

Following Zeus69's lead, I asked Tire Rack if they had shipped the correct sensors. For me, too, their answer was no. Tire Rack shipped replacement sensors and my local installer will swap them out tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Good luck; I'm betting they'll work.
Don't be alarmed if the tire pressure readings don't show up immediately (i.e., as you drive off from the installer). It took at least 15 miles (over two separate trips) before they showed up in my instrument cluster.
