  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The GV70 Trailer Hitch Discussion

The large extra quite muffler is in the way. Looking for a replacement muff so the hitch can be more stealthy… stock is obtrusive.

I just had my tow hitch removed from my GV70. I don't have a foreseeable need for it in my life and have never needed or wanted to tow anything with my personal vehicle. Hopefully I'll find someone local in my area who's interested or in need of one.
Hello Niecywoo 26,
If you have any interest in selling the tow hitch you had removed from your GV70 let me know as I need one.
Was it the OEM hitch that came from the factory or an aftermarket type hitch?

Thx

I am getting my Genesis this week and will have an extra trailer hitch to see if you need one. I will not keep the factory installed one but again, if you need one, you can let me know.
Hello G-475666,
I'm looking for a factory tow hitch for my GV70, do you still have 1 available?
I'm located in CT. so would need to work out shipping with you.
Let me know.

Thx

Hi John61, it is the OEM hitch that came installed on the GV70. I had it removed at the dealership and definitely would love to sell it. I'm located in DC. Let me know if you're still interested or how you would like to proceed.

Thanks for getting back to me on this however I have found another solution.
Thanks again!!

Of course. Glad you were able to work something out and find a convenient solution.

Yes, there is a Genesis factory hitch - I'm not a huge fan because it has some pretty ugly parts that protrude out the back. I was going to wait for a while and see if any after-market hitches appear like "Hidden Hitch" that would be less obtrusive.
I installed the factory hitch and wiring last month on my '23. I don't understand all the angst about the appearance. It's trailer hitch! You wouldn't install it if you didn't want to work properly. It's a quality product and I have no concerns about it's strength or durability.

Anyone who has been underneath the car would realize there are serious limitations to how the mount can be designed due to the exhaust plumbing and muffler mount. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the "perfect" mount.

Installation is not for the faint of heart but the dealer will charge over $600 for the mount and wiring kit. I seriously recommend that all the frame holes (6) be cleaned and cleared with a thread chaser. They are plugged but still contain undercoat glop. The mounting tolerances are very close so trying to thread the bolts blind into frame holes that haven't been cleaned is frustrating. Also, if you don't have an exhaust hanger removal tool, buy it. You must drop the muffler about one inch to rotate the side plates in position. $9 at Amazon made it a five minute job. Lube the rubber hanger with silicon grease and it will go right back on.

The wire harness is a PITA also. Genesis could have included much of it on the assembly line (like Lexus). You must remove just about all the cargo area components and left side plastic/fabric liner must be popped free and spread open at least 12", depending on your hand size.

Auf dem Internet ist hier noch kein Genesis erwähnt, ist zu neu. Hier musst du den Hersteller per Email anfragen. Hier die Link zur Homepage: Anhängerkupplung kaufen direkt vom Hersteller MVG
Thanks! Specs are 100kg ball weight (which makes sense given the smaller square/rectangular bar), so applicable for bikes, but not so much for a trailer.

The OEM hitch is ugly and expensive.
The Draw-tite is half the price I personally don’t care for the installation process because you have to drill and grind on the frame. Ok for a professional but I self install and don’t want to get involved. However if you only use it for a bike rack it is plenty strong using the 4 factory pre-threaded holes already there. After all the factory hitch only uses the 4 mounting holes.

It looks ok if the bumper is cut

This set up looks great. Can you give more details on how you did it? Did you start with an oem hitch and modify it? Or is it 100% custom? How much bumper trimming was required? Did you do the cutting in the car, or remove the panel? Thanks!

Also, I'm curious if there's any better options available yet. Especially for those of us who just want a bike rack!

Were you able to get your hitch sold? I'm trying to find a trailing solution for my 2022 GV70. How much would you want for it?

I don’t know why you guys in the States have such an ugly hitch. In my eyes it ruins a good looking rear end. I just had a tow hitch installed on my GV70. In Australia the tow hitch has a removable ball mount. When unlocked it drops down and out of the receptor and you can’t see anything. The good looking rear end is not ruined. It wasn’t cheap at AU$2700 installed but well worth it to preserve the look.

I had the hitch installed to mount a bike carrier for our two e bikes. Most of the time the ball mount will be sitting on a shelf in the shed. You might want to ask Genesis why you can’t have the same type of hitch. Perhaps it’s something to do with local regulations or perhaps it’s just cost savings.

Yeah, maybe I should ask for an Australian hitch - I wonder if your exhaust is any different? I think that's the main obstacle for hitches here. I refuse to put a hitch on mine because they are so unbelievably ugly!

I've tried to get a CA or AUS. hitch here in the states with NO luck. lots of liability. The stock hitch is ugly and the hidden hitch MFG's in the USA do not make one for the GV70. the issue is the BIG ugly muffler...

BUT - Two birds in one stone!

Cutting the big stupid muffler off and doing basically straight pipes to the big mouth openings. Now we have surround sound. Maybe some ole school thrush tubes to get the BMW throaty roar. But we'll have lots of room for choices.

Then:
Have a old hitch, making custom end plates and cutting a small square hole in the bumper. A little receiver tab and done!
