If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. How to get Apple Carplay/Android Auto in a 2015-2016 Genesis Sedan Ultimate (9.2" Screen) - KPLAY

Hey everyone. This is not technically "new" information to this forum, but I thought it deserved its own thread instead of being buried in another thread. You can get Carplay via a software update if you have the 8" screen, but those of us with the 9.2" screen (Ultimate package) can't get it like that. Anyway, I'll cut to the chase.

You can get Carplay and Android Auto via a mod involving the head unit. You need to buy a product called "HK Carplay 10W" (or "HK Carplay2 10W") from car4play.kr. It's a little pricey and shipping to the US isn't cheap. With everything, it cost me $437 (including shipping and the LVDS extension cable that they said American Genesis models need). A few others on this forum have also successfully installed it. Basically, KPLAY (one of the interface boxes I was sent) takes the video feed that would normally go to the screen and runs its own software, allowing you to switch between their software (which runs Carplay) and the stock infotainment. Switching is easy too - you only need to briefly hold the hang-up-call button on the steering wheel. Just FYI, it's not natively integrated, so steering wheel buttons won't otherwise interact with Carplay. But I've found Siri to be sufficient, beyond just touching the screen.

Other than that, the whole system runs really well. I've had it for about a week and I haven't run into any issues. You can do wireless or wired Carplay and the same with Android Auto (but you need the newer version if you want it wireless). You can also cast your screen to watch Youtube or whatever you want in the car. But I would advise being smart and not watching anything when you're driving (please).

The one tricky thing about it is installation. They recommend using a professional shop, which I did, but I'm not sure I'd recommend that unless you really prefer not to do it yourself. When installing it, my audio shop ran into an issue getting the touch screen to work. The seller may (or may not) have sent the wrong part, but they were able to get it working after contacting tech support, which is in Korea. The time difference makes contacting them a little difficult. This touch-thing was actually a big issue and turned this into a nearly week-long job because they had no idea what was causing the issue. I asked and it may have to do with the instruction manual provided. It wasn't super clear on what to do and I think the DIS switch instructions may have been wrong. Not 100% on this because I wasn't there and this may be specific to the part I was sent. Also, there's not a lot of information on Youtube or anywhere else about this product, so they were on their own except for the manual and contacting the seller. Either way, they got it working after a week in the shop and the whole thing cost me $750 (their rate is $75/hr, for reference). Not cheap. They did a great job hiding wires and the 2 boxes, but I kinda wish I just did it myself, even though I've never installed something like this.

If you're installing it yourself, here's some reference material:

I'm also attaching some pics of my setup so you can see what it looks like after installation.

In conclusion, KPLAY is a good product. I'm not a fan of the stock navigation, so having Carplay alleviates one of the biggest downsides of the Genesis. If you plan to install it, just know what you're getting into. Hope everyone finds this helpful.
Hello, need some help. I ordered the KPLAY unit however the Korean seller is saying the following:

9.2" screen will not fit with 1280x720 . Normally, We support with 800x480.
If you need 1280x720, then screen not fit well. (there are black screen on top/bottom side)

Have people here ordered the 1280x720 native resolution for the 9.2” screen on 2015 Genesis Ultimate or the 800x480 resolution?

This is the unit I bought and works just fine. I will say though I have not been able to mirror much media other than videos/photos I have taken with my iPhone but I suspect that's more of an apple issue than it is a problem with the unit. KAP TRADER

UPDATED
Many thanks, I actually ordered the KPLAY2 with firmware update to enable 1280x720 resolution. Will be installing soon and post the results.1709664856726.png

I have this one - for 9.2" / Jog Wheel Infotainment. I didn't have any resolution problems, used it right out of the box.

I’m thank you for posting this.
I have a 2017 G80 3.8 ultimate and the screen died on me. I would like to get car play installed.
Any thoughts on the system looking back?
David

Hello everyone, I’ve just installed the Kplay 2 unit onto my Genesis (9.2) however the touch screen isn’t working, I’ve checked all the LVDS connections and everything’s seems fine , I’ve also referred to the charts you have made. Features such as the switching the camera on reverse and end call button are working. Any thoughts?

Running into the same exact problem, not sure if there is an additional connection needed somewhere.

I fixed the problem updating the software for the kplay, it seemed to be a software issue. Kplay is now up and running perfectly!

Great news! I knew we were close. How exactly did you do that? We had my car apart for hours, please advise specifically the trick!!

I'd recheck the positions of your dip switches.... To be honest, my reverse switching never has worked.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Same. I have to switch back to normal mode for the reverse camera to function.

Thanks for providing these photos, they look great. Did the shop hide the 2 Kplay boxes in the dash? Are you using the Apple Carplay via wireless or plugging in with the USB?
But, since it blocks your entire touch screen, you've just lost access to the radio and backup camera. Not mention any of the menu settings. No thanks.
I'm pretty sure that you can switch back and forth to the regular screen and the redirected one.

Where did you find the update file?

Hello guys. Do you know what happened to the official car4play website? It doesn't work - domain is not connected.
I've ordered the Kplay2 unit a few weeks ago (CARPLAY2 10w). Could somebody share the documentation for future reference, please?
Anyway, I already managed to install it successfully thanks to this thread. It was very helpful, much appreciated. I have several outstanding issues that were also mentioned here. I am not sure if you found ways to resolve it in the end. Any help is welcomed:
  • Reverse camera not switching automatically - I double checked the dip switches are correct
  • Kplay switch only with the button - I have an European version and for some reason there is no IBox at all underneath the monitor, so I could not locate where to connect those 2 cables
  • I do not hear anything during the voice calls - the car is connected to both Genesis BT and Kplay BT and it seems they are fighting during the voice calls
The music, maps and the rest of the functions seem to work nicely in the Android Auto so far.
If you know how to solve it, please reply here or DM me. Thanks.

You need to connect the MM CAN wires for the reverse camera and the steering wheel end call button integration, If there is no ibox, you MIGHT be able to tap into the MM CAN wires on the AVN connector B pin 1 & pin 13. See attachment.

Weird... I think I found the product site. But this doesn't seem to have the KPLAY box. Although it is shown in the wiring diagram.

My reverse camera switching has never worked - Plus I'm starting to get LVDS cabling issues, can't seem to find how to order new cables.

Perfect, thanks.. Seems they changed the domain but they apear to have the same products. This is the KPLAY2 box. I've downloaded the documentation from the new site.

Thank you. I will try to ask the reseller to confirm this. And I will give it another try when I find the time and energy to do the whole process again. Everything is so nice and tidy now - all cables zip tied, boxes padded and secured.

Btw. if anybody is having the voice call issues, this is how I solved it. In my phone (Samsung) I created the routine with following steps:
  1. if BT is connected to "Car Audio_0000"
  2. then wait for 10 seconds
  3. then disconnect from "Car Audio_0000"
  4. no action after routine ends
This way the android auto is paired automatically and the Kplay BT is no longer needed (it is only causing troubles). The voice calls then go through OEM Genesis BT which has much better mic and sound quality on both ends.

Hi All, I’m planning to install this in my 2015 G80 ultimate. Can someone please help me where I can order the kplay2 kit?
Looks like their website “car4play.kr” is not working and also in the kaptrader.com I couldn’t find any way to order.
Please Help!!! Many Thanks in advance!!
