Hello, need some help. I ordered the KPLAY unit however the Korean seller is saying the following:Hey everyone. This is not technically "new" information to this forum, but I thought it deserved its own thread instead of being buried in another thread. You can get Carplay via a software update if you have the 8" screen, but those of us with the 9.2" screen (Ultimate package) can't get it like that. Anyway, I'll cut to the chase.
You can get Carplay and Android Auto via a mod involving the head unit. You need to buy a product called "HK Carplay 10W" (or "HK Carplay2 10W") from car4play.kr. It's a little pricey and shipping to the US isn't cheap. With everything, it cost me $437 (including shipping and the LVDS extension cable that they said American Genesis models need). A few others on this forum have also successfully installed it. Basically, KPLAY (one of the interface boxes I was sent) takes the video feed that would normally go to the screen and runs its own software, allowing you to switch between their software (which runs Carplay) and the stock infotainment. Switching is easy too - you only need to briefly hold the hang-up-call button on the steering wheel. Just FYI, it's not natively integrated, so steering wheel buttons won't otherwise interact with Carplay. But I've found Siri to be sufficient, beyond just touching the screen.
Other than that, the whole system runs really well. I've had it for about a week and I haven't run into any issues. You can do wireless or wired Carplay and the same with Android Auto (but you need the newer version if you want it wireless). You can also cast your screen to watch Youtube or whatever you want in the car. But I would advise being smart and not watching anything when you're driving (please).
The one tricky thing about it is installation. They recommend using a professional shop, which I did, but I'm not sure I'd recommend that unless you really prefer not to do it yourself. When installing it, my audio shop ran into an issue getting the touch screen to work. The seller may (or may not) have sent the wrong part, but they were able to get it working after contacting tech support, which is in Korea. The time difference makes contacting them a little difficult. This touch-thing was actually a big issue and turned this into a nearly week-long job because they had no idea what was causing the issue. I asked and it may have to do with the instruction manual provided. It wasn't super clear on what to do and I think the DIS switch instructions may have been wrong. Not 100% on this because I wasn't there and this may be specific to the part I was sent. Also, there's not a lot of information on Youtube or anywhere else about this product, so they were on their own except for the manual and contacting the seller. Either way, they got it working after a week in the shop and the whole thing cost me $750 (their rate is $75/hr, for reference). Not cheap. They did a great job hiding wires and the 2 boxes, but I kinda wish I just did it myself, even though I've never installed something like this.
If you're installing it yourself, here's some reference material:

2017/2018 radio swap in 2016 ultimate?
I got the LVDS extension module... but my car is full fledged Korean and has the connector angled the other direction. So it wasn't needed. No real issues so far. Definitely need to change the KPLAY module power source to switched instead on constant, it sometimes gets confused by my phone...genesisowners.com
I'm also attaching some pics of my setup so you can see what it looks like after installation.
In conclusion, KPLAY is a good product. I'm not a fan of the stock navigation, so having Carplay alleviates one of the biggest downsides of the Genesis. If you plan to install it, just know what you're getting into. Hope everyone finds this helpful.
9.2" screen will not fit with 1280x720 . Normally, We support with 800x480.
If you need 1280x720, then screen not fit well. (there are black screen on top/bottom side)
Have people here ordered the 1280x720 native resolution for the 9.2” screen on 2015 Genesis Ultimate or the 800x480 resolution?
