There are lots of threads and questions re: aftermarket wheels which will fit the Genesis Sedan - I thought it would be good to have one thread to ONLY list wheels which members have successfully used. Suggest replies to this thread with a single line:
(Brand), (Model), (Diameter), (Width), (Offset)

Any contributors?

I would venture to say the current, aftermarket, set-up I have is how the car should have come from the factory. I would love to see the skid-pad and braking performance of my car vs a stock 2009 Genesis 4.6.
I feel I can make a real world statement regarding the difference because I have twice had a 2010 loaner sedan identical in color and options as mine; however, having the obvious upgraded items like suspension, adaptive cruise control, auto-hold brake, etc..
I live 57 miles from my business and I decided to keep the loaner car for 24 hours, so I could play with the adaptive cruise and determine if I could really tell a difference with the improved suspension.
I also drive a lot. I have 32000 mile on my Genesis that I purchased 11 months ago, so I have a fair amount of "seat time"....
Getting to the point of my opening statement:
I drive aggressive. Not abusive, but aggressive. I take corners fast, entrance ramps and exit ramps quickly, etc. There are entrance ramps on my commute that I've grown to know well and also grown to know what my limits are pertaining to the handling capabilities of my car. When I drove the 2010 loaner car home and entered into a fast sweeping right hander style entrance ramp to I-95, the car pushed and scrubbed off speed a lot sooner than my 2009. All of this has nothing to do with suspension (granted, suspension is everything, as are brakes, but both are nothing without grip from tires)

I think Hyundai really fell short by putting a 7.5" wide wheel on our cars. My 2005 Mercedes C230, weighing 3200lbs has wider wheels on it. They are only 17' wheels, but the are wider by an inch and allow for a larger foot print of tire to contact the road.

Here's what I have and what I have noticed about my ride:

18x9" TSW Vortex wheels 5x114.3 with a 35 off-set.
I'm running a very affordable 255/45/18 Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sports at all four corners.
I originally went with an 8" wide wheel up front but soon purchased 2 more 9" wide wheels for the front and what a difference it made in the car's stance and handling during turn-in.

I spent a lot of time determining the optimal set up (even though I now think I'm going to a 19" wheel and possibly a loss in ride quality). I say optimal because with the 18x9 set-up I currently have I swear my car is quieter, smoother, and better handling than the 2010 I had as a loaner. The Bridgestone tires are definitely less noisy that the OEM Dunlops on the 2010.

Here's a picture just after running it through the car wash. I'll try and take some current ones that show the difference in the 8 and 9" wide wheels on the front.

I'm not saying the Bridgestone is the "best" tire, but I'm telling you, it's a "great" tire for the money. If I were to pay $100.00 more per tire for something else, I seriously doubt I would notice a 40% ride and handling improvement. Plus, I go through tires quickly and need to make sure I try to be economical about it.

In the five years that I've owned my Mercedes, I put 18 sets of rear tires (255/40/17) and 13 sets of front tires (225/45/17) I have run 4 different tires on that car. Contis, Kuhmos, Falken, and Fuzions The Falken FK452's were the worst handling and nosiest. The tire I found to be nearly identical to the OEM Conti's were the Fuzion Zr-1's. Man! What a great tire for only $105.00 each! sticky, quiet and the wore well.

Hope that helps!

This thread is a great idea, I hope others help to fill it up!

Scott,

So running 9" wide fronts aren't hitting the tie rods when you do a full turn? I'm thinking about going with 19x8.5 on the front and 19x9.5 on the rear with a 38mm offset on the front and 45mm on the rear.

I'm running Staggered Forgiato-Reventon Vizzo-R 20X8.5(F) 20X10(R)
245/35 R(F) and 275/30 R35 (R) Nitto NT555 tires and tires DO NOT stick outside wheel wells

sorry I'm not sure of the offset but I think they are around 35MM

to me it handles way better than stock and rides nice except for the crappy front shocks that came in these cars

No rubbing at all. Not sure how close it is, but there is no fender rubbing or suspension components rubbing. The 9" wheel really helped stretch out the front 255/45/18 tire. From the front, the car looks a lot more aggressive than it did stock.

The 19" wheel combo I'm getting only has 19x8.5 as an option for the front, but the offset is lower so it should stick out about as much as my current 9" wide wheel. We'll see.

This is interesting - I purchased 17"x8" wheels from Tire Rack last year (for my 4.6) and they scraped the tie rods when you turn the wheel lock to lock. I was told I had to go with 7.5" so this wouldn't happen and unfortunately they only have 6 machined wheels in stock and I don't want to go with machined.

I'm confused as to how your wheels aren't scraping the tie rods. What am I missing?

What is the offset on the wheels you are talking about?

I put TSW Mondello 18x9 on my Genny with 235/50/18 Dumlop Fierce tires. Make sure you have the right offset to clear the front caliper, those things are huge! I had a wheel shop try to sell me the wrong offset wheel and want to put 1.5" spacers, hah! The ride is fantastic, and the look is great in my opinion. The stock wheels are fine, but this car deserves a more sporty wheel.

I had to abandon my plans for the Zigen wheels in my above link simply because they are no longer made and nobody has them. Went with the below in a mirror face 19x9 and 275/40 Bridgestone Potenza RE050a Pole Positions. Note, the bigger brakes on the R-Spec eliminate many wheels. Anything with a lip allegedly is a no-no. Probably will not see them for a week. Will advise and post pictures. Gent by the name of Eric in the below link did a wonderful job of helping. Of course I will not know until I put them on.

For what it's worth....below is a picture taken from below my car, while it was on a rack, of the space in front of the front wheels. In my limited experience with over-sized tires and wheels one of the issues could be rubbing of the tire against the wheel well during a full lock turn. As one can see there is no structure of any kind on the lower part of the front of the front wheel and the wheel well material is a soft fiber glass like material with a considerable of give/softness. In my measuring for potential over-sized wheels and tires, I drive an R-Spec, I found the front of the wheel well to be more of a concern than the rear. The rear of the wheel well is made of the same material but has a hard plastic backing, the beginning of the rocker panels.
Hope this makes sense.

Tires: Toyo Proxes4
Elite Phase 5 Rims (machined/black w/black lip) Front 20x8.5, Rear 20x9.5
Staggered: 245 40ZR20 / 275 35ZR20

Aggressive stance, no problem with rubbing, nice sticky tire, fits nicely in the fender well.

For what it's worth......Just had my new wheels and tires installed. The stock R-Spec wheels are 19x8 with an offset of 39mm (et). The wheels put on are TSW Nurburgring 19x9 with a 35mm offset. They come with a 32mm offset but were shaved down 3mm by the selling shop due to fears that they might rub against the front wheel wells in a tight turn. No problem has occurred. The tires are Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position RE050a's 275/40. They are .4 inches taller and 1.5 inches wider than stock. As one can see there is a considerable amount of room between the brakes and wheels. The closest clearance issue is on the back of the front wheels at a curved suspension piece. Don't know the name of it. Whether you like the wheels or not it's the size that matters in this thread. Here are some pictures.

Nice wheels.

I'm truly convinced this car needs 20's. There is just too much sidewall on those tires.

NSXNEXT,
To an extent I agree with you. However, going to 20's would definitely change the ride making it more harsh. Several years ago I owned a Mercedes E55 AMG that came with 19's and I put 20's on it. Despite it having a two position ride selector, sport/comfort, the car would always be "banging" on certain roads. The choppy ride became annoying after a while. Everything has it's price.
Thanks

Hmmm... It is definitely a matter of taste. From my side, I prefer having just a bit more sidewall. I think that these tires look awesome and fill the gap quite nice. The after market tires that I choose are also about .4 inches taller than stock and I like the effect.

I was not as aggressive on width (I went 245). However, I really like the idea of 270's for the greater contact patch. And it is nice to know that they work, at least with your fitment.

Thanks!

To an extent I agree. All depends on how much sidewall you have and how stiff that sidewall is.

Curious if anyone has gotten a 255/35/20 tire to work on this car?
