If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. New GV70 - Possible Issue - A/C not cold on driver side vents

My wife's 2022 GV80 just started this problem earlier this week. All air is being conditioned and cooled EXCEPT the driver's side vents. It is just blowing in air from the outside. It now is making a whining sound and a noticeable smell like a small part has burnt out. Luckily still under warranty, but the only dealership near us is an absolute nightmare. This is also the third issue she's had with the car in a year. (Bad fuel pump / injector previously). Thinking about trading it in at this point...

Having the same issue with record heat here in Atlanta. 2 vents blowing hot air and two blowing air just a little cooler. Just dropped off with dealer and having to use a rental as no concierge vehicle available. won't even look at it for at least two days.

Welp! Mine just started doing this yesterday and was thinking it was temporary and decided to hop on here and check. Looks like it’s the evaporator or low Freon. Getting the same thing cold everywhere except the two driver vents.

...or low Freon. ...
Freon is the brand name for refrigerants such as R-12, R-22, R-410A, ..., which have been banned from production from some time. The refrigerant that your car uses is R-1234yf, which has the dual brand names of Opteon YF and Solstice YF.

I have the same exact vehicle with the same exact problem so if you get it solve feel free to share and I will do the same.. Great Vehicle overall though!!

Creating this thread so we can see if there are others who have the issue. AC is lovely cold on the passenger side and rear seats. Drivers side set to same settings blowing not cold air. In a previous car this was an issue with the blend door actuator... but that was a 10 yr old vehicle.

I'm going to make sure I have plenty of data/scenarios before I send it off for warranty repair - I'll keep everyone posted. (I'll be checking actual temperature of blowing air, comparing with different outdoor temps, etc...)

I've only had the car a few days... so I'm going to drive for a short bit longer and deal w the AC issue to make sure that if I'm having Genesis service, I can address any other issues all at the same time.

Was seeing if anyone here had any updates on this? My wife's GV70 bought July 4th 2021 in Houston TX is having the same problem blowing hot on driver side, dealership said probably the evaporator but I found a connection I believe is leaking because it has dirt built up on it like it's been leaking. Maybe it's both leaking and Evap idk we'll see.

I refilled my Freon and it somewhat solved the problem. However I still notice the difference in temperature but it’s not as noticeable as before. I still think it’s something else that may be the issue. When I did refill, mine read at 22 and filled it up to recommended and that’s when the driver side didn’t become as noticeable after.

Yes, that looks like a small leak.

Having the same issue on my 2022 GV70. The air is coming out just fine (cold) on the passenger side but hot (meaning outside temp).
I dropped off my car last week and they got back to me today that is the evaporator. I was not able to get a lot of detail of the issue as I was working at the moment I was reached out by the dealership but I was told that they don't even know when the replacement will be here. It appears that a lot of GV70s are having the same issue and the parts are backordered. Lucky me right? specially living in FL lol.
Did you get a chemical smell coming from AC vents when you evaporator is leaking and is it covered on the warranty?

Would refrigerate R-134a work with this vehicle??
Not remotely correctly. Best case is that the evaporator would ice over completely (if there was still some R1234yf in it). Worst case, the compressor would be damaged and contaminate the whole system, requiring the condenser, txv, and hoses to be replaced.

Why do you want to do this?

My 2022 GV70 is having the same issue here recently, and i notice when i turn the temp knobs either way up or down it causes the seat temp gauge dim as i turn the knob, i dont know if this is an electrical problem or is a fuse blown or what all i Know that this vehicle dosent have 30k miles on it yet and already having ac problems they dont make cars like they use to.. I tried recharging the freon and it only made the passenger side even colder and driver side is still outside temp and im in L.A. (Lower Alabama) so its hot hot all yr round..

I also observe the seat temperature gauge dimming when I rotate the respective knob (Drivers gauge dims with Drivers knob; passenger gauge dims with passenger knob). It does not affect the functionality of the AC, however. This quirk/glitch has been present since I bought the car.

Update on our GV70.. they did the same bs 1st round as everyone else.. said they couldn't find a leak and added dye.. took my $400 and kicked me down the road, here we are not few months later and out again.. this time was told evaporator ac blowing good now but just sent back to the dealership 2 days after getting it back because engine coolant pouring out the back of the motor straight on the exhaust it was smoking like fire when my wife pulled into our garage.. always something, still love the car my wife ahhh she's over the petty little stuff could be worse I told her. Just went back and looked we made it 3 months after the initial recharge before it went out again.

Why wait and build data? It sounds like a simple test to determine if the system is operating properly: does the temp coming out of the driver's side equal the temp coming out of the passenger side. A thermometer would be great but simply sitting on one side vs the other should do it.

So, this just started to affect my 22 GV70 as well. Air blows ice cold in the back and on the passenger side, but warm on the driver's side. I wouldn't say it's blow air that's equal temp to the outside air, as here in the low-country it's already 90 degree weather, but it's not as cold. I really feel like this is an actuator/door issue that's preventing the air to be mixed/separated properly. Has anyone received a permanent fix as of yet?

What you need is temperature readings. You may have an issue with the dampers, not the AC sytem itself. Run the AC on maximum and using a probe thermometer, take readings from driver, passenger, center vents. Record the readings and the outside air temperature. Repeat it a few days later. If the damper is intermittant that would help show it.

I don't know how much variation there is across the vents but the dealer should have a spec.
I agree and I would do so BUT the customer should not have to be the one doing it. Given the complaint, recording the temperature from the vents should have been the first thing the dealership did.

Yeah, the dealer said it was normal. That may have been the tech sitting inside on a 68 degree morning and thinking it is nice and cool, all is good. Baffle them with facts.

Got the same problem. It appeared the first time a few weeks ago when it started getting hot out. I found that when my car is sitting in the sun and inside temperature is hot the drivers side will blow out warm air. It did not happen when my car was in the garage or shade and the inside temp didn't get too hot. That's probably why the dealerships can't replicate the issue if they have the car waiting in the shade. Got an appointment for 6/28/24

I was just told a small rock came through the grill of my 24 GV70 and put a gash in my condenser unit leading to no pressure and therefore no AC. Anyone else? I’m thinking there is a major design flaw here. What would prevent this from happening over and over with highway driving?
