  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The GV70 Trailer Hitch Discussion

It’s the OEM hitch here in Australia. I got it from Genesis. Sorry I don’t have the part number.

Nice. Thanks. Now to get one.

A few interesting bits ...................

wonder what the angle grinder is needed for 😧
much cleaner looking hitch, wonder why they made different ones for the 2 markets (incompatible gubmnt regs ??)
not sure why they made the socket for the light hook-up stick out like they did for the US one
huge cost difference between the 2 ($800 for hitch & wiring in the US = $1200 in AU $)

Need to get mine up on a rack & see if there is a way to remount that light hook-up, the rest of it looks OK IMO.

Forgive my ignorance, but with the standard hitch offered by Genesis, does anyone know if you can install just the hardware without the wiring? For those just wanting a bike rack, I assume the wiring is not needed (and also assume that is what is circled in yellow below). I imagine you can install w/out the wiring but may later regret that decision if wanting to rent a trailer.

Yes ! When it comes from the factory, it's the whole pkg. If you just purchase it as an 'accessory' the hitch is sold separately from the wiring harness.
Without the wiring there is no connection for trailer brakes or running lights, but a bike rack would be OK.

In my case I just got it for the bike rack, but it’s a sturdier rack for e mountain bikes. The rack and bikes obscure the rear lights so I use the plug to plug in the racks lights. I got a Thule Epos.

Hidden hitch and Stelth Hitchres makes a nice US part for the GV80. Like better cause i can get it…lol. Wonder what it will take to make it fit the GV70

Frame width
Mounting lug location.
Trashed the GV70 coffin exhaust so i have plenty of room down under..

Hummm

Much cleaner install vs the OE hitch. At a minimum Genesis needs to rethink how/where they have the 7 pin connector mounted !!

I just had my tow hitch removed from my GV70. I don't have a foreseeable need for it in my life and have never needed or wanted to tow anything with my personal vehicle. Hopefully I'll find someone local in my area who's interested or in need of one.
Where are you located

I don’t know why you guys in the States have such an ugly hitch. In my eyes it ruins a good looking rear end. I just had a tow hitch installed on my GV70. In Australia the tow hitch has a removable ball mount. When unlocked it drops down and out of the receptor and you can’t see anything. The good looking rear end is not ruined. It wasn’t cheap at AU$2700 installed but well worth it to preserve the look.

I had the hitch installed to mount a bike carrier for our two e bikes. Most of the time the ball mount will be sitting on a shelf in the shed. You might want to ask Genesis why you can’t have the same type of hitch. Perhaps it’s something to do with local regulations or perhaps it’s just cost savings.
How did you attach the bike carrier? Is there a 2inch hitch mount that attaches where the ball mount would attach?

I emailed Stealth Hitchres about the GV70. Here is their response.

Currently, we do not manufacture a hitch for the Genesis GV70. Our team attempted to develop one on the gas version but were unsuccessful. There were interference issues preventing our hitch design from fitting. We might release a hitch for the all-electric version of the GV70 but that is still undecided.

If you have the all-electric version of the GV70, I will add you to our inquiry list.
---

I respond.. asking them to do a second look and take a look at the towbar as a design possibility.

I bought a Thule Epos which mounts on the tow ball. You are correct, this type of hitch would not work for a bikie rack that mounts in the hitch itself.

I inquired about a eGV70 setup.

I am considering putting a trailer hitch on my 2022 GV70 so that I can attach a UHaul trailer to take my daughter to college and then later use a 4 bike Thule bike rack. Wondering if there is a Genesis branded hitch and whether or not a dealer should install it? TIA any thoughts welcome......

This is the Australian version - it locks with a small key (red knob) and is released with the larger knurled knob - just drops right out. Retention is via spring loaded retention lever (not visible) and the ball bearings that pop out (with some force). When removed there are no visible parts - the car looks pristine! Fittement was by Genesis Sydney. It's a solid unit and really does the job. Design is load certified as per the label. Best of luck!
