  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation Map and Software Update Discussion Thread

I just connected the new wireless car play. Question: Howcome only select icon/apps show up on the car screen and not all of the icon/apps that are on my iphone? Is there a way to add them so that they do show up?

If it works like AA only a small number of apps can be projected.

Well, even on your iPhone only certain apps work with Car Play. But every app that works on your phone with Car Play will now work on your GV60 with Car Play. Just click on the menu button on the bottom left of the Car Play screen on your GV60 and then you can scroll through them all.

Thank you. It appears only certain apps may be supported by Car Play. I wish there were more available.

It's up to each developer to modify their app(s) to be compatible with CarPlay. It's quite a bit of work so most developers don't bother. Nevertheless, there are some great CarPlay apps out there.

Ooooh! Do you mind listing your favorite CarPlay apps? I love suggestions!

I am new to genesis. Within the last month I purchased 2024 G80 Prestige Sport.
I did get the September OTA update. I have searched and found conflicting information.
My question is does the OTA have a system and a map update.?
Where do I find a place to see what is the latest map update?
Below is the information on what I have now, and I am not sure if that is the latest map update.

It may be helpful to search in the G80 forums for your specific update info. I see a few threads regarding this here.

I did search, as I said above but found conflicting answers.

I connected my OBD reader and tested things out in Auto 3. The range of deceleration is certainly much tighter than with lower Auto levels, but does still vary. It seemed to me that the deceleration rate was speed-dependent - lower amounts of regen at low speeds. I could not notice much difference based on following distance or posted speed limit (as is obvious in Auto 0) - likely because the base rate of deceleration was so high, that there wasn't much higher to go.

Still a couple questions come to mind, as it seems to me that there are much easier ways to get what it seems you want:
  1. If you're wanting constant high rates of regen, why note use "Level 3"?
  2. At such high rates of regen, how much are you using the brake pedal? I didn't touch it on my drive, except for scrubbing the last ~10km/h off when I wanted the vehicle at a complete stop for an intersection.
  3. Why are you applying the brake so much during long road trips so as to get your foot tired? When driving on the highway, why not just set the adaptive cruise to maintain speed and following distance? You'd almost never need to touch the brake in that case.
  4. If you don't want to use the brake pedal at all, why not put it in i-Pedal?

Auto level 3 is great. I don't need to use the brake pedal for most situations. If I need more braking, I pull the left paddle for max regen.

i-Pedal is not as efficient as level 3 because it is full time AWD.

I think I exaggerated. I leave it on auto level 3 99.9% of the time.

I remember now why I use auto level 3 vs. level 3. Auto level 3 uses GPS and the regen is more predictable and stronger than auto level 1 and 2. Is there any difference between Level 3 and Auto 3 regen?

This is where my confusion comes from.
The Website says the following vehicles to download an update .
My vehicle is listed with the map version that is shown on the list.
Why does it list my vehicle to download a new version if I already have the latest version?
Where can I find what is the latest version?

Today I just noticed that the EV screen now has a button for Utility Mode. You no longer have to go into the options to enable it. Nice and welcome change, but it would have been better if they added preconditioning-conditioning to this screen.

What is shown there is the latest version for download for all vehicles. The latest version for the GV60 in USA and Canada is still not available for download. It’s only available OTA.

Doesn’t Auto level 3 limit the vehicle to selecting full or no regeneration? Selecting say Auto 1 allows it to scale between Auto 1 and 3 as necessary based on road gradient, vehicle distance, and vehicle speed.

Sure thing.
  • ABRP (A Better Route Planner) - You have to use the paid version of ABRP to get the CarPlay feature. I also have an OBD dongle that connects to ABRP for a live connection to the cars status. This is great for road trips, but I don't bother for local driving. Note that I tend to use ABRP in conjunction with Apple Maps - I think Apple Maps is better as far as navigation goes (gives lane suggestions, works with the HUD & steering wheel screen in new OTA update, etc.)
  • Airshow - This is currently my favorite podcast player.
  • Overcast - This used to be my favorite podcast player, I still use it occasionally.
  • (Weather) on the Way - I paid for the lifetime subscription for this. It's a map app with built in weather. It will show you the projected weather on your route, and also can show live radar. The weather in California is mostly boring but this was great on a trip that encountered thunderstorms. In the summer I also use it to see how hot it's going to be on my route, I can also run it on my iPad.
  • Car Scanner - This app was recently updated for CarPlay, displays information from my OBD dongle on the CarPlay screen.
  • Longplay - If your iPhone has music on it, Longplay will organize it into albums for you and allows you to choose what you want to listen to from a matrix of album covers. Sometimes I use this instead of Apple Music.
  • Audible - If you're an Audible subscriber, you can play audio books via CarPlay.
  • Google Maps & Waze - I rarely use them, but they are available for CarPlay and I have them installed. Recently Google Maps came in handy because it knew about a brand new Tesla magic dock supercharger station, Apple Maps didn't know about it yet. In my opinion, Google Maps doesn't integrate with CarPlay as well as Apple Maps, and it currently doesn't work with the HUD or steering wheel display.
  • Weatherology - Another weather app. Unique trick is that it will speak aloud the current forecast in your area, sometimes handy when driving.
  • PlugShare - I use the PlugShare app and web site heavily when route planning. It's supposed to support CarPlay, but the last time I tried to use it in the car it crashed. Oh well, hopefully they'll fix that soon.
  • Electrify America - This app works pretty well to check the status of nearby EA stations. You can also use this to start and monitor a charge session, but that doesn't always work for me (when it didn't I just disconnected the phone from the car and used the phone app).
  • ChargePoint, Chargeway, FLO - I haven't used these in the car, but they are installed on my phone and they show up in CarPlay. So they may come in handy some day.

I'd love to add more to this list - anyone else have any suggestions?

Edit: I started a new thread for this discussion:

I previously mentioned my facial recognition stopped working after the update. As others have mentioned, I disconnected the battery. Once reconnected facial recognition worked again. You will need to lift part of the trim in the frunk to access the 12V battery. I only removed the negative terminal. A simple reset of the head unit did not work.

Thanks, I figured out my issue. I was downloading on a computer that has blocked data transfer to USB via security policy, so I was transferring the downloaded directories to my NAS then copying down to another machine that I could copy to USB. That does not work...it seems the Updater software puts some additional files on the USB drive to make it recognizable as an update. I downloaded on a machine where I could put it directly on the drive and it was recognized in the car as an update.
Did you find the wireless carplay version to download? I downloaded what the NavUpdateInstaller said was the latest version, but my car said it was the same as what is already installed.

OTA only right now.

If it makes our Canadian friends on this forum feel any better, we're still waiting here in Northern Virginia for the OTA update. I suspect -- without any actual knowledge -- that Genesis may have paused the update due to bugs (e.g. users have been complaining about problems with phone calls with the new system update). So no wireless CarPlay yet for us. :(

I suppose it hasn't been cold enough yet to warrant preconditioning in general, but for those who have received the wireless CP/AA update, if you've had the experience, when you set a DC fast charger as a destination in CP/AA, will the car precondition the battery as is does in the native navigation system?
