  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

well... I have decided for the Sonata. I'm young enough I can tolerate hard seats(i hope)

with my discount the Genesis was $800 more but they didn't have the white with saddle i wanted... oh well, next year i'll get the facelifted Genesis 5.0 with 8speed awd :)

thanks all!
A facelifted Genesis with 5.0 and AWD? Is this official?

Source?

I'm srs.

I've test driven the 2011 Sonata SE and the 2011 Genesis V6 Loaded..

It's a very tough call for me. The Genesis, is a lot smoother, more comfortable, more luxurious, and higher quality. On the other hand, the Sonata felt more spritely, handled a bit better, but had a pretty rough ride, and I didn't like the low seating all that much. The interior design is very nice, but the materials seem kinda cheap. The Genesis felt floaty (in a good way), but I didn't feel totally confident in fast lane changing or hard corners.

So, if I could find some kind of magical car that could find that balance in both, I'm guessing it would be the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T. That's probably my pick. ;) That is, assuming that the Sonata 2.0T is just as smooth as the Genesis, handles better than the Genesis, but isn't as rough as the SE, but has slightly more luxurious trim at $28k.

The White w/ saddle is one of my favorite color combinations of the vehicle.

I can't believe they don't offer the saddle interior for the blue exterior. I think the Genesis looks gorgeous in Ble.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Sonata 2.0T is a great car, nice interior, but I heard bad things about Kia Optima's Seats, I guess Sonata's seats are similar. I have had no issues with 2011 Sonata seats - found them pretty comfortable..
Hopefully 2012 Genesis will update the interior (we know engine get DI and bored out to 5.0) and 8 speed auto.
Is microsoft sync clone coming to Hyundai or only to Kia?

Sonata+Genesis seats I would've been good. oh also a RWD heh but for now FWD will do.

no idea on the 5.0 8spd awd speculation but i'll get it when the time comes :)

Ugh! Can someone please show me a link to some kind of info about the 2012 Genesis?

I hope it'll be worth the wait!

My wife saw the new Sonata on the road as soon as it hit earlier this year. We both admired the styling and thought it was very sharp. However then I drove one. If you are looking for a small sport tuned sedan then it may be an option. The ride was very tight. The doors were thin and light (almost cheap feeling) and there was a lot of road noise. The interior is very confining due to a wrap around design. I kept saying to myself during the test drive of the Sonata, the looks did not match the feel of the vehicle.

I was looking for a more luxury ride. I drove the Buick LaCrosse, Toyota Avalon, Chrysler 300, Lexus ES 350 and both the 3.8 and 4.6L Genisis sedan. I decided on the Genesis and could not be happier. Not only do I have experiences as I did in Orlando this weekend with a gentleman almost rotating his neck clear off looking at the vehicle, but the ride and feel are great.

It depends on the ride you are looking for. Sonata vs Genesis.... Not even in the same league, not better or worse just different. My wife said if we were 10 years younger without kids we may have gone with the Sonata, but i think if I had the means then as I do now I still would have chosen the Genesis.

4.6L Titanium with Tech pkg :)

Sonata is a mass-market FWD platform. Genesis is a luxury, RWD platform- much attention put into build quality, (welds, adhesive, sound dampening, etc.) All depends on the need of the consumer. Sonata is $20-28K Genesis is $33-$42.
Yeah, the Sonata is more like $19k-$32k and the Genesis is $33k-$43k.

Comparing the two is a little bit silly to me, but I can definitely see a crossover in appeal. I can verify this myself as I've test driven both cars to compare.

I think it is confusing to compare FWD with RWD vehicles, if one really cares about ride, handling, drivablilty and stability (and of course traction on snow and ice). The feel and handling of the two types is very different. Just my humble opinion (I don't like FWD, BTW).

I think the Sonata is a nicer looking car. But I would never buy one. I drove one and the seats did not suit me, nor did the handling. We are all different and that is why there are so many choices. I could get used to a noiser Sonata, but not to the FWD handling and the seats. Just me.

Sounds like he already made up his mind but for a $500 difference it would have been a no brainer for the Genesis. Seems a much better value and is really in a different class altogether. But to each his own.
