  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

I've got a new one, I don't think has been mentioned:

My wife can't sit in the passenger seat long, as she feels it's not padded enough.

I had to buy an $11 car seat cushion from Walmart for her to tolerate longer rides, as even one hour is unbearable for her. her tail bone will hurt til she asks me to stop to walk around.

I do think the passenger side seat should have manual or electric elevation as well, but that aspect has been mentioned. Allowing a change in angle would improve the pressure points, and allow variation.

Oh, my mother in law, and the wife of a friend I gave a ride to, (no comments, this as all legit) have agreed with my wife; the seat is hard.

Apparently women with no integrated padding don't like the seat.

I totally agree about the seat being too firm. I'm female with not much padding. Maybe I should try the walmart pad. I have 2011 V6 with tech for 2 months/2000 miles.

what would be your biggest complaint about your Genesis?

My biggest complaint would be with the OEM tires. The Dun-for-a-lap model Hyundai choose for the Genesis is absolutely horrible. Low tread life and the traction on anything other than a dry road is after about 10k miles is the norm and should not be.

Another complaint (to some members) would be the service department at the Hyundai dealership. There should be a standard level of service to compliment the level the Genesis aims at.

I've got a slight pet peeve that no one's mentioned...the footrest for the driver's left foot is too small for me (I wear a size 12 shoe). The floor curves up around the top and left side of the footrest, which must've been sized for people with tiny feet. I find it cramped, and I either keep my leg bent, with just the ball of the foot touching the footrest; or move the seat back further, stretching my leg out and placing my foot to the right of the pad (closer to the brake pedal). Either way gets uncomfortable/awkward during longer drives. My previous car, an Infiniti, had plenty of footroom.

Do many people agree with this? I'm 5-11, 165 and I test drove one and sat in another and thought the seat was cloudlike. Perhaps it's just relative to the firm sport seats in my 330i.

Coming from an Acura TL I found the seat cut into back of my thigh which is where Acura has extra padding. Loved the Genesis but contemplating if theres a way to get used to that lack of padding. I'm 5'8 so the Genesis should be a good fit for me. Woul dgo back to test drive again but that's when the sales people get all lit up...when a person comes back a second time.

Funny, I am coming from the TL as wall and found the seat very comfortable even on an extended test drive.

I wish there would be a separate adjustment for day vs night brightness for the CRT display. Here in bright, sunny Texas, I have to keep the day brightness way up. At night, it practically blinds me, especially when I pass a large park which I do almost every day. The bright green park lights up the whole interior.

I think a wheel would be a better control than doing it through the DIS. That way, it would be easy to adjust to ambient light.

The rush to digitize everything in cars isn't all good news. For instance, I think voice control of temperature in some cars is a loser. Mine never is adjusted more than about 2 degrees. It is a whole lot easier and more straightforward to just push a button once or twice than to push a button, notice what the old temperature was, remember the proper command, and give the voice command.

I've test driven the V6 Genesis twice. It has all the comfort, looks, and amenities that I could ever want (aside from the lack of panoramic roof and hard drive space for storing music--I can deal without fold-down seats).

The car isn't quite as sporty as I would prefer however. I'm probably one of the younger members here, so I'm willing to sacrifice a little comfort for some added roadholding. A few grand on a performance spring kit should do the trick though.

I put a lower spring kit on my 2007 Ford Fusion and it has improved handling significantly.

If I go for the Genesis, I'd definitely get it dropped a little...

This is really nit-picking, but the Genny's sun visor is a flimsy piece of crap that only covers about 2/3 of the side window. A slide-out extension piece would be a great improvement.

I'd also like to second the complaint about the lack of a dimmer for the main display. It's too bright at night.

You do know that if you actually tug on the sun visor it slides on the shaft already. Mine covers the window quite nicely once you do that.

No, I did not know that. Just went out to the garage to verify. You are my hero! Thanks!

My biggest complaint is the steering. Anyone else feel like you're fighting the front tires when you're doing 70mph on a big sweeping curve? Try this, get on a big sweeping curve doing 70mph and momentarily let go of the steering wheel. It snaps back to center immediately.

In comparison, my other car is a 2005 BMW 545i without Sport Suspension, and the steering on that car is absolutely perfect. As a matter of fact, that's why I bought the Bimmer. On the flip side, it's in the shop constantly and has had $11,000 in repairs (thank goodness for an extended warranty) since we've owned it (3yrs).

Will this aspect of the Genny change if I change the OEM tires?

The steering of the Genesis is one of the reasons that I like it! - Nice and Tight!

I wish 2009 had daytime running lights.I leave lights on all the time to compensate.

I have four complaints. 1 dunlop tire, 2 dunlop tire, 3 dunlop tire, 4 dunlop tire. Thats all.

Oh really? I'm so glad Genesis doesn't have the daytime running lights. I hated that feature on my accord and is250.

There's way to fix the POS Dunlop's...get a set of Michelin Primacy's. They make the ride very supple and help kill the tire noise. Tire Rack has a $70 rabate on them now. I had the dealer put a set on before I ever drove it off the lot.
