If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Reported Issues with the Genesis GV60

You are focused on peak draw in an ICE but all automotive lead acid batteries are designed for peak draw. They are not designed for the increased and nearly constant draw from the electronics in systems in EVs that are almost never off. A lead acid battery in an ICE earns its living starting your car and then the alternator is running the show. They were never designed for EVs.
Yes. I will concede this point. The type of work being done by the battery in an EV is fundamentally different than in an ICE.
This should be easily overcome by a regular top-up from the high voltage battery. The fact that this doesn’t happen is the real shortcoming, IMO. There is no reason for the batteries to be drained.

So, apparently I’ve blown the control unit (ICCU), one week delivery time. 😝

Sorry to hear this! If it is any consolation, my right turn signal shorted 24 hours after taking delivery and it was back ordered for 2 months.

How many miles do you have on your 2023 GV60? Assuming they put you in a loaner?

What to do, at least it’s under warranty. I’m at 52,000km (32,000mi), apparently the part is on route but with our postal strike, it has been slowing other deliveries too.

I noticed the same thing too - I'm only at ~1500 miles, but dealership told me that others have reported the same thing with GV60 and G80 electric. They think its due to the heater having a plastic tube and it needs to be "broken-in" too. They said they will double check the issue for me when they come pick it up on the 19th for some alignment/HDA issues though.

So, turning on the heat for the first time since owning my 2023 GV60P and I have this burning smell. Pretty strong when the heater comes on. Has anyone else experienced this and/or ever gotten an explanation from Genesis service?

I have service scheduled on the 27th and I'l update if nobody else has any info.

The PTC (resistance) heater can consume lots of kW until the heatpump catches up. Maybe, just maybe, you’re experiencing months of dust being burned off. If so, it will go away. Hopefully, it’s not something wrong, but let us know what the dealer says.

I was thinking about that. The other theory I had is that the filter needs to be changed. I like your theory better, and I will update after I hear from service.

You're the second person to mention this in the last couple of days.

For what it's worth, I started using the heater recently and there's been no smell at all. It does heat the car up very quickly.

We had the smell for about a week of running heater. It is the dust and newness burning off the heating coils. It will go away.

I've had the burning smell too, though not necessarily when I turn the heat on (and it only lasts about a minute-how about for you?). It's happened when I start the car-I'm trying to determine if it happens after charging solely (I haven't been driving much lately and thus not charging much). I called my dealer and they couldn't get me in until mid January. The dealer noted I should look at the 12 volt battery (haven't had the chance yet)

Would love to hear what service tells you after your appointment.

So far, it is only when I start the heater and it lasts for a few minutes. It's hard to tell if the smell is actually dissipating or my olfactory neurons are just habituating to the smell, which is expected. I did a DC fast charge session today and left without turning the heater on and do not recall smelling anything so in my case at least, I think it is tied the use of the heater. Temperatures have been in the high 30's low 40's so my guess is it is kicking on the resistive heating element.

Will definitely update with whatever info I get from my service appointment at the end of next week.

Was in the shop today. Told me they couldn't replicate the smell but that they "fixed" it by spraying some freshener into the air filter. Not sure if it made a difference other than when running the heater I smell an air freshener smell.

If it helps, I get the same smell when it’s initially warming up the vehicle and it goes away over time. It smells like every other space heater or residential resistive heater does when it first kicks on, so I have to assume it’s that.

I’m also assuming that the heating system runs resistive heat initially for immediate comfort and then switches over to heat pump to maintain the temperature.

This does help. Thanks. I've never had this behavior in any other vehicle so I find it somewhat puzzling, and I've owned quite a few ICE and EV vehicles. My better half has a Ford Hybrid and we have never smelled a burning smell with the resistive heater in 7 years of ownership.

How long have you had your GV60 for if you don't mind me asking?

I've had it for over a year and I only notice it on the coldest of mornings. This is my first EV, but the smell is identical to what I recall space heaters or electric home heat smelling like.

Thanks for the additional info. That is exactly the smell I'm smelling; the space heater coming on for the first time smell. I'm just surprised that a month in I'm still smelling it each time I turn the heater on.

Here is a confirmed issue with the 2025 GV60 and has now happened to us twice in the last two months, with less than 2k on the odo, and a vehicle that came off the delivery truck only a couple days before we bought it. The "12V battery drain after charge".

1. Plug car into home L2 charger under scheduled charging, set to begin at an appointed time per vehicle and app settings to take advantage of off-peak electric rates

2. Vehicle charges to set charging state - for us, 90% for AC charging.

3. Next morning - vehicle is dead. 12V AGM battery is completely flat. Requires a jump.

4. No DTCs, no status in the app, nothing - everything is clean and green, no issues reported.

5. After jumping vehicle, vehicle indicates 92% SoC, rather than app-limited 90% SoC.

The dealer tried to blame it on us ("maybe you didn't shut it off," "you have to lock the doors when charging"). This is the second time this issue has occurred, and after trying to condition the battery, my battery conditioner tells me "bad bat" and it won't charge past 6V. Others have reported a similar issue.

Service appointment imminent.

Two things to keep in mind:
1) We don’t yet know what the aerodynamics of the GV60 will mean for potential snow accumulation. We’ve seen that the Ioniq seems quite bad, and the EV6 seems a fair bit better. It isn’t clear how necessary one is for the GV60.
2) Market-specific changes are made for vehicles all the time. It would not be unreasonable to expect a rear wiper for North American vehicles.

One is necessary for my GV60. Been snowing a lot here lately,

I think the 90% vs. 92% indication may be "normal" and caused by a slight variation in temperature, battery voltage, etc, when the system gets reset. I wouldn't necessarily worry about this.

But the dead12V is obviously NOT normal. Let us know what your service appt says.

I thought we might start a thread one various issues that might be a concern on the GV60.
The two initial issues have to do with the Ioniq 5 but since they are both based on the same e-GMP platform we might expect them to plague the GV60 as well.

1. charging: a couple of youtube reviews have noted that the Ioniq does not have pre conditioning of the battery. As a result, cold weather charging never exceeded 50-60 kw. It took 18 minutes to go from 20 to 40% at a two Electrify America stations.
The review also alluded to multiple complaints of the same slow charing in Europe.
This is likely fixable by an OTA update but that would be a sad start if the Genesis has similar slow charging, particularly when their major claim is the speed of charging.

2. another review discussed how bad the visibility out the back window without a wiper was in snowy weather.
The wiper is a big issue if you live where it snows which I do not, but as fancy as this car is with all the whistles and bells you would think that they would have had a rearview mirror camera.
