  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Guys, I just took possession of a 2011 4.6 Genesis. I've noticed several post about a rear window shade. I don't seem to have one. Are these standard or an option? I do have the tech package.

You have one, it is controled by the button on drivers door just to the front of the memory setting buttons for the seat etc. see section 4 page 109 of your manual

I really feel stupid. I just found out that I do have a window shade and how to work it.
That's the difference in owning a BMW versus a Hyundai. With a BMW. the sales force makes sure they show you everything about the car before you drive away. A Hyundai salesman..... not so much.

They're supposed to show you the car's features before you leave, and I suspect that some do. But many don't, probably because it's not in the culture promoted by the dealership and because they don't know much about the car to begin with.

It does happen. My salesman sat in the car with me and went over just about every feature. It seemed overboard at the time but in hindsight I'm glad he did. The only "little" thing I learned after the fact (thanks to this forum!) is that the sun visor slides back and forth.

Agree with this 100%. After already spending way too much time at the dealership making and finalizing a deal, who wants to spend any more time listening to a underinformed salesperson stumble through a demo.

I decided against the dealer demo. I was already there past closing, so getting home was the priority. I have learned quite a bit by trial and error, and being a member of this board!!!.

Not to sound like a turd - but didn't you want to know what that button did anyway? I mean, it wasn't red that said "don't push".

Seriously.....

As my brother-in-law always says, "When all else fails, read the owners manual". <grin>

(He also says, "Trust Me")

(He also says [when driving into a parking lot] "Go to where you want to park, and a spot will always open up for you" and yes, it often works).

I have a smart brother-in-law.

That works for me everytime, since I park as far away from everyone as I can. These newer cars w/o bodyside moulding are sitting ducks for door dings.

I was the same. I told the dealer that I knew how to read the owner's manual...which I did when I got home...and which I do first whenever there is a question. If I can't find it, then I come to this great forum, which has a wealth of expertise, tricks, and un-written gouge to tap into.

I totally understand your response to me. But, they installed the tint on my car the day I drove it home with the instructions not to lower the windows for three days. Not knowing what the button was going to do, and having not yet had time to read the manual, I didn't chance just pressing the button. I also had kind of forgotten about the button until last night.

Don't beat up on yourself over this it happens to the best of us. Now let me give you a tip. Open up your sun roof and look at the wind screen and make sure the blue protective tape has been removed, check the top of your DIS knob and make sure the clear protective tape has been removed from it,you may need to rub your fingers over it to feel for the tape if your eye sight is good you will be able to look at the outer edge of the knob and see the tape edge. If you see a line on both sides of your rear glass it's marks from your window shade and not a leak. They can be cleaned off but will show up every time you use the window shade. Hyundai may have corrected this on the 2011. The floor panel in the trunk if you lift it up, on the back of the panel at the point where the tag to lift the panel is, is a hook that you put on the lip of the back of the trunk rim to hold the panel up while you are removing the spare tire or working with the battery. You can get your wipers off the windshield by turning the car power on and off, then push the wiper stalk up and pull it towards you,the wipers will move to the 11: o'clock position you can now pull them away from the windshield. Enjoy your car for the money you will not find a better equipped car.

Thanks for the tips. I've been finding protective tape in different locations pretty much every day I've had the car.

These are the kind of great tips you'll get on this forum that aren't in the owner's manual ;)

The rear shade is included on every Genesis except those sold in Oklahoma. Huyndai management figured it might be too complicated to those living in the mid-west-- Sorry-
